Chapter 380: Chapter 203: It Seems I’ve Come at the Wrong Time

"Cut the act. When are we moving against Luoyun Manor? What do you need from me?"

"Tomorrow!"

Chen Sheng’s playful expression vanished as he said in a low voice:

"Once the Array-Breaking Pearl from the State City arrives, that’s when we’ll make our move."

Sun Yuzhi nodded slightly and asked no further questions.

She had complete faith in Chen Sheng’s methods and capabilities.

Suddenly, Sun Yuzhi felt a warm hand take hers, gently kneading and toying with her fingers.

Glancing at Chen Sheng, Sun Yuzhi’s cheeks grew warm, but she didn’t pull her hand away. She simply asked softly:

"Right, you sent for me and specifically told me to conceal my presence. What for? Surely it wasn’t just to..."

"Of course, it’s for serious business."

Chen Sheng said with a straight face, but his hands didn’t stop moving:

"Those bald-headed bastards from Golden Spring Temple... if I’m not mistaken, there’s no way they’ll stay idle. They’ll try everything to get rid of me or to make a move on you. With you by my side, I can rest a bit easier.

"Those damn monks."

A cold glint appeared in Sun Yuzhi’s eyes.

"Sooner or later, I’ll wipe them out!"

"And who, pray tell, are you two planning to annihilate?"

A languid, charming voice tinged with a hint of teasing suddenly drifted into the hall.

Bai Qing glided in, her graceful figure clad in a flowing, water-blue gown that showed off her mature charms. With every glance, she exuded a captivating allure.

Seeing the two sitting shoulder to shoulder, holding hands intimately, Bai Qing’s red lips curled as she feigned surprise.

"It seems... I’ve come at an inopportune moment. Did I interrupt your little party?"

Sun Yuzhi’s expression didn’t change as she slowly withdrew her hand from Chen Sheng’s. Sitting up straight, she resumed her usual cold and imperious demeanor and let out a soft huff.

"What nonsense."

Chen Sheng, however, remained unfazed. He simply smiled and pointed to the empty seat on his other side.

"On the contrary, Sect Leader Bai, your timing is perfect. If you wouldn’t mind, I have a spot free here on my left."

"Tsk..."

Bai Qing threw Chen Sheng a look from her beautiful eyes, a hint of coquettish reproach in her gaze.

"My, aren’t we bold now that you’re the Governor. You even dare to flirt with me."

She then turned to the prim-and-proper Sun Yuzhi and said with a mischievous smile:

"Yuzhi, dear, if I were to actually go sit next to Governor Chen... you wouldn’t get jealous, would you?"

Sun Yuzhi scoffed and crossed her arms.

"Go right ahead. It’s not like he’s the one who’ll get the short end of the stick. It’d be a perfect opportunity for Chen Sheng to test your depths. The only question is... if you have the nerve."

"Hmph. That’s just because you’re here. If you weren’t, I wouldn’t need Governor Chen to test my depths—I’d be testing his length myself."

Though her words were defiant, Bai Qing didn’t actually go over. Instead, she swayed gracefully to a seat on the other side.

"Governor Chen, there’s been movement at Luoyun Manor. Lu Canghai took the bait, just as expected. He’s already sent his nephew, Lu Maozhi, to the Iron Sword Sect in secret to scout for information."

"Yes, I know."

Chen Sheng nodded, his expression calm.

Seeing his placid reaction, Bai Qing frowned slightly.

"You don’t seem surprised, Governor Chen. Was this... also part of your plan?"

Chen Sheng just smiled noncommittally and changed the subject.

"How are the preparations on your end, Sect Leader Bai?"

Seeing that he was avoiding the question, Bai Qing didn’t press him and answered:

"The Danxia Sect is ready, of course. It’s just... a matter like this should be handled sooner rather than later. The longer we drag it out, the more variables come into play. Especially regarding the Iron Sword Sect. That Lu Qingsong... I’ve never been able to fully trust him.

He agreed far too easily. It’s entirely possible he’ll go back on his word."

"I have my own arrangements for Lu Qingsong. He’s being watched."

Chen Sheng’s tone was firm, a cold light glinting in his eyes. "Tomorrow. That’s when we strike!"

"So soon? But didn’t you just..."

Bai Qing was stunned to hear this.

’If we’re striking tomorrow, then why go to the trouble of having Wangqingshan deceive Lu Canghai?’

’Could it be...?’

’The Danxia Sect, the Iron Sword Sect, the Ning’an Wang Clan... does Chen Sheng not trust any of them?’

"What do you think, Sect Leader Bai?"

Chen Sheng asked with a smile.

Looking at the smile on Chen Sheng’s face, Bai Qing felt a jolt of alarm, but she let none of it show, merely chuckling as she replied:

"I think that’s acceptable."
