Chapter 2007: It’s Protection, Not Punishment
Chapter 2007: It’s Protection, Not Punishment
Tang Shaoyang was worried a little about the unknown group. Especially when they wiped out a team, but it seemed like they were underestimating Clementine and Arion. He did not see them going all out to clear the threat.
They ended up with seventeen captives, one of whom was the leader of the operation. Arion took all the captives with him, saying he would get information from them. He did not say anything about how he would get the information from these people, but Clementine seemed to trust Arion’s interrogation ability.
The problem arose so quickly, and it was solved swiftly as well. Clementine resumed their special mission, but she asked them for two teams to move together this time. She did not want to lose another team.
That left Clementine and Tang Shaoyang in the main base, and another team that stayed in the main base. Tang Shaoyang was about to leave, but this team approached him and Clementine. He recognized the leader of the team, the demon, Jannis.
It was the man who said that he was a bastard from Clementine and Arion. He let out a chuckle when he remembered the accusation. He found it funny, especially when there was no similarity between him and Clementine and Arion.
Jannis had recovered from his injury, and the missing hand returned. A single regeneration potion should be enough to get his hand back. A Chief Administrator had more than enough to afford a superior regeneration potion. Losing a hand was not a big deal.
“See! It’s not easy for them to die, so you don’t need to hesitate to punish them if it’s necessary.”
Jannis and his friends flinched when they heard Clementine’s voice. Not just what she had done to Jannis, but also after the fight with the invaders just now. They had seen how crazy the woman was.
Tang Shaoyang gave them a glance, but he did not have any interest in having any kind of interaction with them.
“We are done here, right?” The question was for Clementine.
“I think so,” Clementine nodded, “Are you leaving?”
“I am behind schedule, so I need to do some catch-up.”
Tang Shaoyang was talking about summoning the spirits with the calamity bodies. His spirit had killed more calamities than he could count by now, and he needed to catch up with them.
“Catch up?” Clementine sounded confused for a moment until she realized what was different today with Tang Shaoyang. In most of Tang Shaoyang’s past battles, he would summon his spirits, but she did not see a single spirit here.
“You are truly underestimating them for not calling back your spirits, huh? Don’t underestimate them, Tang. These people who attacked us today are not the strongest cultivators out there. There are a lot that are stronger than them.”
Tang Shaoyang understood the reminder, but he shook his head, “I never underestimated them. I didn’t recall them because we have you and Arion here. I don’t think it’s necessary to delay clearing this world when you and Arion are here.”
Clementine raised her eyebrow as Tang Shaoyang’s words got her thinking for a moment. Then she grinned ear to ear, “You are right. Why would you worry when you have your senior here? You can leave then. Leave the interrogation and aftermath to Arion. He is one of the best, for that matter.”
“Alright, bye.”
Tang Shaoyang was about to switch places with one of his shadow spirits until a voice stopped him.
“Wait, Sir!”
He recognized the voice as he glanced toward Jannis. That was right, it was Jannis’ voice, and he said Sir, meaning he was calling him. Jannis should not be stupid enough to mock Clementine by calling her ” Sir, not after she tore his hand.
Tang Shaoyang waved his hand at Jannis, “I don’t have anything to say to you.”
Jannis was about to say something, but then Tang Shaoyang disappeared. Not exactly disappeared, he was replaced by Artras, the Shadow of Abyss. He used the Spirit Switch and went back to where he was left off. Artras also disappeared into the shadows without words.
“How convenient…” Clementine’s tone contained jealousy of Tang Shaoyang’s skill. The skill allowed him to be anywhere. That was something she did not have. She did not think that much about such a skill because teleportation was the easy solution, but now it could play a big role in a battle.
She clicked her tongue and turned toward Jannis, “Why are you guys still here anyway? And what do you need from him?”
It was obvious why Jannis was here, given how polite he was to Tang Shaoyang, facing his shame after trying to humiliate the new Executive Administrator, which ended up in a disaster. Jannis told what happened to his father, who held the title of The Warden of Maleficar.
Warden was the highest-ranked title in the Maleficar Kingdom, only one rank below the Demon King. There were nine Wardens who were the pillars of the Maleficar Kingdom, and Jannis’ father was one of the Wardens. His family was in charge of two worlds for the Maleficar Kingdom.
Jannis reported what Clementine did to him, thinking he might get something back from Clementine. But his father seemed to know him better than himself and asked him what he did for Clementine to tear off his hand. From there, he told the whole story, the start of the issue.
His father went on lecture mode, lecturing him on how old he was right now. What kind of status did he have right now? Then, proceed to tell him how he still acts like a brat. In the end, his father told him to make up with Clementine and the new Executive Administrator. His father threatened him that he would be disowned if he did not resolve the problem.
Clementine laughed when she heard the whole story, and she recalled it fit with Byron’s personality. That was right, she knew Jannis’ father. Byron Danseif, the Warden of the Maleficar Kingdom. They fought side by side a few times, but their factions never got into a conflict that resulted in a battle.
“You don’t need to worry about him. He would never talk to you, but he would not bother you as long as you don’t bother him. Just leave him alone, and you will be fine. Unless you decide to be a fool and try to mess with him again, then everything should be fine. It will not escalate to a war between factions.”
She waved her hand in assurance, “As for me and you. We are even since I tore your hand and got to taste it. You can leave now.”
Jannis was to speak for his case, but he realized that no matter what he said, it didn’t matter. Meanwhile, his father told him specifically to make up, meaning he must apologize to Tang Shaoyang, and Tang Shaoyang must accept his apology.
“Don’t force it, Jannis. Let’s wait in Administrator Space and try to talk to him again later.”
His friend’s advice made sense and might be the only way out. He did not think that Tang Shaoyang would accept his apologies on the same day for what he had done.
After seeing Tang Shaoyang fight earlier, he had to admit that he had the power to stand side by side with the other Executive Administrators. Deep inside, he admitted that, but he refused to accept it after the public humiliation earlier. However, his father reminded him how childish he was, given how old he was right now. That was how he accepted his mistake and was willing to apologize.
Jannis nodded at Clementine, “I would like to apologize for my childish behavior earlier, Lady Clementine. I know you said we are even, but it just feels wrong not to apologize. Please accept my apology, Lady Clementine.”
“Hmmmm…” Clementine nodded boringly, waving her hand at Jannis to leave, “I accept your apology. Now leave, I am not letting you stay and lose another team just because of your childish behavior. That guy has quite a nasty temper and kills his way to be an Administrator. I don’t think he will hesitate to kill you if you cross his line.”
Only then did Jannis and his team realize that the punishment was actually Clementine trying to protect them from Tang Shaoyang. Now he recalled what would have happened if Clementine had not interfered earlier. Would it be just one of his hands, or would he die?
Clementine watched Jannis and his team disappear one by one, getting teleported back to the Administrator Space. She was genuine when she said she did not want to lose another team, and also about sending them home early to protect them.
That might happen to them even though Tang Shaoyang said that he just wanted to freeze them. Losing an experienced team to your own people would be worse than losing a team to their attackers. On top of that, she was not only protecting Jannis and his team, but she was also protecting Tang Shaoyang from Andre.
If Tang Shaoyang killed an experienced team such as Jannis’ team. Andre might use it to kick Tang Shaoyang out. This was the best outcome.
