Chapter 1942 - 1942: Hero (4)

The two Grand Generals and the three Guild Masters were making a fuss because they were denied entrance. The guards were told not to let anyone enter the city, and at the same time, they were troubled because they were facing two Grand Generals and three Guild Masters.

“It’s an order from Lord Benedict that no one can enter the city! Please wait a moment, Sir. I will send someone to Lord Benedict,” The Guard Captain was too scared to open the gate, but he was also scared to deny these big figures. The only safest way was to delay and inform his superior.

Grand General Senton and Marko looked at the situation from the positive view that Benedict was suspicious because they returned too early. However, they had a bad feeling when the Guard Captain addressed Benedict as a lord instead of a young lord.

Tang Shaoyang had predicted that Benedict would do something, but he did not expect him to do this. He could picture what would happen next. Benedict must kill the two Grand Generals as well as the three Guild Masters and announce their death to the world. He would then announce to the world that they died in the battle against the Dominion Army. That was the only way to make his coronation legitimate and acknowledged by the other monarchies.

He did send his spirits inside to check the situation because he had his people inside. Aella was inside with the others, maybe they would know something. His spirits were quick with their information gathering. One of his shadows showed up to Aella and asked about the situation in detail and the others were looking into Benedict and his people.

Benedict did not announce that the Dominion Army was rooted, he instead announced the fall of Volans and Albin as well as their elite force in the battle against the Dominion Army. Not just that, he even announced the death of two Grand Generals from the Raven and Chevalier Monarchy. He was bold enough to appoint a temporary new Grand General with his authority as a Monarch of the Sorcerer Monarchy.

Benedict did not just appoint his people, but one of the God Ranks from the two monarchies. It meant Benedict had made a deal with them, using this promotion as a reward. If the current Grand General died in the battle, and they led the army to win the battle. The chance of them succeeding in the position would be high.

Then this was the real question, how was Benedict going to get rid of them? The Raven and Chevalier Monarchy brought their elites out, so the remaining inside the city was not that strong aside from Benedict’s force. They would not be able to win against them, let alone kill them.

“Hmmm…” Tang Shaoyang rubbed his chin, squinting his eyes. There must be something that guaranteed their plan to succeed for Benedict to choose this extreme path. The eldest son was good at scheming, and he felt there must be something that made Benedict make such a decision.

Even though he did not have much support from the nobles, he had support from the military. If it came to a fight, Benedict still had a chance to win. There was no need to get this far to offend the Raven and Chevalier Monarchy.

He looked to the side where the two Grand Generals and three Guild Masters were. Benedict could never persuade the two Grand Generals to take his side because he did not have something they wanted. The two Grand Generals already had everything, but it was different for the three Guild Masters.

“Do you want me to interfere, Master?” Gianni and Mathias seemed to have the same thoughts as him as both approached him and whispered.

They departed with more than five thousand people, but only less than one hundred that returned. If Benedict wanted to kill them all, this was the only chance. He then looked at Albin and his people. The four God Ranks that knelt stood closely behind Albin even after the humiliation they suffered in front of many people. They did not show animosity or resentment on the outside, at least that was how it looked to many people, but not Tang Shaoyang.

His Absolute Sense could pick their emotions. The four God Ranks suppressed their anger and murderous intent toward their Master. Then he looked toward the two Grand Generals and the three Guild Masters.

“Protect Guild Master Alves. He’s the only one who has been helpful to us. Don’t let him die,” Tang Shaoyang responded in a low voice.

“Leave it to me! They would be less suspicious if it was me because I am the only one that looked most ordinary between the four of us,” Ruben took the job as he sneakily slid toward the side.

“He’s here!” Tang Shaoyang motioned toward the wall with his head.

“Open the gate, Young Lord Benedict! We have confirmed the Dominion Army has perished, and we have to move quickly to retake the occupied cities before more victims fall into the hands of the Dominion’s people. We have to move quickly!” Grand General Marko immediately said as soon as Benedict appeared on top of the wall.

