Chapter 1842: Chapter 991:

…..

Southern Paradise convoy.

Chen Er looked at the sulking Ma Yingxue and said with a grin, “What, didn’t get to see your lover boy, so you’re in a bad mood?”

Last time he’d personally seen Xiao Jun give Ma Yingxue something.

This time around, it was Ma Yingxue who took the initiative to ask to come along again.

When Ma Yingxue heard what Chen Er said, she suddenly lifted her head.

“Fuck your uncle!”

The words were clear and forceful, full of confidence.

“Ahem, ahem, a girl talking like that, that’s not very appropriate, not appropriate at all, yeah.” Chen Er dry-coughed a few times as he spoke.

His face couldn’t quite hold, but there was nothing he could do to her.

Ever since he saw Xiao Jun give Ma Yingxue that thing last time, he’d reported the whole matter honestly to Mr. Hu.

Mr. Hu was very interested in it and told him to leave it alone.

If Ma Yingxue could hook up with someone in Oil City, that’d actually be a good thing.

At the very least, the relationship between their Southern Paradise and Oil City would get even more solid.

On their convoy’s way back to Southern Paradise.

They didn’t notice at all that, a kilometer away, two vehicles were trailing them from a distance.

“Boss, judging by the direction they’re heading, it should be Jiang Province.” Wen Sheng said to the sturdy man sitting in the back.

“Stay on them, but don’t get too close, don’t let them spot us.”

“Got it.”

……

Right after Southern Paradise and those Northern Territory Federation Governor’s people left.

Another convoy came driving in from the north.

Screech—

“Park it right here. Goddamn Big Hammer, didn’t you say you knew the way? You took such a huge detour and got us blocked by Zombies in that karst cave. You’re something else, man, wasting all these days.”

A man whose face was covered in scars jumped down from the vehicle and cursed at a man carrying a sledgehammer.

Big Hammer plastered on a big smile and said, “You can’t blame me for that, okay? I figured that kid pulling guard duty seemed reliable, so I stepped out to take a leak…..”

The teenager Xiao Yuan sitting in the vehicle muttered a gloomy rebuttal:

“I stood guard for six hours straight. You never showed up at all.”

“Huh? You little shit, your skin itching for a beating? With that scrawny frame of yours you’re not even worth one swing of my hammer.” Big Hammer strode over, ready to drag Xiao Yuan down.

They were a temporary exploration team put together by the Federation’s Second Young Master of the Northern Border.

Their mission was to head south and find out what’s up with that Big Camphor Tree Base.

This bunch were all desperados, ruthless with their hands.

In the vehicle, Xiao Yuan watched Big Hammer storm over.

Slowly he drew a Dagger from his thigh, lowering his head, watching Big Hammer approach out of the corner of his eye.

As soon as Big Hammer opened the door, he would drive the blade into Big Hammer’s neck in the first instant.

Now he was just waiting for that moment when the door opened.

These past few days, it was Big Hammer who kept bullying him, cursing him out.

All the filthy, exhausting jobs, things like night watch, were dumped on him.

This time something went wrong, and they were pinning it on him again.

Smack!

The scar-faced leader slapped Big Hammer hard across the face.

“Goddamn you, are you even a man, picking on the weak all the time?”

Big Hammer, slapped, staggered and fell to the ground.

He didn’t say a word.

He glanced at the gun in the scarred man’s hand, lowered his head; a flash of venom flickered in his eyes.

Then his expression changed instantly, and he said with a smile, “Brother Meng, you’re right, that was just an accident, please don’t take it to heart.”

The scar-faced man gave him a sidelong glance, then looked at Xiao Yuan in the vehicle and let out a cold snort.

Cursing, he said, “None of you are worth a damn. Next time if they put me on a job, I’m picking my own people. What kind of useless crap is this.”

“Baozi, check the map. How far are we from that Oil City?” Brother Meng asked.

Baozi, who was behind the wheel, fished out the map and said:

“Not far, less than five kilometers.”

Brother Meng thought for a moment, then said to Big Hammer, whose face was creased with smiles:

“Yeah, we’ll park the vehicles right here.

Big Hammer, you and that Xiao Yuan go to Oil City and scout the situation. We’ll wait for you here.

We’ve lost so much time all because of the two of you, so this time you’re going to make up for it. Do a good job.

Be back here before dark.

Any problem with that?”

Big Hammer’s face flushed red; his whole body was resisting.

But when he saw the gun in Brother Meng’s hand, he finally said grudgingly, “Brother Meng, me and that kid don’t get along. Can’t you send someone else?”

“No. You two caused the mess, so you two clean it up. I, Brother Meng, care about one thing: fairness.” Brother Meng said.

Big Hammer grumbled to himself inwardly.

“Fairness, fairness my ass, fuck. It’s just big fish eating little fish, little fish eating shrimp. I heard the people in that Oil City are vicious as hell, and he’s sending the two of us in—how the hell are we supposed to complete the mission, fuck your uncle!”

“Are you going or not!?” Brother Meng suddenly snapped.

Something flickered in Big Hammer’s mind; he said, “Fine, I’ll go.”

With that, he turned to the vehicle to take down his pack.

He still had some rationed food in there.

The pack was a bit heavy, at least fifty pounds.

Big Hammer had plenty of strength, so lifting it wasn’t hard.

“Hold up.” Baozi grabbed the hand he was using to pull the pack down.

He looked to the scar-faced man and asked, “Brother Meng, he’s trying to take his pack. I think he wants to use the chance to run.”

Big Hammer said in a rush, “It’s my pack, why can’t I take it?”

Brother Meng replied, “Leave the pack. Just go like this. We’ll keep it safe for you, but if you take your stuff and run, where are we supposed to find you?”

Big Hammer clenched his fists tight.

In the end he let go anyway—fine, he’d just wing it. Once they got near Oil City, he’d find some relatively safe spot, hide out for two hours, then come back.

As for the situation in Oil City?

He’d just make something up; they had no way to tell if it was true or not anyway.

If they didn’t believe him, they could go check for themselves.

Thinking it through, Big Hammer finally said:

“Brother Meng, what are you saying? How could I run? I’ll listen to you, I’ll head out right now.”

Bang!

A teenage boy climbed down from the vehicle.

Seeing the two of them obey his orders without a fuss, Brother Meng felt a lot more satisfied.

He nodded and said, “Do a good job. Once this mission’s done, Second Young Master will give us extra rewards. Go on!”

The boy nodded, then he and Big Hammer headed in the direction of Oil City.

The two of them looked no different from ordinary Survivors, the easiest kind of faces to hide their identities with, not likely to attract attention.

After they’d walked for more than ten minutes.

Big Hammer looked at the teenager following behind him and tightened his grip on the sledgehammer in his hands.

Then he let it go again.

He stopped, waited for the boy to catch up, and said coldly:

“Kid, listen to me later. We’ll find a hidden spot up ahead, hole up for two hours and then head back.

If Brother Meng and the others ask, you just say Oil City’s on high alert, wouldn’t let us in, and then drove us off.

You hear me?”

Teenager Xiao Yuan ignored him.

He just walked on ahead at his own pace.

“I’m asking you, did you fucking hear me or not? You trying to get yourself killed? You stupid or what?”

Big Hammer said, getting a bit frantic.

The teenager suddenly stopped walking.

He looked back at Big Hammer and nodded.

Seeing him agree, Big Hammer nodded in satisfaction.

“Now that’s more like it.”
