Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 657 - 543: Reunion with Old Friends (Part 2)
"Come, come, the megaphone."
Zhang Su gestured to the person behind him.
"Catch it, big brother!"
Zhao Dezhu caught the portable speaker from Yuwen and tossed it lightly.
"Hello, hello..."
Crack, crack.
Zhang Su tested the mic, then gestured to the three vehicles: "Friends over there, where are you from? What do you want to do?"
After shouting, there was no reaction from the other side, just people glancing at each other, their expressions not very rich.
The Yama Corps were holding rifles, and seeing the strange state of the others, they directly unlocked the safety, ready for combat at any moment.
Qi Xiaoshuai tilted his head and whispered to Pang Dakun: "If those cars suddenly start, shoot that little van on the left."
"Okay, no problem."
Pang Dakun nodded heavily, his face full of caution.
Zhao Dezhu heard the two talking and went to Lu Yubo’s side to discuss their defensive strategy.
Ordinary members felt a full sense of security with over five hundred people moving together, but as elite fighters, members of the Yama Corps were very clear that they could never lower their guard at any time!
"If there’s nothing, you should leave. I won’t make things difficult for you!"
Zhang Su gestured to the vehicles again, the first time side-to-side to indicate a greeting, the second time forward and back, meaning they should go.
Still, there was only mutual staring, no conversation, but the expressions on their faces became more complex.
Are they all a bunch of mutes?
Zhang Su couldn’t help but think sarcastically.
"Brother Su, these guys are really suspicious. Shouldn’t we just control them first?"
Lu Yubo couldn’t hold back; when dealing with fellow humans, he was even more cautious than with zombies, always adhering to the principle of preferring to kill by mistake than let any go.
"The fewer troubles, the better..."
Zhang Su replied softly. At this point, he didn’t want more issues, he just wanted to quickly cross the Chuhai River and return to Celestial Horse Island!
He placed the microphone to his mouth again: "This is the final warning, if you don’t leave, we will take military action!"
As soon as the words "military action" were said, a row of guns was raised: standard rifles, submachine guns, pistols, even makeshift crossbows, and firearms joined the fray. The crossbows were passable, with a range guaranteeing power within forty to fifty meters, but the firearms were a bit ridiculous...
Among them, the funniest was Zheng Ziwen, the nephew of the blacksmith Ding Yong Country. Who knows what he was thinking? Maybe to show bravery, he was holding a knife amid the crowd, looking very serious.
"Could they be ordinary survivors like us?"
"Who is still a special survivor? Whatever the situation, what’s the point of just sitting here?"
"Exactly, if they want a safe haven they should get out of the car, or just turn around and get lost. What’s this about?"
The crowd was buzzing with discussions, very annoyed by the behavior of the three vehicles.
The sky was dark, on one side were more than five hundred people, on the other, only three vehicles with at most twenty to thirty people. From above, it resembled three hundred warriors facing the Persian army...
Grumble.
Just as Zhang Su was about to lose his patience, the seven-seater minivan suddenly shook, then shook again. The other two vehicles’ doors opened, arms raised high, the passengers got out, posing as if surrendering, standing in an orderly row in front of the cars.
Now, it was Zhang Su’s group’s turn to look at each other in bewilderment.
An interesting bunch, either not speaking at all or directly surrendering, and then still not speaking. Is there some rule at their camp that says talking would anger the gods?
"One, two, three... Damn, twenty-eight people squashed into three cars, impressive."
Zhao Dezhu counted with the tip of his gun, looking at the scene with a baffled expression.
The total capacity of the three vehicles was seventeen, and these people each had some supplies, with three or four more squeezed into each car.
Once everyone was out and lined up, a middle-aged man with a leading look stepped forward, hands raised, speaking hoarsely: "Hello friends in front, we are survivors from Niu YaZi, my name is..."
"Ah!"
Suddenly, someone exclaimed by the tank.
The unexpected cry startled many, causing them to turn and look, their expressions odd. The person who made the noise looked friendly, chubby, yet very respected. It was the sniper, Sister Pang, Tan Huajun.
"Old Tan, what are you doing..."
