Chapter 146 108: Impulsiveness Leads to Mistakes
Everyone in the car focused their attention on the companion running back, completely missing the few guys rushing out from the other direction’s darkness.
From the distance and position, Zhang Su was over fifty meters away, while those people were only about thirty meters!
“Someone’s here!”
Zhang Su shouted frantically, pointing at the four people speeding towards the vehicle!
??
Everyone was confused, someone?
“Xiaoshan! Drive!”
Zhang Su shouted, having realized that those four people’s target was the Haranda closest to them.
Without waiting for the others behind, he charged forward at full speed!
“Sister Shanshan, drive!”
“Nurse Zhong, I told you to drive!”
The others running alongside naturally realized the problem too, shouting along with Zhang Su, but since they were already out of breath, their words came out garbled.
“Sister Shanshan, someone’s coming, Brother Su is telling you to drive fast!” Pei Lan, sitting in the back, noticed the sneaky people running over and turned pale.
“This…”
Zhong Xiaoshan understood, instinctively about to step on the gas and turn the wheel, but at that moment, the passenger door was pulled open, followed by the other doors!
“You, ah!”
“What are you doing, uh!”
Everything happened too fast, giving Zhong Xiaoshan and Pei Lan no chance to react; they were pulled from the car.
Zhong Xiaoshan only had time to grab the iron plate hand she carried before being yanked away forcefully, flying off the driver’s seat.
Pei Lan was even worse; the person pulling her was weaker, practically dragging her out, causing painful injuries on her hands.
“Damn you bastards!”
Only Lu Yubo stood outside, but by the time he reacted, Zhong Xiaoshan and Pei Lan had already been thrown to the ground. He rushed forward, trying to reclaim the car, but the Haranda roared, doors barely closed, heading straight for the curb.
At this moment, a swoosh sound rang out. A crossbow arrow shot from the passenger window of the H6, aiming at the Haranda, with Tan Huajun awkwardly lying inside, shooting a chasing arrow.
The Haranda had just crossed the curb; its left rear wheel was still hanging in the air, and it hadn’t even accelerated, moving only seven or eight meters per second at most. Meanwhile, the crossbow arrow’s speed exceeded a hundred meters per second, easily catching up!
Puff.
The crossbow arrow pierced the Haranda’s rear windshield, embedding inside the car, only spider web cracks appearing on the rear glass without shattering it.
“Bozai, don’t chase. Go back and drive!”
Zhang Su reached Zhong Xiaoshan, picking her up, and looked back towards Yi Rewen’s direction. Yuwen and others had arrived close by, and the zombies weren’t too far, at most forty or fifty meters away, slightly better than before. The biggest victory was all cars starting, drivers in position!
“Pei Lan, get in Bozai’s car, quickly!”
After instructing, Zhang Su dragged Zhong Xiaoshan towards the van.
The van’s passenger door was already open, Zheng Xinyu frantically waved, shouting: “Hurry, quick, the passenger seat can fit!”
Luckily, the two in the Haranda were quite slim, so even though they wore a lot, squeezing wasn’t a big issue; mainly, they hadn’t had time to replenish supplies from Yi Rewen!
Without further incident, everyone got into the car.
Zhang Su’s van was the fastest, leading the charge.
Just when Tan Huajun and Lu Yubo thought he would chase the Haranda, the van sped in the opposite direction, heading towards the dry-cleaning shop.
Meanwhile inside the Haranda, the situation was dire.
“Xiaoteng can’t stop the bleeding, what should we do?”
A man in the backseat clutched his right chest, blood oozing through his fingers, face pale and breathing rapidly.
“Hold it, hold it! Damn it, what can I do now! Damn it, why did you have to look, damn it, damn!”
The man driving was extremely temperamental, his bloodshot eyes fixated on the road.
If Xiaoteng had just sat quietly before, instead of getting up to look back, he never would have been shot!
“Huff, huff… Damn it, just shut up, it’s not like I wanted to get shot. Who the hell would have thought that group actually had crossbows, damn it, we really shouldn’t have tried to hijack the vehicle!”
Xiaoteng spoke with difficulty, his expression pained as he felt the blood loss, a sign that life was slipping away.
“If I’d known they were so well-equipped, who the hell would have messed with them, damn!” said Brother Ze, full of unwillingness.