“Unfortunately, I can’t open the gate for you. You are not Grand General Marko! You are the Dominion’s people disguised as Grand General Marko! The real Grand General Marko is dead!” Benedict raised his voice for his and other soldiers to hear. Sample from My Virtual Library Empire—read more on M&VLEMPY&R.

“We have confirmed your death! We have our people following Grand General Marko, and they have confirmed you are killed by the trap set up by the Dominion! Volans’ subordinate, Captain Bran, made a deal with the Dominion to lure the real Grand General Marko out of the city and kill you. YOU CAN’T FOOL ME, YOU BEAST!”

The two Grand Generals were confused at first, but the two quickly realized what Benedict was trying to do. They did not expect Benedict would choose this extreme method with the risk of offending the Raven Monarchy and the Chevalier Monarchy.

“Stop this insanity at once, Benedict! Do you think you can get away from killing a Grand General?” Grand General Senton was angry that this fool still could not see the bigger picture. Instead of recapturing the occupied cities, Benedict was still scheming to claim the throne. It was stupid because once the Dominion established themselves in those occupied cities.

It would be harder for them to retake it. If they lost those territories, what was the point of taking the throne when they would lose it to the Dominion?

The worst part, Benedict would be making an enemy with the mercenary guild as well. Even though the mercenary guild was not as strong as a monarchy’s soldiers, the mercenaries had been a big help for the monarchy. Not just in the war, but for many other things.

“What are they going to do even if they find out that I can help you? Do you think they will wage a war for the dead men when the Sacred Kingdom and the Dominion are in our tails? No, they will overlook my offense and work together with me to fight the Dominion!” Benedict smiled ear to ear.

“And another thing, I am no longer a young lord, but I am the Lord of the Sorcerer Monarchy! I am the Sorcerer Monarch!” He raised his right hand in the air and made a motion forward. It looked like a signal, and everyone was immediately in a stance to fight off what would come for them.

However, the first cry came from Albin’s side. Heron, Zico, Patrick, and Oliver pinned down Albin and cut his limbs instantly. Albin screamed in pain while cursing the traitors.

Heron put a sword on the back of Albin’s head, “Don’t you dare make a move or I will kill him!”

Albin’s remaining supporters were as shocked as everyone, not expecting betrayal from those four people. They were stun-locked but also did not dare to pull their weapons even though they had numbers. Albin’s life was more important than killing these four traitors.

Another scream resounded from the other side. The Chevalier Guild Master, Justen, made his move against Grand General Marko. His sword pierced Grand General Marko’s heart from the back. Not just Marko, another God Rank Mercenary under Justen also stabbed Grand General Senton’s heart from behind.

Guild Master Alves survived the surprise attack by himself as he yelled while pointing toward the Sorcerer Guild Master, “Save her!”

Ruben appeared behind Hera and grabbed the incoming sword with his hand. He gripped the sword and broke it into pieces before pulling the assassin closer. He reached the man’s head with both hands and squished.

The cracking noise resounded and was followed by the sound of an explosion like a watermelon. The blood, the skull that turned into pieces, and also the brain juices spurted out. Ruben did not stop there as he was after Alves’ assassin as well, his hand broke through the plate armor and pulled out the man’s heart.

Not only did Ruben kill two God Ranks, but he also dragged Hera and Alves, regrouping with Tang Shaoyang’s group.

“It’s quite bloody, huh? I didn’t expect it from you, Ruben,” Tang Shaoyang remarked in surprise.

“I hate traitors the most, Your Majesty. They deserve the most brutal death!” Ruben answered in a cold voice.

“I see… Maybe I will send you to hunt traitors next time,” Tang Shaoyang muttered in a low voice before looking in Albin’s direction.

Albin was dragged by hairs after losing his four limbs. He was screaming and crying in pain as his body left a trail of blood. Albin’s supporters did not dare to do anything, afraid Albin would be killed which was a mistake. Benedict would never spare Albin’s life in the first place, so not trying to save Albin was their grave mistake.

“You have your chance again, Gianni. It seems like fate wants you to kill them, but try to save Albin this time. I don’t want him to die yet. As I said, I want to see his expression when he loses everything. That would be satisfying to watch.”