Zhao Dezhu wiped his chest. He was right next to Tan Huajun, who was intensely staring at the opposite side, an unexpected shout echoing in his ear, causing his heart to jump, thinking the battle had started.
Tan Huajun did not respond to Zhao Dezhu. She lowered her gun, furrowing her brows as she looked across.
Due to her shout, the difficult-to-start conversation was interrupted again, leaving those standing awkwardly, unsure what to do.
Zhang Su understood Tan Huajun. She was always emotionally stable, even at the gas station back then, she was relatively calm and composed, able to deal with two zombies alone at the start of the outbreak. Could she be an ordinary woman?
The reason for her such a lapse was not hard to understand; there must be someone familiar among those present!
At a distance of forty to fifty meters, Tan Huajun could see clearly; Zhang Su had no reason not to, but he hadn’t identified any familiar faces, so he asked, "Old Tan, what do you mean?"
"Brother Su..."
Tan Huajun’s facial flesh twitched slightly, her expression odd as she looked at Zhang Su, lowering her gun and pointing across: "Brother Wang, that’s Brother Wang!"
"Brother Wang?"
Everyone present looked puzzled.
"Hey, who is Sister Pang talking about?"
Wu Baokang asked Fruit Man, knowing that Fruit Man, Zhang Xin, had known King Yama for a long time and might know something.
Liu Yao and others also looked at Zhang Xin, but he shook his head in confusion and then angrily said, "How am I missing anything?"
No one paid him any mind...
Li Zongkai looked at Yuwen inquiringly, finding Yuwen equally puzzled, glancing towards Lu Yubo.
Members of the Yama Corps knew that Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan were the first to escape from the neighborhood with Zhang Su, followed by Tan Huajun and Lu Yubo joining the team one after another, and then Yuwen, Yu Qing, and Zhao Dezhu—these were the foundational members.
If Tan Huajun knew and Yuwen didn’t, then it had to be Lu Yubo, and indeed, when Lu Yubo heard Tan Huajun mention Brother Wang, his expression clearly froze.
"Brother Wang, Old Wang?"
Zhang Su frowned, once again looking at the twenty-plus people across, with five female members, the remaining twenty-three being men. Due to their bulky clothes and several months apart, recognizing them by their build was tough, but he really couldn’t identify the former milkman, Wang Guangjun...
"Sixth from the left..."
Tan Huajun’s voice was somewhat low, obvious sorrow showing between her eyebrows, with the corners of her mouth twitching slightly.
"Hmm? This..."
Zhang Su looked where Tan Huajun indicated, and couldn’t help but tremble inside.
The sixth from the left was a gaunt old man who must have experienced something terrible, half of his face severely burnt, disfigured, looking very frightening. No wonder he couldn’t recognize him, but with Tan Huajun’s hint, he noticed one thing!
The burnt man’s crossbody bag. He remembered that dirty bag; the milkman Wang Guangjun had pulled some yogurt from it in exchange for noodles and cigarettes when they escaped from the neighborhood, carrying it all along.
The bag matched, but with half his face ruined and the other half’s skin tugged, it’s really difficult to see Wang Guangjun’s original features.
"Hey, is there anyone by the last name Wang among you?"
Not being able to recognize him was fine; Zhang Su asked directly.
The distant group was silent for three to four seconds, then the twenty-plus lined up all turned their eyes to the sixth on the left.
Seeing their reaction, Zhang Su immediately understood without asking further!
With Tan Huajun’s identification and their confirmation, he breathed a sigh of relief, picked up the microphone, and said loudly: "Old Wang, it’s been months, don’t you recognize my voice anymore?"
The group across was in turmoil, a young man counted as the seventh from the left leaned to the sixth whispering something loud enough.
Others couldn’t hear, but Zhang Su could vaguely make out the words: Dad, the boss over there seems to know you!
"Wow, so tragic?"
Zhang Su frowned and muttered. He slowly blended Wang Guangjun’s image with the person on the other side, observing that his eyesight had declined, with his remaining left eye in a blurred state. Now needing someone to shout into his ear to hear, his hearing must also be bad...
Blind and deaf, how does one survive in the apocalypse like this?
