Chapter 650 - 541: I Just Want to Live Well With You All

"Damn it, bullying me because I didn’t bring a drone. Otherwise, I’d definitely lead them back!"

Wu Lue heard the other side using a drone to lure zombies and jumped up in anger. This was his area of expertise, but unfortunately, he hadn’t expected to encounter such tough times on this trip. The advanced drone was left at the camp, with several sets of batteries still charging...

"You want a drone? We’ve got some, there are two usable reconnaissance drones in the camp, need them?"

Li Zongkai stood nearby and quickly spoke up when he heard they needed a drone.

"What the hell... Brother Su, there’s a new situation, there should be a mutated zombie among the horde. The drone seems to have been attacked and crashed!"

Just like they heard the discussions on this side, as soon as a drone was mentioned, one crashed over there...

Hearing Qi Xiaoshuai’s words, Li Zongkai shook his hand, implying, look at the mess this caused...

Everyone frowned collectively; a mutated zombie that could attack drones remotely was too amazing. No one noticed Chen Hanzhou in the crowd pulling a grimace; if anyone was hoping to encounter a mutated zombie, it was him.

"If there are really a hundred thousand zombies, having a mutated zombie is damn normal. Heck, there might be more than one or two!"

Zhang Su made a quip, then looked at Li Zongkai, pointing northeast and asking, "Old Li, did you guys clear out the wholesale market over there?"

There was a wholesale market about two kilometers northeast of the camp, newly built a few years ago. When it was first completed four or five years ago, business was all right, but it didn’t last long, only a year or two of prosperity before declining.

In the end, they supposedly gave up on rent and only required property fees to use the storefronts. Yet even so, the four-story building had only a few struggling shops left on the first floor.

Zhang Su liked buying things from that wholesale market because the rent was cheap and the prices lower.

"We cleared it out!"

Li Zongkai pointed northeast, "The wholesale market was a key search target for us; it should be quite clean inside. We didn’t corral zombies in there."

"That’s good!" Zhang Su nodded with satisfaction, feeling comfortable talking with intelligent people because he didn’t have to explain much; they understood what he wanted to know.

He picked up the walkie-talkie, "Xiaoshuai, listen carefully. Fall back immediately to the wholesale market you passed earlier. Keep an eye out, and report immediately if you spot the horde approaching!"

According to Zhang Su’s estimation, the view from the wholesale market should cover a range of four to five kilometers. If the horde is visible, it’s less than ten kilometers from the camp, entering a critical zone!

Having instructed Qi Xiaoshuai and Pang Dakun, Zhang Su turned to face everyone, took a deep breath, and said, "We’re not fighting this battle; killing zombies is every human’s damn duty. There’s no reason to clean up others’ messes; everyone’s got responsibility!"

The logic was crude but made sense. After the order, more than twenty people stood up straight. From the back, Ding Yong Country nudged the unresponsive Zheng Ziwen with an elbow, sending him flying more than a meter. Zheng Ziwen rubbed his arm with a wronged expression and stood up properly.

"Immediately get involved in cleaning up and prepare to evacuate the camp!"

Zhang Su waved his hand, and everyone moved on command.

"What... isn’t there a chance for confrontation?"

The combat forces of the Civilization Guardian had just assembled when Wu Daqiang received the retreat order, his face full of disbelief. The combat personnel around him also showed regret, although most were secretly relieved. There are always risks in battles, so avoiding conflict is the best option.

"Confront what, exactly? With a hundred thousand zombies, probably a few hundred big ones, plus mutated zombies capable of knocking drones out of the air. What can confront them? Even the light tanks over there could get squashed!"

Zhao Dezhu didn’t look happy, feeling like he’d swallowed a fly, sick to his stomach.

He wasn’t as rational as Zhang Su or Yuwen, always feeling this horde was an uncalled-for disaster brought over by the Mountain and Sea District to trap people. He thought we should retaliate, and the sooner, the better.

"Um... I heard from Squad Leader Wu, your Celestial Horse Island Yama Corps is pretty strong, having wiped out thousands of zombies before. Don’t you have any special explosives to blow them up again? Why must we retreat?"

One of the surviving soldiers, Gangzi from the camp, was very excited.

"What the hell are you talking about? By the sound of it, you’re saying we’re deliberately withdrawing from here?"

Zhao Dezhu stopped what he was doing, full of anger with nowhere to vent, not expecting someone to hit a sore spot.

"Stay calm, everyone stay calm!"

Yuwen quickly came over to calm things down, "Young man, I remember you; you were a survivor from this camp, and there was another one named... Xiaoliu, who competed in shooting with one of our team’s snipers, right?"

Gangzi, still excited, felt embarrassed to act out after seeing Yuwen’s humble and friendly demeanor, cheeks puffed as he said, "Brother Liu, he... he sacrificed himself during a mission two months ago!"

"That’s truly unfortunate."

Yuwen shook his head sadly and then continued earnestly, "I understand that you both have deep feelings for this place, but please don’t misunderstand us. Mr. Zhang didn’t want to evacuate. The prior plan was to relocate people from the car yard, kindergarten, and Lego Mall here to build a defensive fortress using the camp as a base. Unfortunately..."

At this point, Yuwen paused, looking reluctant before continuing, "Unfortunately, the situation now is too severe, preventing us from implementing our original plan. In this environment, not even King Yama can recklessly gamble with everyone’s lives."
