Chapter 104: SS-Rank Skill: Soulreap

The echo of the world announcement was still rolling across the sky when the token finished its slow descent and came to rest in the air directly in front of Kael.

It was a palm-sized pendant, carved from a single piece of deep blue-green stone that looked like oxidized copper under moonlight.

On the reverse, a sweeping scene had been cut in fine, deliberate detail: robed figures climbing a staircase of cloud, their cloaks trailing behind them through the mist.

On the front, two bold, flowing lines of script were worked into layered patterns of ornamental scrollwork, and the system translated them as simply as it could.

Touch the Sky.

Light pulsed softly off its surface as it hung there, waiting, patient as a held breath.

[THE EMPYREAN SIGIL]

Item Rarity: Mythic

An ancient relic, passed down across untold ages. Once the bearer reaches Level 50, this sigil opens a passage to the mythic realm known as the Empyrean.

The Empyrean Sigil. The Empyrean.

Kael turned the token over in his palm, weighing both names carefully. The stone was cool against his skin, and heavier than it had any right to be.

Neither name carried any weight from the life he’d already lived. It was completely unfamiliar ground.

Still, he understood exactly what tier of value a confirmed Mythic item and a confirmed Mythic-rank realm represented, even with no memory to lean on.

"So the Spire was never the destination." Understanding settled in piece by piece. "Just the gate standing in front of the real one."

Curiosity sharpened fast.

The Astral Spire alone had been brutal enough to earn its reputation as something close to hell dressed up as a challenge map.

In his first life, across billions of players worldwide, not one person had ever confirmed clearing it in full.

Not even two and a half years deep into the merged reality had anyone done it. This time around, with every advantage his second life had handed him, it had still nearly broken him on the final floor.

Whatever waited behind a door that demanding had no business being ordinary.

*Endless opportunity, somewhere past that gate. It has to be.*

"Shame about the level requirement." A faint, rueful smile touched his mouth. "Fifty’s still a stretch from here. Looks like the next push doubles down."

He was still turning the sigil over when a second chime rang out, clean and immediate.

[Notification: Astral Spire cleared in 3 hours, 51 minutes. Mythic Treasure Chest ×1 awarded.]

A crystalline chest descended from the light overhead. It was carved from flawless, seven-hued crystal and glowed softly from within, the colors sliding over one another like oil on water.

The Empyrean Sigil had been his reward for the achievement itself, for clearing the tower outright. This chest was something separate, built from every kill, every floor, and every scrap of progress he’d gathered on the climb.

"A genuine Mythic chest."Anticipation lit behind his eyes.

He left it sealed for now. Good instinct said the biggest prize deserved to be opened last, and he had never once broken that habit when it actually mattered.

A final flare of teleportation light swept over him and his companions, and the Astral Spire dissolved around them.

The group was deposited back inside the familiar, dim quiet of the cave they’d entered from, where the air smelled of damp stone and old smoke, and the only sound was water dripping somewhere in the dark.

Rather than rush for the chest, Kael turned his attention first to the newest member of his roster.

[HOLLOW EMISSARY]

Bloodline Tier: Epic

Level: 55

Constitution ★★★★★★★★★★

Strength ★★★★★★★★★★★★

Agility ★★★★★★★★★★★★

Spirit ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

Skills: Shroudstep (B), Hollowleap (B), Hollowform (A), Hollowrend Slash (A), Spectral Shackles (A), Soulwind Gale (A), The Wailing Host (S), Soulreap (SS)

A grim messenger of the Hollow, walking the boundary between realms, carrying a scythe honed on the souls it has already claimed.

Rumor holds it may yet evolve into something far worse: a true Reaper, master over life and death both.

Forty-eight stars total, on a companion sitting at genuine Epic tier.

Set that number beside anything else in his roster, and plenty of Beastlords across the server would have sold their souls to trade places with him.

The skill spread matched the stat sheet in every way that mattered. Stealth, mobility, lockdown, area denial, all stacked into one cohesive kit. 𝐟𝑟ⅇ

It read exactly like what it was: a top-shelf assassin, the kind of presence that made people hesitate before saying its name aloud.

One skill in particular held Kael’s attention longer than the rest.

[SOULREAP]

Skill Grade: SS ℯℓ.

Effect: A scythe strike aimed directly at the target’s soul, dealing 240% magic damage.

If the kill lands, the victim’s soul is drawn into the blade and bound there permanently.

Every 10,000 harvested souls grants a permanent +0.1% to all attributes.

Mana Cost: 500 | Cooldown: 30 seconds**

It was a rare breed of skill. It came from the same design family as the Void Colossus’s own Endless Hunger, trading raw immediate power for a slow, compounding climb that never technically stopped.

Endless Hunger built purely toward maximum health. Soulreap spread its gains across every stat at once, a broader and more balanced version of the same principle.

Slow, by any honest measure. A fraction of a percent per ten thousand kills wasn’t going to move the needle overnight.

But given enough time, slow growth with no visible ceiling had a way of becoming the opposite of slow.

Kael closed the panel, fully satisfied. However the rest of this companion developed, it had already more than earned its place at his side.

Behind him, the Emissary hovered a few feet off the cave floor, utterly still, its ash-gray cloak stirring in a wind that wasn’t there.

The skull pendant at its chest caught the light and held it. Two points of cold, blood-red fire waited beneath the hood, fixed on its new master with a patience that felt almost unsettling.

Kael met that gaze for a moment, then turned away.He drew a slow breath and finally pulled the Mythic chest free from storage.

It hung in the air in front of him, flawless and bright, light pulsing through it in a steady, hypnotic rhythm, the whole thing radiating a weight that felt out of proportion to its size.

His hands flexed once. Anticipation was plain across his face.

Kael reached out and, slowly, began to open it.
