Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 755: Showing Off
Chapter 755: Chapter 626: Showing Off
“Boss Zhang, you’re finally back, oh… are these guests?”
Ding Yong Country saw Zhang Su get out of the car, carrying a metal container slightly thicker than an arm, and walk toward him. Upon closer look, he noticed the unfamiliar face in the passenger seat, and judging from their attire, they didn’t seem like refugees.
At the same time, a few more unfamiliar faces disembarked from the vehicles behind, dressed in a style different from that of the people from Celestial Horse Island.
Having visitors was once quite usual, but in the post-apocalyptic world, it was very sudden.
Zhang Su saw the heavy container in Ding Yong Country’s hand, knowing it was to get fire for steel smelting. He had promised in the morning but forgot in the afternoon.
Smacking his forehead, he said, “Old Ding, you’ve been busy all day, aren’t you planning to take a break?”
Ding Yong Country hadn’t participated in the selection test, he had endless work to do daily. His special skills sufficed to secure a place in the camp, and his martial skills were adequate too. Plus, blacksmithing wasn’t light work; it might even be more intense than the Reserve Corps training.
“Haven’t worked in a while, my hands are itching. Hahaha, not tired at all. By the way, Boss Zhang, I’ve concocted a badass formula that will undoubtedly make the Great Tachi tough and sharp. I just need high-temperature smelting, I heard this thing can fire ferociously, let’s go, hurry and help me smelt it!”
Ding Yong Country leaned towards Zhang Su, proudly patting the heavy iron canister in his hand.
Zhang Su noticed Ding Yong Country was in high spirits, and with Ju Mumio’s expectant look from the side, he nodded, signaling him to wait a moment. Then he turned to the back: “Bozai, entertain the guests at the restaurant; I’ll be there shortly!”
“Oh, sure, this way, please.”
Handling guest hospitality was something Lu Yubo was quite good at.
“Boss Zhang, where do these guests come from? If it’s convenient to share, please do, if not, just pretend I didn’t ask.”
The two headed toward the truck carrying the Fire Zombie, with Ding Yong Country inquiring curiously.
Zhang Su took off his gloves and pulled out a cigarette, handing one to Ding Yong Country, “There’s nothing secretive about it. They came from the Dragon Head Camp in the Mountain and Sea District. There’s a massive horde moving towards Mountain and Sea District, hoping we’ll send troops to help defend.”
“No way, it’s quite far from here to Mountain and Sea District. I imagine it wasn’t peaceful for them on the journey!”
Ding Yong Country recalled the chaotic days and couldn’t fathom the difficulties faced on a trek of dozens of kilometers.
Zhang Su chuckled, saying, “The folks from the big camp have plenty of strategies; they’ve got companions along the way leading zombies away, probably encountered no danger.”
“So, are you planning to send someone to help… never mind, I won’t ask about that, my bad for being nosy, hehe… Oh, by the way, Boss Zhang, that brat was just back, so arrogant, did he really pass the test today afternoon?”
Ding Yong Country suppressed his curiosity and asked about Zheng Ziwen.
“He passed two items, Old Ding, Xiaozheng isn’t as weak as you make him out to be. Are you perhaps pulling my leg? Where is he?”
Zhang Su looked towards the direction of the blacksmith shop, but Zheng Ziwen was nowhere in sight.
“Pulling your leg? That brat’s quite cocky, came back bragging he won’t do blacksmith work anymore, then went inside to rest. Damn, with his nose in the air, I thought he got into the Reserve Corps, turns out it’s the Elite Corps, that little rascal!”
Ding Yong Country seemed upset, but his smile betrayed him.
“Haha, don’t worry, Xiaozheng getting into the Elite Corps means he really won’t have time to help you in the future.”
The Elite Corps not only handled field missions but also had intense training with a packed daily schedule.
While speaking, Zhang Su walked to the cargo truck, handed a cigarette to Wang Longzhong, who was guarding by the car, “Old Wang, tough work.”
