Apocalypse Villainess? Nah, I'm Nice
Chapter 522 - 367: Interrogation
Of course, there were other possibilities regarding this matter.
Perhaps this wasn’t the Summers Family’s island, and those two had just washed ashore here. But regardless, if they had truly failed to complete the critical mission Grandpa Summers entrusted to them, leading to the near-extinction of the last of the Summers bloodline, then in Paige Summers’s eyes, they deserved to die!
A shadow fell over her face as she thought about this.
Although this grandpa wasn’t *her* grandpa, the one in the original owner’s memories shared many similarities with her own grandfather from her past life.
He had exhausted himself for the sake of the family, and even in its decline, he had remained strong and principled.
A Clan Leader like that was rare, and a man like that was rare.
Paige Summers desperately wanted to do something for them.
Although it was perhaps too late to say so now.
But those two... if it was just as she suspected, then the fact they had shamelessly survived until now was intolerable!
Marcus Monroe knew about this matter, so when Paige Summers mentioned just a few words, he understood the key points.
He understood how she felt.
So, he said nothing, simply taking her hand in his.
"If you want to do it, then do it."
Paige Summers squeezed his hand back tightly. "Okay."
The pair ahead of them weren’t in a vehicle, so they clearly didn’t live far. Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe followed at a leisurely pace, and soon, the scent led them to a residential area.
The houses here were different from those in Astoria, built in a completely Rovarian style. The rows of traditional cottages made it seem like they had stepped back into an era steeped in Japanese-inspired culture.
And the scent disappeared into one of those cottages.
Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe walked past without stopping. But once they had passed and were sure no one was watching, they turned and crept back to the cottage.
The sky had grown completely dark.
When the patrol team passed through, they naturally didn’t spot them.
However, from another perspective, this residential area seemed quite "high-end"—at least equivalent to District C in Central City.
Paige Summers and Marcus Monroe landed as lightly as two kites on the cottage’s roof, the sounds from inside reaching their ears clearly.
"Sunny, go back to your big brother’s place tomorrow."
It was Summers Twelve’s voice.
Paige Summers noted that the presence of the other man wasn’t in the house; there was only one man and one woman. This time, they weren’t speaking Astorian.
The woman named Sunny quickly replied, "Is it about Jude?"
"Yeah. He’s pretty useless, but he’s also one of my only remaining relatives, so I hope..."
"I understand, I get it," Sunny said in a knowing tone. "Don’t worry, I’ll go to my brother’s place first thing tomorrow morning!"
"Sunny... thank you!"
Sunny didn’t reply, but soon, intermittent, amorous sounds began to drift from the room.
Paige Summers clenched her fists, a sullen anger brewing inside her.
She wasn’t a nationalist hothead, not by a long shot.
But she had a clear sense of right and wrong.
Rovaria’s leaders had harbored ill intentions toward Astoria since ancient times, and that hadn’t changed even in the apocalypse.
Like before, the riots in Southreach, the attack on Bloodfall, and the base at Mount Gorrow... every single one was the work of the Rovarians.
How could she possibly have a good impression of this country?
She wouldn’t deny that this might not reflect the will of the common people, but to say she held no prejudice at all—to see Rovarians as she would her own countrymen, or no, even as just ordinary strangers—was something she couldn’t do.
She harbored a subtle animosity toward them.
Yet here was a disciple of the Summers Family, together with a Rovarian. Not only that, but he seemed to have completely assimilated... It made her feel exceptionally disgusted!
As the two inside were lost in their passion, Marcus Monroe sighed softly to himself.
Seeing Paige Summers’s rigid posture, he couldn’t help but reach out and stroke her back.
He didn’t have any particularly strong feelings about the matter itself; he just felt for Paige.
He didn’t really want her to waste her energy on these people.
But that was unlikely.
So, he patted her a few times and then made a few hand signals.
Paige Summers nodded slowly.
The pair inside were no match for them in strength to begin with, let alone in their current compromised state. They could never have imagined they would be attacked in their own home. So, when Marcus Monroe and Paige Summers suddenly appeared and subdued them with lightning speed, lust instantly turned to fear, and their naked bodies began to tremble uncontrollably.
Driven by the same impulse, Marcus Monroe and Paige Summers each tossed a piece of clothing over them.
Paige Summers ignored the Rovarian woman and looked directly into Summers Twelve’s eyes. "I’m going to ask you some questions. If you answer them honestly without screaming or shouting, I’ll let this woman live. Otherwise, I’ll kill her! How about it?"
With a blade against his neck, Summers Twelve obviously didn’t dare nod recklessly. He managed to crane his head and force out a single word: "Fine."
"Very good."
As Paige Summers removed the blade, she deftly fed a pill into Summers Twelve’s mouth. Meanwhile, Marcus Monroe had simply and efficiently knocked the woman unconscious.
Summers Twelve shot a quick glance at Sunny before looking away. He didn’t ask what he had been forced to swallow. Instead, he slowly got dressed, then looked up at Paige Summers. "What do you want to ask?"
His composure was admirable, but Paige Summers didn’t like it. It only made her more vigilant.
"Something from a long time ago." She stared at him, getting straight to the point. "Back then, the old master of the Summers Family sent you to guard the island, didn’t he? Why didn’t you return on time to pick everyone up?"
Summers Twelve’s face instantly turned deathly pale.
His entire body began to tremble uncontrollably, and it was a long moment before he spoke. "You... You are..."
Paige Summers was in disguise, so he naturally couldn’t recognize her by her appearance. ’But that question,’ he thought, ’only someone from the Summers Family would ask that.’
Paige Summers sneered, "You just need to answer the question!"
Summers Twelve clenched his jaw for a long moment to still his trembling. Afterwards, he hung his head as if drained of all strength, his entire demeanor deflating.
"Yes, I was one of the disciples sent to guard the island. We couldn’t return in time because a huge storm suddenly blew up at sea... There were twenty-four of us, and we weren’t skilled at handling the ship. We were caught off guard and lost seven of our brothers. Later, the storm ahead was just too severe, so we were forced to turn back... But the ship was sunk anyway. When I woke up, I had drifted here, and I’ve been here ever since. We didn’t have the means to go back, so we had no choice but to stay..."
The story sounded plausible enough.
But Paige Summers knew that while there might be some truth in it, it definitely wasn’t the whole story.
She let out a low laugh and crouched in front of Summers Twelve, lightly tracing his cheek with her dagger. "Even now, you’re still lying. How could the Summers Family have raised a disciple like you..."
’Besides, that face looks so much like Dylan Summers. It’s an insult to him!’
Paige Summers took a deep breath. "For the sake of that face, I’ll give you one last chance. Tell me the whole truth. Otherwise, I would rather kill an innocent man than let a guilty one go free!"
Just then, Summers Twelve’s eyes flew wide open. "You’re Paige! It’s you, isn’t it?!"
