Ascension Online: My Beasts Evolve infinitely

Chapter 58: Epic Item the Banner of Conquest

The announcement rolled across the sky, and the entire server looked up as one.

Chaos followed almost immediately shock first, then a wave of excitement that swept through every corner of the game at once.

"The Ascendant Concord. First guild on the whole server. What a name to launch with."

"Unrivaled again. Of course it’s him. Who else would it be at this point."

"Every other achievement tonight was already ridiculous, and now he’s got the first-ever guild registration too? As a solo player?"

"Every established club and guild organization on the server just got completely skipped over. I’d be furious."

"You’d expect the first guild’s talent to be strong, but this is on another level entirely."

"A flat ten percent to every stat, for every member? That’s not a buff, that’s a cheat code."

"With scaling like that on offer, half the top-tier free agents on the server are going to be begging to get in."

"Give it a season and that guild’s not just competing for the top spot it’s going to be the top spot."

"Wherever recruitment opens, sign me up first! WolfPupGaming, reporting for duty!"

While the general population lost their minds over it, the reaction across every wilderness leveling ground told a very different story.

Guild leaders and club owners up and down the server all looked skyward at the same announcement, and what crossed their faces wasn’t excitement.

It was something closer to dread the particular, sinking kind that came from watching a game you thought you understood the rules of quietly change them without asking.

Because everything Kael had already claimed tonight every server-first, every record paled next to this one.

Even the biggest publishers on the market only maintained a roster of a few thousand truly elite players at any given time.

Real dominance in a game like this had always run through one channel: found a guild, pull in every strong individual player still unaffiliated, and grow from there.

The pool of top-tier talent was finite. Whoever moved first got first pick of it, and everyone left standing after that fought over the scraps.

With the reality merge now confirmed, every serious organization on the server had already started treating Ascension as the single biggest opportunity of their careers worth any price, worth any resource thrown at it, all in pursuit of exactly the kind of founding token that would let them stake their claim first.

Nobody had guessed the token would come from a boss that high. And by the time any of them worked that out, Kael had already claimed it and walked away with the whole thing locked up.

The regret across the server was immediate and total, and underneath it sat something heavier real concern.

Kael’s individual strength already put him in a class of his own, untouchable next to anyone else on the leaderboard.

If he ever decided to actually recruit, actually build something with the talent that name alone would pull in, the guild that resulted wouldn’t just compete for dominance.

It would simply be dominant, and there wouldn’t be much anyone could do about it.

In a quiet clearing carpeted with drifting leaves, Alexis drove her longsword clean through a butterfly-winged monster, the announcement still echoing overhead.

Her expression tightened, some complicated mix of admiration and frustration crossing her face at once.

"No wonder he turned me down," she murmured. "He was never going to join anyone else’s banner. He was always building his own."

Frostbloom stood beside her, arms crossed, watching her friend’s expression with open amusement.

"So he won’t work for you," she said, tilting her head thoughtfully. "Doesn’t mean you can’t still get him."

Alexis blinked. "...What?"

It took a full three seconds for the implication to land. When it did, her whole face went scarlet.

She reached over and pinched Frostbloom hard on the arm. "What is wrong with you? If you like him so much, go fight him yourself!"

"Please. My heart already belongs to Silversong." Frostbloom struck a mock-dramatic pose, entirely unbothered by the pinch.

"Now if he turned out to be Silversong, that’d be a different story. I’d throw hands for that."

She grinned, leaning in with an exaggerated whisper. "You’ve still got that little device that lets you see past masks, don’t you? We could always go find him in person. Confirm a few things. Maybe he’s secretly gorgeous under there."

"Even if he’s the single most attractive man alive, it changes nothing." Alexis planted both hands on her hips, chin up, entirely unconvincing in her own indignation.

"I’d rather watch my whole studio go bankrupt and throw myself off a cliff than trade my dignity for Unrivaled’s attention."

Back in Frostwatch, Kael stepped out of the guild registrar’s office and let a flicker of light bloom over his palm.

A blood-red banner unfurled from it, fabric snapping in a wind that wasn’t actually there the epic-grade reward the system had handed him not twenty minutes ago.

[BANNER OF CONQUEST]

Rarity: Epic

Effect: Plant the banner to establish a 1,000-meter Bloodrage Domain.

Every guild member inside enters a frenzied state +20% attack and spell power, +10% attack speed, -10% skill cooldowns, and 5% omnivampiric lifesteal.

Kael turned it over once, genuinely impressed. Living up to its rarity in every sense a buff like this, blanketing an entire kilometer radius, was the kind of thing that decided guild wars outright.

Boss raids, sieges, open warfare between organizations there wasn’t a context where this banner wouldn’t tilt the outcome hard in whoever planted it.

He’d founded this guild purely for the headquarters that came bundled with it, though, and had no intention of ever opening recruitment.

Which meant the Banner of Conquest, for all its raw power, would sit permanently unused in his inventory.

For anyone actually planning to build something a club with real ambitions, a guild trying to punch above its current weight this exact item would be worth more than almost anything else on the market right now.

More tempting than top-tier gear. More valuable than most Legendary drops.

Somebody out there is going to pay an absolute fortune for this.

Satisfied, he tucked the banner away and, against every expectation the rest of the server was currently forming about him, made no announcement, opened no recruitment thread, said nothing at all.

Instead he walked straight for the nearest general store to restock before heading back out to grind.

He’d barely covered a few steps before something made him pause. A faint prickle at the back of his neck the unmistakable sense of being watched.

He stopped, turned, and looked back the way he’d come.

The moment the figure trailing him came into focus, something flickered behind his eyes recognition, sharp and immediate, and more than a little surprise.

Before he could get a word out, the figure grinned and beat him to it.

"So. Who’s hungry?"

Whatever answer Kael had been expecting from a stalker trailing him through the streets of Frostwatch, it hadn’t been that.

He almost laughed despite himself the tension of the last several hours cracking, just slightly, at the sheer absurdity of it.
