Chapter 148: Chapter 115: I’m Not a Dowry

A member of the Spirit Race asked in a daze, "What is this?"

The blood quickly submerged him. His flesh and blood were completely devoured by the crimson tide.

Lan Xi said in disbelief, "How can this be!"

Qiu Yuehan snapped, "You idiot! If your Spirit Race ancestors were truly sealed down here, do you think we would have let your people live on this mountain?"

Lan Xi clearly hadn’t considered that.

He had probably assumed this was the Human Race’s way of humiliating them—sealing their ancestors and then forcing them to guard the very seal that held them.

"Junior Sister, the being sealed down here is a Blood Demon! This pack of fools has been feeding it every ten years, and now it’s breaking out!" Qiu Yuehan shouted.

Xia Lianxue immediately channeled her Dharma Operation through the Time Dao, trying to reverse the seal to its state before it was opened. But the massive altar was already collapsing, piece by piece. The gushing blood paused for only a moment before continuing its endless downpour. The entire Long Mountain was filled with a nauseating, bloody stench.

"A Blood Demon? Impossible! A Blood Demon is supposed to be sealed in the Blood Demon Palace!" Xia Lianxue said, her voice filled with disbelief. "The Blood Demon Lord of the Blood Demon Palace sealed a Blood Demon, slowly devoured it, and comprehended the Blood Dao from its body, allowing him to ascend to the Yao Guang realm!"

This was, in fact, one of the great secrets of the Cultivation Realm.

The Blood Demon Palace was a relatively new power. Unlike the Miao Yu Palace, which had a long history, it was a recently established Sect, founded solely on the Blood Demon Lord’s meteoric rise. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

The Blood Demon Lord cultivated the Blood Dao. The very foundation of the Blood Demon Palace was the Blood Demon sealed beneath it, its Power continuously siphoned off by the Demon Lord using his Great Divine Techniques.

It was for this very reason that the members of the Blood Demon Palace could advance their Blood Dao cultivation by leaps and bounds, allowing them to firmly secure a place among the Nine Gates and Twelve Palaces.

But if the creature under the Blood Demon Palace was a Blood Demon, then what in the world was sealed beneath Long Mountain?

The question was answered almost immediately.

For in the center of the altar, amidst the blood as thick as a swamp, a figure slowly began to coalesce.

It was a gigantic, blood-red worm!

This, too, was a Blood Demon. But the most bizarre thing was that this giant, blood-red worm had only half a body. On its forehead, which was formed from a web of writhing, bloody tendrils, was a large character: "Netherworld."

A beam of sword light slashed from Qiu Yuehan. "Junior Sister, it’s been unleashed! We can’t stay on Long Mountain. This entire place has already become its Demon Country."

During the thousands of years it had been sealed, the Blood Demon had already seeped into every corner of Long Mountain.

From where Qiu Yuehan and Xia Lianxue stood, the entire mountain seemed to be bleeding.

The Little Fairy moved with incredible speed to pull Qiu Yuehan away, but the figure she grabbed dissolved into a puddle of blood the very next instant.

"Senior Sister?!"

The surrounding curtain of blood parted, revealing that at some point, the real Qiu Yuehan had been switched.

The Little Fairy in a White Skirt, ignoring the scarlet blood spattering her, tore through the curtain of blood. Only then did she see the truth. The real Qiu Yuehan had been seized by a monstrous, bloody hand and was being dragged toward the worm’s enormous maw.

The Blood Demon knew that Xia Lianxue would be difficult to deal with, so it had ignored her from the start.

Moreover, the Blood Demon would never forget the face of the one who had sealed it for thousands of years. From the moment it was free, it had been driven mad by its desire for revenge against the Nether Monarch.

And as luck would have it, its hated enemy was right before its eyes. Therefore, no matter the cost, it was determined to kill Qiu Yuehan right here, right now.

Xia Lianxue raised her sword. Though she cultivated the Time Dao, she was also skilled in Miao Yu’s Thirteen Swords, as well as Lu Changyuan’s swordsmanship.

In an instant, a flash of sword light bloomed from the young woman’s hand and struck the long, monstrous arm. The Blood Demon’s body was sliced to pieces, but Qiu Yuehan was not saved.

The Blood Demon was willing to suffer damage to its own Origin. Even after being grievously wounded by Xia Lianxue’s strike, it was still determined to devour Qiu Yuehan.

"Senior Sister!"

Xia Lianxue’s voice carried from a distance, practically overflowing with desperation and anxiety.

Qiu Yuehan coughed up a mouthful of blood. Her already frail body was being crushed in the giant hand’s grip, and she heard the sickening groan of her own bones. The blood stained her jet-black skirt, a startlingly stark crimson. Even the blood she’d just spat out vaporized into a mist, rushing ahead of her into the Blood Demon’s mouth.

The Fairy bit her cherry-red lips until they turned white. She tried to lift her sword but heard more of her bones snap. The great, fang-filled maw loomed before her. She was a picture of desperate beauty, like a flower blooming among the clouds, unmoored and helpless, or a fragile willow barely clinging to life in a storm.

’Am I going to be eaten?’

’For some reason, Qiu Yuehan found herself remembering many things. The Old Monster’s face flashed before her eyes, and past memories trickled by like a gentle stream.’

’It’s so hot.’

A sudden heat seared her pale foot. The Jade Bracelet on her ankle was glowing, its heat intense enough to scald her fair skin.

The excruciating pain wracking her body made Qiu Yuehan feel as if she were hallucinating.

’Did she... see someone?’

’They say your life flashes before your eyes right before you die. Is this it?’

THUD!

It was a sound like a hammer striking the earth. The Blood Demon was forced to release Qiu Yuehan as its massive, worm-like half-body was slammed into the ground.

Qiu Yuehan floated down like a black snowflake, falling into Xia Lianxue’s embrace.

From the worm’s forehead, out of the very center of the "Netherworld" character, stepped a man in a Profound Robe with a longsword slung over his shoulder. He was the one who had hammered the worm into the ground.

It was a mystery why he hadn’t used the exceptionally sharp-looking sword he carried.

Xia Lianxue cried out in delighted surprise, "Sir?!"

Lu Changyuan smiled. "Mm."

Then, he leaped into the air and stomped on the worm’s body, crushing its head and sending blood flying. "Long time no see... for you, at least. But I’m really sick of you."

「In the blink of an eye.」

Before Lu Changyuan could even get his bearings, he saw the Blood Demon worm open its maw, poised to swallow Qiu Yuehan.

He reacted on instinct, throwing a punch.
