Are There Only Demonesses Left in the Cultivation Realm?
Chapter 220: Born Killer
Chapter 220 -150: Born Killer
Their past deeds and future travels were all contained within that one bowl of wine.
“Wuxiang?”
“What are you staring at? Drink up. This is the last of my money. We’ll have to get some from Miss Ling afterward. You get along with her, so you go ask.”
Lu Changyuan shook his head helplessly and downed the wine in his bowl in one go.
It felt like a ball of fire searing his throat.
“What kind of wine is this?”
Su Wuxiang answered, “Burning Blade. They say it’s a favorite among travelers passing through.”
The liquor was cheap because, aside from its raw strength, it had no other redeeming qualities.
But Lu Changyuan still smiled. “Not bad.”
His wound was still bleeding, the pain intense, but that single gulp of liquor numbed him to it. He couldn’t feel the pain anymore and felt an urge to let out a long sigh.
Su Wuxiang chuckled. “You’re pretty banged up. So, how did it go?”
“Killed him.”
So, the two of them had ridden for a thousand leagues to hunt down the infamous Ghost Daoist.
The Ghost Daoist was truly formidable. Not only was his Realm higher than theirs, but he had an endless array of tricks up his sleeve. Upon approaching this city, the Ghost Daoist had actually split himself in two, becoming a Ghost and a Daoist.
Lu Changyuan and Su Wuxiang had split up to give chase, with Lu Changyuan hunting the Daoist and Su Wuxiang hunting the Ghost. They had agreed to meet here afterward.
Su Wuxiang roared with laughter. “I killed mine, too! That Ghost Daoist killed thirty-seven Cultivators, and in the end, he fell to us. But look at you… you really took a beating. You’re hurt pretty badly.”
Lu Changyuan silently took two steps forward, reached out, and yanked open Su Wuxiang’s robes. On his partner’s well-built back was the long, bloody handprint of a ghost.
Dark red blood had already soaked through his inner shirt, but it had been hidden by his outer robes.
Lu Changyuan smiled. Only then did he speak. “Looks like you’re not much better off than I am. In fact, when it comes to our injuries, mine are a bit lighter. I win.”
Su Wuxiang let out a long, drawn-out scoff.
After a long moment, he said, “How many Demons is that for us now?”
Lu Changyuan did a careful count. “For me, that makes ninety-seven. You?”
“Three less than you. How boring.” Su Wuxiang was still stewing over his loss to Lu Changyuan. “You born killer. Don’t tell me you’re counting all the pigs and dogs you’ve slaughtered, too?”
“The ones I kill are beasts.”
Su Wuxiang stared at Lu Changyuan for a stunned moment, then broke into a laugh.
For years, Lu Changyuan and Su Wuxiang had been little more than hurried travelers.
They would arrive in a place, kill a Demon, and leave, stopping at most for a bowl of wine, just like today.
They had accomplished much, but in these chaotic times, it felt like a drop in the ocean. Still… someone had to do it.
Lu Changyuan coughed, spitting up a mouthful of blood. “Let’s go. Back to the Sun and Moon Palace. She’s waiting for us.”
But to his surprise, Su Wuxiang shook his head.
“There’s another Demon in this city.”
“Hm? Another Demon in the city?”
A monstrous killing intent erupted from Lu Changyuan, staining his Magic and condensing into a tangible, scarlet substance. “What are its origins? Is it a Demon Cultivator, or a true Demon?”
“A person corrupted into a Demon by the Desire Demon.” Su Wuxiang narrowed his eyes. “They say he was originally a man of letters. A month before the imperial examinations in Chang’an, he suddenly achieved Entering the Dao through his scholarship, soaring directly into the Three Realms of the Literary Dao. Not long after, he passed the exams and became the Champion Scholar.”
Lu Changyuan frowned. “And then?”
“But the night after Entering the Dao, the Champion Scholar had Fallen into Demon. He threw the imperial court into chaos, filling it with a monstrous Demonic Qi, and the common people have been crying out in grievance ever since.”
“I’ll go take a look. If he really is a Demon, I’ll take care of him while I’m at it.”
“Fair enough. You’ve never been wrong about anyone corrupted by the Desire Demon.”
By now, Lu Changyuan had developed an uncanny ability to identify those possessed by the Desire Demon.
Su Wuxiang gazed at the city. “Rumor has it the Champion Scholar is heading to a brothel today to drag one of the girls home with him. And without paying a single piece of silver.”
“When?”
“He’s already here.”
