Chapter 115: Chapter 13 - Peaceful Breakfast

I hadn’t even eaten half of my sandwich, but it had already been snatched by Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld. Her sudden appearance after her fight with the Head Maid was complete, and she was now enjoying my sandwich. The Head Maid also took a piece of my sandwich after quickly slicing it in half with her dirty hands.

My stomach had eaten a slice of meat this morning, but I was still hungry after serving my two troublesome Masters all morning. Carrying them to the bathroom, testing their skills with my throwing knives, and picking up those who got caught up in adult fights. It was tiring enough and deserved a peaceful breakfast.

But then, my breakfast was stolen by two adults who should have been able to sit patiently and let me make sandwiches for them.

The half-slice of sandwich with my bite mark certainly didn’t fill them up, so I took the initiative to make another sandwich in a large enough quantity using the ingredients stored in the breakfast trolley.

"What did you do to Liliana’s handmade food, Mell? I didn’t allow you to share it with me. Give Liliana’s handmade food back, or you’ll suffer the consequences."

"Huumm?? Uhh?? What are you talking about, Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld? I didn’t hear what you said at all."

Nyyooommm...

Nyyooommm...

With such a casual answer, the Head Maid didn’t take the Duchess’s threat seriously. She was busy munching on my sandwich and smiling happily.

The Duchess looked annoyed, but there was little she could do as the sandwich in the Head Maid’s hand sank into her throat. She swallowed it with a smile on her face, enjoying the salty and sweet sensations alternating in her mouth, rich with flavor.

"You have a great talent for cooking, Liliana. Are you sure you don’t want to add a role as a maid in the kitchen to your task list?" The Duchess’s question came out of nowhere, drawing the attention of the other maids who were still busy serving Master Reina and Master Amagi.

I busily arranged the breakfast ingredients on the trolley into ready-to-eat sandwiches, not forgetting to place them on three separate plates to be served to the Head Maid and Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld. I also matched the quantities, knowing they would find a way to fight over the remaining food on the plates.

"That’s a wasted offer, Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld. My cooking skills are not as good as the main chef in your kitchen. With my half-assed cooking skills, I am not worthy of serving as a kitchen maid," I replied as I piled the meat slices on top of the healthy vegetables.

The sandwich I made this time looked different from the previous ones. I deliberately cut the toast into smaller pieces, and the contents of the sandwich were pierced with a fork. The concept was a one-bite sandwich, and it happened to have a small fork used to eat small fruit.

Without any direct hand contact to keep the food sterile, I try to serve the sandwich in the most elegant way possible, like a luxury restaurant with a Michelin logo.

"Don’t think so lowly of yourself, Liliana. The fries and mashed potatoes you made on another day were so delicious. I’m dying to eat them again on every cold night and eating it slowly."

"Oh! Make sure not to make too much of it. I still have a lot of noble parties to attend after attending the Belfast Royal Family’s tea party."

The Duchess looked so excited when a plate of sandwich slices was almost ready, but I had to restrain myself from serving it and wait for the second plate to be filled. My hands were slow when making the sandwiches, because the toast and fried egg yolk had to be cut precisely.

I hate to admit it, but I have an obsession with perfection when it comes to cooking for others. I don’t want to serve anyone a bad meal, even if it’s just putting food an sandwich like this.

"Liliana can cook?" asked the Head Maid, looking surprised.

"Oh, you didn’t know, Mell?" the Duchess answer as she sat down in a chair after a maid pulled it out.

"I’ve heard some rumors from the night maids who happened to taste Liliana’s cooking. If I’m not mistaken... it’s thinly sliced salted fries and mashed potatoes mixed with vegetables, right?"

"Yes, the information was correct. It was indeed Liliana’s handmade food that night. I’m still waiting for Liliana’s other handmade food after she got permission to leave the Mansion to go shopping."

"A-Another of Liliana’s handmade food? Liliana! Make sure you make an extra portion for me... Next time!" requested the Head Maid, who was for some reason sitting next to the Duchess.

Frankly, they both looked strange after their physical fight. The Duchess’s casual dress was dirty and full of holes, and the Head Maid’s uniform was the same, full of slice holes. Their bodies looked battered, yet somehow they were sitting next to each other after the fight, like nothing happened.

They also seemed to be friendly with each other, even joking around without regard for their titles.

