Are There Only Demonesses Left in the Cultivation Realm?
Chapter 139 - 112: The Spirit Who Walked Out of the Netherworld
Chapter 139: Chapter 112: The Spirit Who Walked Out of the Netherworld
"Two days left on our journey."
A towering Snow Mountain appeared before Lu Changyuan, stretching for thousands of miles into the distance.
He had always been one to take advice. When he learned he would run into the Dream Demon Race by going straight, he decisively took a detour, thus avoiding the Dream Demons.
In truth, Dream Demons also existed in the later Cultivation Realm. This race would occasionally enter the dreams of other races, bringing them pleasant dreams and taking a sliver of Essence Qi as payment.
Of course, those were the educated Dream Demons. The Dream Demons of the past were monsters that would take advantage of entering someone’s dream to kill the host directly.
Running into them would be a huge hassle, not to mention the Dream Demons of this era were certainly uneducated. Lacking the harsh discipline of the Chang’an Daoist, they were somewhat uncontrollable.
[Spacetime is rejecting you]
Lu Changyuan closed his eyes. When he opened them again, the words were gone.
"Mmm..."
The Nether Monarch snuggled deeper into Lu Changyuan’s arms and actually opened her eyes.
A rare confusion filled the young woman’s eyes. Then, she spoke in a hoarse voice, "You... you didn’t put me down."
Lu Changyuan replied irritably, "Why would I put you down?"
The Nether Monarch said nothing, a faint smile simply gracing the face that was identical to Qiu Yuehan’s. "Mm."
’What does "Mm" even mean?’
"Can you walk on your own?"
"Not really. The blood is still acting up. I have no strength in my body."
All the young woman could do was lean her head against Lu Changyuan’s chest, speaking listlessly.
Lu Changyuan figured as much. The curse linked to the Royal Blood of an entire race wouldn’t be so easy to endure. "Then rest well. It’s time to cross the Snow Mountain."
Now it was truly a mix of rain and snow.
The rain was still falling, but here on the Snow Mountain, it had turned into Ice Cones falling from the sky, which actually hurt when they hit.
Lu Changyuan lowered his head to look at the Nether Monarch. The young woman seemed to have said something, but he hadn’t heard it clearly as his mind had wandered.
He had no choice but to lean his ear closer to her lips.
And so, his cheek was kissed.
Lu Changyuan knew he had been tricked and couldn’t help but chuckle.
"That monster from the Blood Race is coming. If you really can’t handle it in a bit, just leave me behind," the young woman said in a matter-of-fact tone. "But remember to avenge me."
She was under the Blood Demon’s curse. The closer the Blood Demon got, the more severe her reaction became.
The Royal Blood she had managed to suppress with great difficulty was now beginning to stir again, which meant the Blood Demon was extremely close.
Lu Changyuan shook his head. "You should have said that at the beginning. It’s a bit too late now. Since I’ve brought you this far, I will definitely see you to Long Mountain."
The Nether Monarch just smiled, her lips curling as she looked at Lu Changyuan.
’If she had told him at the beginning, would he really not have brought her to Long Mountain?’
The young woman’s ink-black hair had become somewhat dry and lifeless, and it was stained with her blood. "The Human Race, as always, loves to keep its promises."
Carrying her, Lu Changyuan stepped onto the snow.
"It’s just that *I* like to keep my promises."
"Then you definitely won’t leave me?"
Lu Changyuan didn’t reply, but his speed was immense. The frigid wind was like a blade, slicing at his cheek and drawing a trace of blood.
The Nether Monarch felt Lu Changyuan’s temperature.
’It’s cool and refreshing. Very comfortable.’
She said out of the blue, "I hear the Human Race are creatures that are in heat all year round."
"Who told you that?"
The tense atmosphere was largely dissipated by the Nether Monarch’s bizarre question.
"Back where I used to live, there were always creaking and groaning sounds coming from the tents every night. Granny Long wouldn’t let me look."
’Children shouldn’t see such things.’
Lu Changyuan couldn’t help but let out a couple of laughs. He felt the wound on the web of his hand wasn’t hurting as much anymore.
"Why are you asking this?"
"You are my Lifebound Spirit, after all. Isn’t it the master’s responsibility to find you a mate?"
’Why does this have the same vibe as ’we’ll get married when this fight is over’?’
Lu Changyuan didn’t answer, instead suddenly turning his head back.
Below the Snow Mountain, a blood-red curtain that blotted out the sky was rising. Countless blood-worms seemed to squirm within it, inspiring a feeling of instinctual disgust.
’It’s here so fast.’
Having devoured the races Lu Changyuan had killed, the Blood Demon seemed to have grown even more terrifying.
"For a monster like this, won’t the Celestial Dao send down a Thunder Tribulation?"
The Nether Monarch’s weak voice was filled with confusion. "What Celestial Tribulation? The Celestial Dao has never sent down a Celestial Tribulation."
’What does she mean the Celestial Dao has never sent down a Celestial Tribulation?’
WHOOSH!
A massive Ice Cone shot toward Lu Changyuan. He stopped his train of thought and chopped the Ice Cone in two with a backhand strike.
"I’d rather be part of the Human Race..." ℯℯ𝑙.
The young woman’s words were lost in the wind as Lu Changyuan drew his sword.
Countless long-furred Snow Demons had already materialized on the pure white snow, just like the ones Lu Changyuan had seen in the Little Fairy in a White Skirt’s dream.
’These Snow Demons haven’t changed much in tens of thousands of years,’ Lu Changyuan thought.
"Hold on tight. We have to push through to the top in one go."
The Nether Monarch grunted in assent, a myriad of thoughts swirling in her eyes.
She was used to being alone.
But she never expected that, at this moment of life and death, her loneliness would take it upon itself to flee, replaced by a cool embrace.
Lu Changyuan extended his sword hand, caught a piece of ice, and put it in his mouth, crushing it. CRUNCH. CRUNCH. The bone-chilling cold stung his tongue, sharpening his senses considerably.
"You can go back to sleep for a bit. We’ll be there when you wake up."
The flash of his sword appeared once more.
Unlike the scorching sword of A Sword from the West, which burned like a blazing sun, this strike was suffused with the stench of blood. It dyed the wind and snow crimson. The myriad ice crystals in the whistling wind shattered, transforming into blood-soaked Sword Qi that mercilessly pierced through the bodies of the Snow Demons.
The main force of the sword strike then slammed violently into the mountain.
The entire mountain range trembled as if it were shattering. Snow that had lain dormant for tens of thousands of years collapsed along the sword’s path, revealing the mountain’s dark, rocky bones deep within. It was as if the mountain had been split open by this one strike, and the snow fell like mottled spatters of its blood.
Lu Changyuan said, "Compared to you baring your fangs and claws, you look much better kneeling and kowtowing."
And with that, the snows fell, carrying an aura of despair and becoming an avalanche that drained all color from the world.
The young woman watched the mountainside collapse, the Snow Demons wail, and everything fall into the embrace of death.
For some reason, she felt that this was the most beautiful scene she had ever witnessed in her short life.
