Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus
Chapter 1686 - 931: The Compound? We Just Came From There! (2)
The needle was covered in fresh blood; maybe he hadn’t aimed right and jabbed into the corpus cavernosum.
Dapao held the needle, but instead of ripping the tape off Qiu Yuanze’s face, he walked over to that other man, the one Lao Zhou said also had a gun.
"So, how about you talk to me?"
The man’s whole body was shaking like a sieve, regret eating him alive. He was kicking himself for listening to Brother Cheng and insisting on taking such a risk.
He’d thought this force, since it took in these survivors, must have some kind of so‑called "bottom line" and a desire to save people. And forces like that, they’d always known how things usually ended.
But once the protest was over, he realized Brother Cheng had been wrong.
Completely, utterly wrong.
This Big Camphor Tree Base wasn’t some decent outfit at all, it was a wolf in sheep’s clothing—no, a whole pack of wolves!
"Not talking?" Dapao looked at him, a flicker of annoyance in his eyes. Brother Yu was watching right now; if he couldn’t get anything out of this guy, where would he put his face.
"I like tough guys the best." Dapao finished, picked up the metal clamp, ready to repeat what he’d just done to Qiu Yuanze.
The man hurriedly blurted out:
"No no no, I’ll talk, I’ll talk."
Dapao put down the clamp and watched him quietly.
"I’m from Lao Country. Our team leader is Brother Cheng.
Over a month ago, our boss, Director Gao, sent some people into the Southwest and they seized a lot of supplies. After that he started sending more people in on a big scale.
Our team got sent out too, but competition in the Southwest was brutal. People from Myanmar and Yue Country had all come in.
So we headed west, planning to see if we could find anything out there. Then we noticed some survivors were constantly moving east. We trailed them in secret and that’s how we ended up here, by the Big Camphor Tree Base.
..."
Hearing that,
boom—
The protesters tied up in the same row as him exploded on the spot.
"You sons of bitches, so it was you! Pah! My wife was killed by you bastards! Fuck your mother!"
"I must’ve been blind, letting you use me like that. Let me go, I’m gonna tear his throat out!"
"Aaaahhh!"
....
In an instant all the protesters went insane. There’s nothing more unbearable than being tricked by the people you hate most, ending up grateful to them and letting them use you.
These protesters were exactly that!
They’d all come from the Southwest. Why?
Wasn’t it because of those fraudsters from Lao Country driving them out?
Blood feud!
It wasn’t just them; even Li Yu and his people were a bit stunned.
That Qiu Yuanze, and this man who’d just come clean, both spoke fluent Mandarin and looked no different from locals. How could they be people from over in Lao Country?
But thinking it through, it did make sense. Before the Doomsday, lots of scammers over there had snuck across the border chasing money.
"You’re from Z Country?" Dapao asked.
The man’s face showed a trace of awkwardness. He nodded. "Yeah, I went over more than ten years ago. A friend said you could make money there. Turned out there was no money, and I couldn’t get back."
"Since that’s the case, how can you stomach them doing this kind of thing? Helping outsiders go after your own people?" Dapao said, a little pissed.
The man snorted coldly at that. "It’s the end of the world. What ’own people’ are you talking about? Right now it’s the era of me eating you and you eating me. If I don’t make a move, I just wait for someone else to eat me."
Heh. This man‑eating Doomsday.
Dapao was at a loss for words. The guy was both right and wrong.
It wasn’t like everywhere was as bad as the Big Camphor Tree Base, but after all the missions he’d run outside with Li Yu, he knew damn well how brutal things were out there.
If someone wants to survive, it’s either dumb luck or total ruthlessness.
Only like that can you barely hang on.
His little speech surprised Li Yu somewhat.
He’d originally thought He Zhi, or even Qiu Yuanze, were probably just people who’d fled in from the Southwest.
After all, some survivor squads finding a few handguns in certain PSB stations wasn’t unusual.
But for there to still be this many bullets so long after the Doomsday, that was a bit hard to believe.
Fraud gangs in Southeast Asia with regional warlord backgrounds having access to this much ammo—that actually made more sense.
Thinking of that, Li Yu remembered the supplies from the three hundred‑plus vehicles they’d brought back this trip. There’d been a lot of weapons and ammunition among them.
All of it stockpiled by those scam gangs with local military backgrounds.
The line of protesters tied up in front started wailing and begging for mercy.
"Spare us, we were tricked by these fraudsters too. I’d love nothing more than to chew him apart alive."
"Yeah, if I’d known earlier, I never would’ve fallen for their bullshit."
"I was wrong, I was really wrong."
...
But nobody paid them any attention.
Right then, Qiu Yuanze, a few people down from the man, suddenly started thrashing violently.
Yang Tianlong frowned and walked over.
Rrrip—
He tore the tape off Qiu Yuanze’s mouth.
"Jiafa, why the hell did you talk! You traitor!"
Qiu Yuanze shouted at the man who had confessed.
The man, whose name was Jiafa, wasn’t scared at all. He shot back:
"We’re already in their hands. Whether we talk or not, we end up the same. If I talk, maybe I live. If I don’t, I die. You really think Director Gao is coming back to save us?"
Those words made Qiu Yuanze choke.
He glared viciously at Dapao and the others and said:
