Armed Train in the Apocalypse
Chapter 830 472: Asking for Directions (2)
Huayang leaned forward, dissatisfied, "Is my face no longer useful?"
The squad leader made an effort to recognize for a moment and then apologized, "Sorry, I don't know you. Before coming out, the higher-ups didn't mention you entering the base."
"What about your platoon leader?"
"Killed during the docking process."
Su Huan frowned slightly, interrupting Huayang's pointless inquiry, "Is it enough if I bring out your supplies and people?"
Su Huan didn't ask how to prove himself; that's a troublesome task. He just needed to lay out his chips, exchange if possible, or flip the table if not.
Luckily, the squad leader was a man of sentiment and agreed to this exchange.
Just relying on the Business Alliance's sentiment was certainly not enough, but Su Huan's demonstrated power was backing enough; the words of the strong are always convincing.
Next, the conductor showcased a ten-minute fast passage through the Yushu Camp to the two.
First, attack the smaller ones, when the bigger ones come, attack them, and after dealing with the big ones, the rest are all subdued and surrender—no men, women, or children escaped.
In this ghost place of the Wind Snow Zone, leaving the camp and the unity of the collective, an individual would silently perish.
The good news is that supplies were found.
The main grains remained intact; some meat, eggs, and milk were consumed. These are top-tier precious resources in the apocalypse, which only a top-tier force with broad channels like the Business Alliance can gather.
The bad news is that only bodies were left.
To eliminate any traces, this group was extremely ruthless. After the bodies froze hard, they were smashed and directly thrown into the beast pits, where a few gluttonous pigs were fed.
All the remaining things to identify were destroyed, leaving only a few guns and tactical gear without markings.
Not much to say about that; Su Huan cleaned up over two hundred of the three hundred people at Yushu Platform, leaving only about thirty.
Seeing the blood-stained camp, the squad leader's head buzzed entirely.
"Why kill them all?"
Su Huan glanced coldly at the thirty-odd trembling people beside him.
"There are still some left."
"Many of them didn't participate in the encirclement and attack on us..."
Su Huan's expression remained unchanged, only a bit colder in his eyes, "I promised to help you get back supplies and people, but didn't promise to help you solve cases."
The squad leader's remaining words were stuck in his throat; he had seen vicious people before.
But it was his first time seeing such a vicious logic.
Perhaps that's why the opposite side became so powerful in the apocalypse.
The squad leader acquiesced to Su Huan's method or forced himself to accept this logic, then slaughtered those few pigs that had eaten comrades' corpses and led the group to the base.
Since being severely reprimanded once, Huayang didn't dare to be casual with the conductor, but found it stifling all along the way, quietly grumbling behind He Jie.
"That old soldier's not bad, quickly accepting new ideas, better than my brothers."
He Jie shook his head while watching the old soldier's back, "He didn't really accept them, just switched to another state, a unique trait of soldiers."
Huayang's eyes flashed in surprise, "Following orders?"
"Remembering. Good." He Jie chuckled, stretched his hands like yawning, then slapped Huayang's shoulder, sending him directly into the snow without a sound.
"Next time, report and state your rank when speaking to an officer!"
"...Yes, Lieutenant He."
Upon hearing Huayang's muffled response, He Jie regretfully lowered his size 44 shoe; this kid's much smarter than Lao San.
Though anyone's smarter than that Lao San.
That was truly a smooth period…
He Jie sighed internally, carrying a heavy machine gun and holding the rear.
Originally, transporting supplies was difficult in the snow tunnels, but in front of the conductor, nothing posed a problem; no matter how narrow or twisted the path, once the conductor squeezed in, it became straight.
Had they not needed to accommodate those carrying heavy loads, they would reach their destination in about twenty minutes.
Now, they spent more than an hour, twisting and turning through dozens of forks.
In fact, they were just about three kilometers from the train's direction.
"It's just ahead."
Su Huan followed the squad leader into a building buried under the snow; it was a vacant two-story building, evident from the materials used that it had departed from the central area.
The squad leader turned his head seriously, "You can wait here first, but we need to report and confirm with the base before proceeding; my soldiers can go, I'll stay here."
Seeing the old soldier seemingly taking himself as a hostage, Su Huan shook his head internally.
Cautious enough, but really not useful in front of an Evolver.
The soldier limped towards the depths of the snow tunnel, but Su Huan's consciousness had already attached to him. Ignoring the misleading detours, he quickly identified his general direction. "Pan-energy Perception" unfolded rapidly, finding the base's true location shortly.
Gazing again at the old soldier's solemn demeanor, Su Huan didn't inform him that the base location was exposed, just quietly waited.
Anyway, they were already at the threshold of the true secret, stay calm.
Didn't have to wait long before a group of elite soldiers surged in, opening a pathway for a middle-aged man.
His face blending brownish-red and coarseness, epaulets on his coat shoulder catching snow frost, yet already revealing his identity, Donghuang Colonel.
A usual company's highest officer was only a Captain; a Colonel stationed here means there's definitely something here!
Facing a formal military officer, even He Jie's face gained some solemnity.
The man stopped one step away from Su Huan, eyes complex with emotion, while Su Huan also observed the opposite side, making the atmosphere heavy, with pairs of eyes fixed on the two.
After a long silence, the Colonel first saluted Su Huan.
"I'm Qiu Chong, Colonel Yang Cunyi's adjutant, ordered to stay at Lion Pass."
Su Huan's eyes sharp, "You should already know me."
The other nodded simply, "Hua Zonglin mentioned you, I've been anticipating your arrival—the current strongest in Donghuang, legendary conductor."
Qiu Chong's face showed no shock or disdain, but everyone could feel his seriousness. Each word seemed long brewed in his mouth, heavy with indescribable weight.
"Then you know what I want to ask."
Su Huan had no mind for pleasantries, cutting straight to the point.
"But this matter can only be told to you alone." Qiu Chong slightly sidestepped from the doorway, single-handedly gesturing an inviting posture like a blade fell.
His eyes frank and calm.
Su Huan stared directly at him, minutes ticked by, and the Colonel's arm didn't waver at all.
And he wasn't even a Tier One Evolver, at most newly awakened.
The atmosphere further froze until Huayang felt he might suffocate from the tension, the conductor eventually said a good word.
The dense atmosphere collapsed like an avalanche, everyone relaxed a little.
Su Huan didn't need anyone to lead the way, heading straight towards the base, with Qiu Chong following close behind.
Su Huan could even hear his heavy breathing, as the peripheral snow tunnel's temperature wasn't high.
Slightly opening his Domain, releasing some heat, Qiu Chong felt the rising temperature without further ado, said a thank you.
Su Huan casually asked, "Promoting to Tier One isn't hard, right?"
"Every promotion has a chance of death. I can't gamble, need to stay here until the mission completes."
"Looks like they indeed passed through here."
Qiu Chong didn't reply, tacitly acknowledging.
Su Huan felt a little emotional—the silent departure of millions to an unknown battlefield.
How large is the chessboard behind this?
"It's here."
Qiu Chong lightly coughed.
Su Huan's vision suddenly expanded, revealing a tunnel-like cave in front, soldiers fully armed standing on both sides, gazes firm.