“Duty calls, not hard at all, haha, are you here to smelt steel ingots for Master Ding?”
Wang Longzhong had some knowledge about the blacksmithing process.
“Exactly, let me by, mind your safety!”
As they spoke, Zhang Su climbed into the car to start operating.
The fire of a Fire-breathing Zombie wasn’t a joke, rotating the cargo hold towards an open area and letting Ding Yong Country place the welded iron canister on the ground.
Clang, the cargo hold opened up, revealing a zombie covered in flame patterns imprisoned in an I-beam frame. If not for it being a zombie, it might even give off the impression of a flame-king enduring divine punishment.
“Such an overpowering temperature!”
Ding Yong Country peeked at the Fire-breathing Zombie, feeling the heat waves roll, finding it astonishing every time no matter how often he saw it.
The noticeable activity drew a crowd from the camp; with the day’s hustle winding down and everyone unwinding before dinner, they gathered at the commotion.
“Old Ding, this fire is particularly fierce, give a two or three-second headstart when you shout to stop, it takes a moment to retract the fire!”
While addressing Ding Yong Country, Zhang Su input the password, hand gripping the iron chain.
“Roger that, the material’s pretty savage too, not so easy to smelt, haha.”
That said, Ding Yong Country also drew a pair of sunglasses from his pocket, wearing them for better observation through the blaze.
No more words exchanged, Zhang Su pulled the iron chain; after about a two-second delay, a roar erupted from the cargo hold, followed by a fire dragon spewing forth, striking the steel container.
Whoosh, roaring flames…
The Fire-breathing Zombie appeared unaware, yet long-term imprisonment had accumulated its fury, releasing its pent-up anger, a thirty to forty-meter-long blaze lighting up the entire Celestial Horse Island!
The people of the Yama Corps were accustomed to such sights but still enjoyed the spectacle. As long as the Fire-breathing Zombie was controlled by humans, it was a resource for utilization, and a crucial weapon against zombies.
At this moment, the five people, including Shen Linrui, sitting at Little Lucky Restaurant, all looked toward the window, the extraordinary blaze coupled with unusual sounds startling them.
“Brother Lu, what’s that noise?”
Shen Linrui pointed at the fiery window and asked Lu Yubo.
“Oh, it’s nothing, just firing up the blacksmith shop there. Old Pan, I said you’re no spring chicken…”
Lu Yubo knew the situation, casually dismissing it before continuing the chat with Pan Guoliang.
The flame lasted about thirty seconds before Ding Yong Country shouted, “Stop!”
Bang… whoosh.
The hefty metal sheet dropped, cutting off the fire’s release, leaving only an afterglow sweeping past.
Though it wasn’t completely dark yet, once the blaze ceased, the spectators felt engulfed in darkness, with only the red-hot small canister gleaming on the ground.
Ding Yong Country stepped forward, inspecting the canister with iron tongs, shifted angles, then moved outside the car window, “Let’s fire it again for ten, no, eight seconds.”
Whoosh, swoosh…
After several adjustments over three to four minutes, Ding Yong Country walked away contentedly, carrying the glowing container, ecstatic.
“Thank you.”
Ju Mumio, who had stood in the shadows, stepped forward to thank Zhang Su once he jumped down from the vehicle.
“No need to be overly polite, helping you improve is beneficial for the camp; it eases my job. Oh, I gave Teacher Yu your Ju Yihet’s blueprint, asked him to show it to folks in the village below. I’ll inform you if there’s any news.”
Zhang Su told Ju Mumio.
“Thanks a lot, I’ll head to the blacksmith shop to see if there’s anything I can help with.”
Ju Mumio thanked again and turned toward the blacksmith shop. She had heard Zheng Ziwen was so proud after passing the test that he didn’t plan to assist in the blacksmith shop anymore. So, eager to acquire suitable weaponry, she hurried over.
Zhang Su walked towards Little Lucky, intending to inquire further about the Dragon Head Camp, pulling out his walkie-talkie to call Yuwen. But after a thought, he put the walkie-talkie back away.
