Chapter 57 - Heatstroke
Chapter 57 – Heatstroke
Bell had finished eating a sand boa and recovered a lot.
At the same time, as time passed, the audience in the live-stream increased.
Bell answered the audience’s questions as he walked.
“Host, I heard that as long as you follow the footsteps of animals, you can find water. Is that true?”
Seeing this comment, Bell smiled.
There were rarely genuine questions in the comments, so Bell naturally answered them generously.
“Actually, this is not completely wrong, but there is a flaw.”
“Most animals in the desert can do this, but camels are an exception.”
“The reason is that a camel is a creature with a different structure than other animals. A camel has three stomach chambers and can store a lot of food and water.”
“Therefore, in a place like the desert, camels can still move very widely.”
“If you see a camel in the desert and want to find a water source with it, I suggest you give up early.”
“Because in the end, you might die from dehydration.”
Everyone was enlightened.
“I see. As expected of Bell, he can answer all the questions.”
“This knowledge reserve is too shocking. Is Bell really only eight years old?”
Time passed slowly. The sun was already halfway to the peak.
Everywhere he looked was like yesterday. Because of the high heat, the air began to distort.
Feeling the temperature increase again, Bell heaved a sigh of relief.
“A day has passed.”
“I remember telling everyone in the program before that in the wild, besides food and water, there is another thing that is especially important. That is to maintain a good mentality.”
“In such a desert environment where there is no end in sight, it’s easy to feel despair.”
“Actually, I heard of a news article before.”
“A backpacker once went to the desert area to travel and accidentally got lost in the desert. He overcame many difficulties in the desert and walked for a day and night.”
“However, he still died in the end.”
“He did not lack food and water.”
“But the important thing is that when the rescue team retrieved the backpacker’s corpse, he was actually less than three kilometers away from walking out of the desert.”
“If he had persisted a little longer, he might have been able to walk out of the desert, but unfortunately, a day and night had tortured his spirit to the limits, causing him to give up on survival.”
Hearing Bell’s words, many of the audience fell silent.
Walking on the sandy ground, Bell wiped the sweat from his forehead.
He was also thinking to himself.
‘From yesterday to now, I should have walked at least 50 kilometers.’
‘This is the hinterland. It should be about 200 kilometers from the road.’
‘It’s not clear how far I am from that oasis in the desert.’
‘But if nothing goes wrong, I should be able to reach it tomorrow at this time.’
As long as he could reach the oasis safely, the rest would be much simpler.
With his abilities, Bell believed that food and water resources would not be his problem.
Of course, the time Bell had set for himself was far longer than tomorrow.
After all, once a person had a goal, if their expectations were not met, it could easily cause severe disappointment.
Time passed slowly, and the sun had already moved to the center.
The desert at noon was like a huge oven.
Whether it was the sky or the ground, they both emitted a very hot air.
Bell felt thirsty again.
After walking for a while, he felt that it was too hot. He found a place to avoid the direct light and tested the temperature of the sand.
After feeling that it was about time, Bell dug a pit.
“The sand here is not as hot as other places. We can take the opportunity to rest.”
“Moreover, because the bottom of the sand is cooler, we can let the sand absorb the heat of the human body. This can also maintain our body temperature.”
“To be honest, I’m already feeling a little dizzy.”
“I believe everyone who has experienced summer will understand that this is a sign of getting a heat stroke.”
“In other places, heatstroke might not be a big problem, but here, it’s completely different.”
“Once we fall unconscious here, it is the same as declaring our deaths, so this cannot happen.”
“We need to rest for a while. It won’t take long. We just need to let the sand below absorb some of the heat from our bodies to maintain our body temperature before moving forward.”
Bell stopped moving.
Although Bell had said it very easily, if he had dared to delay for a while longer, he might have had a heat stroke and would have been in huge trouble.
The audience understood Bell’s situation and did not criticize him.
Instead, they kept comforting Bell.
“Host, you have worked hard. Hurry and rest. Don’t force yourself.”
“That’s right, host, you’re already very awesome. Many of the other contestants have already been eliminated.”
Bell smiled.
He did not force himself and prepared to rest for a while.
Although he was in the desert, exhaustion still surged after he lay down.
When he woke up again, it was almost 5 pm.
The discomfort he felt earlier had completely dissipated.
Bell stood up and stopped wasting time.
“Alright, sorry to have kept you waiting.”
“I feel like my mental state has completely recovered.”
“I have to say, lying on the cool sand is a good idea.”
“The hottest period of the day has passed. We have to continue.”
“We have to hurry. Actually, I think I am adapting to this environment.”
“This means that we have passed the most difficult time.”
“It’s time to hurry.”
With that, Bell packed his things.
He continued to rush in the direction he had set.