The power of the crossbow was no less than an ordinary handgun, it was like getting hit with a downgrade strike for them.
“Brother Ze, those people don’t seem to be chasing us. Shouldn’t we stop to treat Xiaoteng’s wound? Otherwise, he’s in real danger!”
The woman in the passenger seat said anxiously.
Brother Ze gritted his teeth, looking through the rearview mirror, and indeed saw no sign of the three vehicles, so he stopped in the middle of the road and said, “Xiaojie, see if there’s any first aid supplies in the car, Dachao and I will go deal with the zombies and check the pharmacy over there!”
…
Zhang Su naturally didn’t know that Tan Huajun’s arrow had almost taken someone’s life. He drove towards Yihe Car Shop seriously, his face showing no joy or sorrow, as if a car hadn’t just been hijacked.
“Brother Su, aren’t we going after the Haranda?”
After losing sight of the pursuing zombies from behind, Zheng Xinyu asked her lingering question.
Zhang Su pouted and said, “Of course I want it, but in such a situation we can’t chase after them. We just got attacked by a horde of zombies, recklessly fled, and then ran into someone hijacking our car. I haven’t completely calmed down yet, and in this state, something bad could easily happen!”
“We can’t possibly figure out who those people are. Who can guarantee they’re not survivors from a settlement collecting resources? What if we’re rash and fall into their trap?”
Zhong Xiaoshan and Zheng Xinyu squeezed into the front passenger seat, awkwardly rubbing their bruised hips, agreeing, “Brother Su is right. Resources are important, but we were too passive just now, and we don’t know the condition of those people. Plus, there were zombies chasing us, so escaping danger is more important.”
“That’s right. Damn… why is the dog in my car?”
As he spoke, Zhang Su suddenly noticed that the bag carrying the Corgi was placed on top of a box of self-heating rice meals in the back…
“I’ve been carrying it all along!”
Zheng Xinyu responded naturally.
“Oh well… Was there anything important on the Haranda? Wasn’t the generator in that car?” Zhang Su asked, somewhat frustrated.
Zhong Xiaoshan shook her head and said, “The generator is on the H6, but Old Tan’s toolbox is gone. The rest are resources we packed from the gas station, mostly water.”
“Toolbox, water…”
Zhang Su muttered softly, just in time to see a hardware store by the roadside, and he turned towards it. Before leaving the city, it’s not difficult to gather some ordinary tools.
Three vehicles gradually came to a stop. The group got out and dealt with a few pursuing zombies, then gathered around the van.
“Don’t ask why we’re not chasing the Haranda; I’m afraid of falling into those guys’ trap!”
Zhang Su saw a few people hesitating to speak, knowing what they wanted to ask, and directly explained.
“Alright then…” Lu Yubo scratched his face awkwardly.
Zhao Dezhu’s face turned red with anger, “Catch those bastards, I’ll skin them alive!”
“You two are too impulsive, always thinking about revenge. Look at Mr. Zhang, that’s the kind of calm and collected demeanor a leader should have!”
Yuwen frowned at the two. Earlier in the car, he heard them cursing all the way and wished he could throw the earwax shaken out of his ears at them.
“Let’s not talk about those people anymore! Old Tan, I’m sorry to tell you, your toolbox is gone. Go and find some replacements at the hardware store. Also, the Haranda had quite a bit of water on it, so everyone scour the street and only replenish water. Regroup in five minutes, be sure to stay safe, and remember how to avoid Old Liu’s zombie ambushes. Move!”
Having said this, Zhang Su headed to a dumpling shop behind him first.
This was a small road between a group of buildings with two lanes each way. If vehicles parked carelessly on both sides, it would be difficult to pass in the middle. Perhaps because the street was relatively quiet, the road conditions were good, with no vehicle accidents reported.
In less than a quarter of an hour, everyone returned to the car with someone carrying an armful of bottled water, while others had plastic bags full of various drinks. The harvest was not bad.
Tan Huajun found a large toolbox in the hardware store, with obvious signs of use. Both the box and tools were covered in black oil, but this toolbox was more comprehensive and richer than the previous set, able to handle more situations!
The group filled the trunk with stored supplies, but no matter what, the carried resources were still less than what they had with four vehicles earlier. But this is a situation they could not avoid.
On the road again, everyone’s mood was slightly lighter with the replenishment of supplies.
