Ascension of the last Celestial
Chapter 100: The Vampire and the Elf
The second the fight started, the vampire girl dashed forward and closed the distance between her and Seraphine.
She was fast, faster than a B+ should normally be.
In less than a second, she was already on her, aiming for Seraphine’s head with her sharp nails.
Just because this was an unarmed sparring didn’t mean people couldn’t use the racial advantages they had, and one of the advantages the vampire had was their incredibly sharp and durable nails.
If they were to hit, they could tear right through Seraphine’s skin without any resistance. And Seraphine knew that, so she moved her head out of the way, barely evading the razor like nails.
The wind generated by the swipe cut through the air, carrying a faint scent of iron.
But the vampire didn’t let up and began to assault Seraphine with a barrage of claw strikes. Most of which she was able to dodge, but some managed to hit her, causing lines of blood to run down the combat suit.
’I have to find an opening.’
Dodging another nail to the head, Seraphine moved her body into the vampire’s guard and aimed for her side with a right hook.
Even though Seraphine was a mage mostly, her strength was still at B+, and a hit from her would hurt a lot if it were to connect.
The vampire twisted her back to evade the hook and balanced herself on her hands. She didn’t immediately go back on her feet, but instead twisted on her hands and delivered multiple strong kicks to Seraphine.
Bringing her arms up to defend against the kicks, Seraphine felt every contact rattle her bones; the sheer physical power hidden inside the white haired vampire was something more akin to an A rank fighter.
And it was more than just her racial abilities shining through; there was real combat experience from fights against death, something Seraphine was still lacking.
She was trained and was incredibly talented, but she had never fought someone to the death. So her fighting style was shaped by formal training and stat reliance, which was outclassed by the experience the vampire brought out.
The vampire landed on her feet again and closed in on Seraphine once more, her sharp nails shining in the light.
Their fight turned into another play of the vampire trying to hit Seraphine with her sharp nails and Seraphine trying to evade as best as she could to find an opening.
Every breath burned in Seraphine’s chest as she was pushed back step by step across the stone arena.
But the situation didn’t look good for her, as she was thoroughly outclassed by her opponent.
Realizing that her chance of winning the duel was getting smaller by the second, she came up with a plan to risk everything to gain a chance to win. Because if this were to go on, there was no way she would win.
The vampire girl sent a kick to Seraphine’s head, which she ducked under to avoid the hit. While her opponent was still on one foot, she went low with a sweeping kick to throw her off the ground.
But the girl knew what Seraphine was trying to do and moved her heel downward to hit Seraphine like a guillotine. As the two kicks neared their target, one aimed for the other foot and the other for the other’s head, Seraphine stopped her sweeping kick halfway and rolled to the side.
When she rolled to the side, she kicked off the ground and, before the vampire’s foot could land on the ground, tackled her down.
Seraphine’s arms moved around her neck, and she clamped down on her and began to choke her.
Seraphine put everything she had into the chokehold to try and knock her opponent out, but the vampire didn’t just sit still and wait to be choked out; she began to punch Seraphine in the side as her vision became blurry.
Every hit felt like she was getting hit by a battering ram as the pain coursed through her body. But she didn’t let go and increased the strength behind the chokehold even more.
The girl could feel her head become dizzy and her eyes blurred; the strength in her limbs left her and her punches stopped.
"I give up."
With a light, barely audible voice, the girl admitted her defeat. But since they were so close, Seraphine could hear her clearly, and a feeling of relief went through her body.
She let go of the girl and sat up, breathing heavily. Her side hurt and the cuts on her body stung, but the feeling of beating someone in unarmed combat was exhilarating.
The vampire girl sat up as well; her hand moved to her throat and air filled her lungs again.
Seeing that the girl’s throat was clearly hurt, Seraphine inched closer and sat next to her. She channeled her life affinity and began to heal her. When the girl felt the life mana go through her body, she looked at Seraphine with a surprised face.
"What are you doing?"
"Healing you, obviously."
The girl looked at the still face of Seraphine with a frown.
"Shouldn’t you heal yourself first? I’m sure I hit you more than you hit me."
Seraphine’s eyes didn’t move away from the light in her hands as she didn’t stop healing her.
"I can heal myself later, and it doesn’t even hurt that much."
The girl stayed quiet after that and just let the warm feeling of the life mana heal her.
"I’m Lilith, by the way. Lilith Nightshade."
Seraphine was surprised by the sudden introduction, but a light smile was on her face.
"I’m Seraphine Luna Verdantia. Nice to meet you."
"Then thank you, Seraphine, for the healing. I think I’m all better now."
Lilith stood up from the ground and stretched her back.
"It was a good fight. I hope we can spar sometime again in the future."
Seraphine stood up as well and looked at Lilith with a smile.
"Yeah, I’d like that."
Lilith’s eyes widened as she looked at the beautiful smile on Seraphine’s face.
’God damn, her charm must be insanely high.’
Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of a loud explosion by their side. Both immediately turned to the side, and Seraphine’s high mana perception flared up as a large amount of pure mana was discharged where the explosion came from.
Seraphine’s mana sensitivity wasn’t just high because she was [Loved by Mana]; one of the racial abilities an elf had was that they had an increased sensitivity and a high agility.
Every race had something that made them unique and special in their own way, like the strength of a vampire, the sensitivity of an elf, or the large mana pool of a dragon, so a fight was never just about the core rank of someone, as their racial advantages could very well tip the scale in their favor.
But back to the explosion.
Seraphine and Lilith made their way through the small crowd of students that formed around an area.
Murmurs and gasps rippled through the gathering, but no one dared to step any closer.
When they reached the front, they saw a sight that left Seraphine confused.
Standing in the middle of the training grounds, surrounded by the crowd of students, was Valerian.
Beside him, Arthur stood to the side with a wry grin on his face. But his eyes, usually full of casual confidence, were locked onto Valerian with profound caution.
Yet it wasn’t just the sight of Valerian that left Seraphine confused; it was the person he was holding in his hand.
Standing tall, Valerian looked at the person he was holding by the neck with cold eyes.
In his hand was the neck of another male student, but it wasn’t the normal body of the student, as he was missing all his limbs and was bleeding heavily.
Blood poured on the ground and stained it in deep crimson. But Valerian didn’t budge or care as he tightened his grip on the boy.
"What the hell happend here?" Lilith whispered beside her, her crimson eyes trembling slightly as the pungent scent of fresh blood hit her vampire instincts.
Seraphine took a step forward, her voice stuck in her throat as she looked at Valerian. His expression was completely blank, devoid of any anger or panic, as if he wasn’t holding a mangled body, but a piece of worthless trash.
Before anyone could speak another word, the oppressive aura of an Ascendant washed over the entire hall.
The heavy air froze in an instant as Professor Lyanna stepped through the crowd, her silver hair shimmering under the arena lights and her gaze sharper than any blade.
