Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 738 - 609: How to Communicate?

Everyone knew they couldn’t just stand around watching anymore, so they quickly began to get to work. Zheng Xinyu left the rope with Zhang Su and joined in the hustle.

"You’re in this neither-human-nor-zombie state, wandering outside is definitely not an option. You’ll get shot by other survivors sooner or later. Come back to the camp with us. As long as you listen, I can guarantee your safety!"

Zhang Su had decided; this special zombie definitely needed to be brought back. Special things always have special uses. No need to rush into research, they could develop it slowly later. They were already keeping 003 and the Fire-breathing Zombie, so one more wouldn’t matter.

The female zombie didn’t hesitate at all. She nodded decisively, seemingly having a special trust in Zhang Su.

"Alright, alright, don’t move too much. I’m afraid your head will fall to the ground, and then you’d definitely not survive. Come on, even if you say you can control your body, I still won’t be at ease. You must be tied up."

Zhang Su unfurled the rope, signaling the zombie not to move.

The female zombie obediently complied with Zhang Su’s words, allowing him to tie her up securely. Then he put on two large masks on her.

If you don’t look closely, it’s really hard to believe this is a zombie.

"Hey, this is much better. For our safety and yours, let’s leave it like this for now."

Zhang Su tugged on the other end of the rope and pointed back the way they came: "Come on, you walk first, as fast as you can!"

The female zombie obediently headed west, but unfortunately, no matter how hard she tried, her speed just couldn’t pick up. Her legs wobbled, and the fastest she could go was only a third of Zhang Su’s walking pace, which was extremely frustrating.

"You really are my big sister, but don’t expect me to carry you and run!"

Zhang Su clicked his tongue; the walking speed was just absurd.

"Brother Su, how about... I pull her instead?"

Zhou Haotian passed by Zhang Su and made a suggestion.

Zhang Su walked another few dozen meters, bored out of his mind while acting as a ’zombie whisperer.’ With a tilt of his head, he saw Zhou Haotian dragging a tattered suitcase with a bright look in his eyes: "Come, come, come, quickly! I’m almost tempted to carry her and run."

"No need, come on, Brother Su, I’ll handle it."

Zhou Haotian said, positioning the female zombie securely on top of the suitcase.

"Don’t move, if you do, you’ll fall!" Zhang Su cautioned before waving his hand at Zhou Haotian.

With the suitcase in tow, their speed finally picked up considerably. The female zombie dutifully lay on top of the suitcase without moving, and the two, plus the zombie, quickly caught up with the main group.

"Yo, Brother Su, did you capture a hostage? Haha, and it’s a woman!"

Liu Yao saw Zhang Su and Zhou Haotian returning and teased upon seeing the woman atop the suitcase, grinning from ear to ear.

"Ha... a woman."

Zhang Su chuckled coldly, thinking to himself that this woman could give anyone a real trip!

"You don’t need to worry about this hostage or the suitcase. Just bring the rest back and hand it over to Xiaoshan for storage!"

"Don’t worry, I’ll make sure Director Zhong handles it, won’t pocket a single thing!"

There was no formal appointment, yet in many people’s eyes, Zhong Xiaoshan had become the logistics director. Liu Yao didn’t bother with the hostage situation, gave a lazy salute, and then drove away from the railroad bridge.

"Come, stay put on the side and don’t move. We need to deal with the zombies inside the train, understand?"

After Liu Yao and his team drove off, Zhang Su tied the female zombie to a guardrail and gave her a warning.

The female zombie lazily looked over the carriage, then nodded woodenly in a subdued manner, which seemed much more controlled.

Even for members of the Yama Corps, seeing a calm, living zombie up close was rare. Everyone gathered around like they were visiting a panda, finding it very fascinating.

"Brother Su, I have an immature suggestion. Can I say it?"

"What’s with you... Always so many suggestions and yet immature ones. Can you wait until they mature?"

Zhao Dezhu couldn’t stand the newbie Zhou Haotian, whose mouth was always full of peculiar ideas.

"Haha..." Zhang Su chuckled and waved Zhao Dezhu off, saying, "Zhuzi, you misunderstood him. I recruited him because he’s got a nimble mind with all sorts of unusual thoughts, so don’t worry about it."

"Ha? Is that so? My apologies then, young man, you continue. I’m just a fishmonger with a coarse tongue, hehe..."

Zhao Dezhu, showing he could both bend and stretch, admitted his mistake with a smile.

"Go ahead, don’t worry, we’re all straightforward here and won’t hold back in our conversations, making communication easier!"

Zhang Su reassured Zhou Haotian, who seemed a bit shy.

"I think..."

Zhou Haotian, a bit uneasy, pointed at the female zombie, then at the train: "I think we could let this sister try and see how the zombies react to her, or what influence she might have on them."

Hmm?!

Everyone was initially stunned by these words, then their eyes lit up.

It seemed like a good idea!

Zhang Su let out a noise of intrigue, then looked at the female zombie and asked, "Can you see what’s inside here?"

"Awoo."

The female zombie nodded slightly.

"It seems like there’s no communication between zombies, but I always thought there might be a way for them to communicate. Otherwise, how could they form a horde? Come, give it a try, following this young guy’s suggestion to see what reactions they have to you. Also, see if you can communicate with them!"

Zhang Su released the rope, signaling for people to make way for the female zombie.

This was truly novel. Everyone watched with curiosity on the side.

Scratch, scratch, scratch...

The female zombie staggered to the train window, pressing her withered cheek against the glass. Her blue-grey eyes devoid of emotion, she mechanically scanned the interior, then thudded her head against the glass with a bang.

A not-so-loud noise startled everyone. Instinctively, they reached for their weapons.

Zhang Su gestured to everyone not to act rashly.

Thud, thud, thud...

The female zombie struck the glass three more times.

"It’s happening, there’s a reaction!"

Zhou Haotian, excited, pointed at the now-animated zombies inside the train car.

Previously, Zhang Su had banged on the train car forcibly, and the awakened zombies became agitated, banging on the glass. After being left alone for a while, the zombies calmed down but didn’t return to their dormant state and instead swayed gently inside the car. Now, attracted by the thudding sounds, they slowly gathered toward the window without showing signs of aggression.

After a few seconds, the zombies within the car finally huddled to the other side of the glass, quietly standing there, swaying left and right in rhythm, completely void of any desire to attack.

"Can they not sense us?"

"It shouldn’t be, remember how agitated they were earlier!"

"Haha, maybe they see their kind making friends with us, so they’re friendly too? Nice~!"

"Nice my foot! If that’s the case, do they all have consciousness?"

"Awooo!"

In the midst of their endless debate, the female zombie mechanically turned her head to look at Zhang Su, then pointed to her eyes.

"Are you communicating through eye contact?"

"Awoo."

The female zombie nodded and shook her head, pointing to her head, then her eyes, and finally the zombies inside the train car, seemingly trying to convey a lot of information, but her simple gestures fell short.