"I-I’ll make sure there’s a portion left for you, Head Maid," I replied as I moved my hands to make the last sandwich.

A sandwich which too large to hold with both hands...

In other words, a sandwich for myself...

As I made the sandwich with a fork and knife, several maids watched my hand movements to memorize the steps to make a sandwich.

How can I know this?

The answer is simple... because their eyes can’t take their eyes off the movement of my hands as I process the food ingredients to became a sandwich.

Toast cut into small pieces, vegetables on the first layer, followed by dried paper-thin chicken katsu slices, piled with delicious fried egg yolk, and topped with light vegetables before being sandwiched with more toast slices.

An easy-to-follow, do-and-practice tutorial to make their lunch.

And they watched my hands with such concentration that they forgot to blink.

The portions for Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld, the Head Maid, and myself were complete. It was time to serve breakfast and eat in peace.

Taaakkk...

Taaakkk...

Taakkkk...

I placed three plates of sandwiches on the table, making sure the Duchess and Head Maid didn’t get mixed up.

"Please eat slowly and don’t snatch other people’s food!"

"I’ve already used all the food ingredients in the food trolley until there are none left. If you feel like it’s still not enough... it would be better to go back into the mansion and order additional food from the maid on duty today!"

I said that with a small warning, "If you’re still hungry... ask for more food in the kitchen!"

Of course, I couldn’t say such bold words in front of the Duchess and Marchioness.

I didn’t want to be seen as an impolite maid who didn’t know the basic rules of a maid. Being rude to a noble would also result in punishment, so I restrained myself by using polite words.

Sttaarreeee...

Sttaarreeee...

Sttaarreeee...

Before I could even eat the sandwich I’d just made, several eyes turned toward me. Curious red eyes stared at the food on my plate, purplish pastel eyes stared at my large sandwich, and the curious gaze of the adult woman sitting next to me.

Being stared at like this, it didn’t feel very comfortable.

"Uhm, is there something wrong with my service, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg?" I asked while looking at her.

"There shouldn’t be any. I’m just curious about the taste of the food you made, Liliana."

"I-Is that so? W-Would you like to try it, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg?" I continued, wrapping my sandwich in a clean handkerchief before offering her a bite.

"I wasn’t particularly curious, but seeing them both savoring every bite made me curious, didn’t it?" Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg replied, pointing to the Head Maid and Duchess.

They both seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it. The delicious taste of my sandwich seemed to suit their tastes. It wasn’t too salty or bland. It was just the right blend of flavors that complemented each other’s needs.

The Duchess closed her eyes several times while chewing the sandwich in her mouth, not to mention the Head Maid, who nodded her head as if satisfied with my sandwich.

If a simple meal like this could make them happy, it seemed like cooking food from my previous life wasn’t so bad.

"Those two are enjoying too much..."

"It makes me feel a little embarrassed that my food... was considered too good for them," I said while feeling a hot sensation on my cheeks and pushing my sandwich to Marchioness.

Krrreessshhhh...

Kreeeesshhhh...

Without warning, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg took a bite of the sandwich in my hand. Her expression transformed into a gentle smile as she took one bite.

She chewing slowly and swallowing, then Marchioness patted my head gently.

Paatt...

Paatt...

Paatt...

"Now I understand why they seemed to be enjoying it so much, Liliana."

"Your handmade food is delicious."

Bluuuussshhh...

The heat in my cheeks quickly spread across my face. I averted my gaze to the side after hearing Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s praise.

The praise felt embarrassing and excessive, because all I was doing was piling up the prepared food ingredients for a light breakfast.

"T-That praise should go to the maids who are busy cooking in the kitchen..."

"W-Without their help... there wouldn’t be delicious toast, creamy fried egg yolks, thin, salty slices of meat, and light, mouth-watering vegetables."

"I-I was just stocking up on food... to make sandwich," I said, giving an excuse to cover up my embarrassment.

Without the mirror in front of me, the hot sensation on my cheeks was an embarrassing blush. I didn’t even dare look at the Marchioness beside me, too busy suppressing my embarrassment.

"Without seeing you prepare this delicious sandwich, I wouldn’t have known that simple food could be this delicious."

"Your fries and mashed potatoes are delicious too."

"I think you are indeed talented in cooking, Liliana."

I closed my eyes and ears, reluctant to hear the embarrassing praise...

They just want to taste my delicious cooking!
