Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 122 98: Strange Corpse Horde

The four vehicles slowly advanced down a desolate street, much like the ill-fated destiny awaiting them. The wheels inevitably rolled over corpses when avoidance was impossible, and occasionally collided with zombies that lunged at the front of the vehicles. Each car showed various degrees of scraping and bumping but remained unaffected in its normal driving.

They arrived once again at an intersection, and the street blocking their path ahead was Construction Road, where the Yileiwen Convenience Store was located.

Zhang Su naturally turned right onto a road that, in the past, he would traverse twice daily. But regrettably, it now appeared unfamiliar.

As he was making the right turn, he instinctively glanced to his left, like checking for oncoming traffic. This glance was concerning, causing him to tremble in fear.

He was heading west toward the intersection, while to the east, about two to three hundred meters away, countless zombies congregated, densely crowded and filling the entire lane, even the sidewalks!

The whole street was blocked by zombies, like sardines in a can. The scariest part was not the sheer number but the fact that the swarm of zombies was moving!

Moving toward him!

“What the hell is going on…?”

Zhang Su almost shouted. He wanted to stop and examine the situation with the zombies more closely, but the noise from the vehicles had attracted numerous zombies nearby too. Stopping would mean dealing with those surrounding zombies first, and triggering a chain reaction could be disastrous!

Reluctantly, Zhang Su had to suppress his damn curiosity and drive forward.

Apart from Zhang Su, others in the convoy also noticed the unusual situation, heightening the already tense atmosphere.

“Why are the zombies gathering? There’s nothing attracting them; otherwise, it wouldn’t be at that speed…”

Zhang Su couldn’t help but ponder. Unfortunately, he wasn’t a zombie, and after much thought, he couldn’t find any clues other than attributing it to zombie instinct.

“Let them gather, but why are they moving? Could it be like locusts? When the group reaches a certain number, the individuals… huh?”

In the midst of his thoughts, Zhang Su suddenly noticed a familiar figure curled up on the sign of a hot pot restaurant beside the road.

“Wu Lue?!”

Zhang Su involuntarily shouted.

This trip to the Yileiwen Convenience Store was mainly to get weapons, but he also hoped to see Wu Lue and Zhao Xue. He never imagined he’d encounter Wu Lue on the street four or five hundred meters away from the convenience store, and his state was peculiar.

Zhang Su quickly assessed the surrounding situation, discovering that zombies had crowded around the hot pot restaurant’s entrance within a few dozen meters’ range, each like a hellish demon reaching up, eager to grab down that vibrant life sitting on the sign!

“Dammit! What’s wrong with this kid, can’t he hear the sound of the car?”

Zhang Su frowned silently, hesitating whether to rescue him or not. After thinking for two or three seconds, he decided to save Wu Lue.

With that thought, he signaled a left turn, surprising the drivers behind him as he steered up onto the curb.

“What the heck… holy crap, Brother Su is crazy!”

Lu Yubo, at the end of the convoy, watched the cars in front turn one by one and instinctively followed by steering. He saw Zhang Su’s van suddenly accelerate toward the dozen or so zombies at the restaurant’s entrance!

Bang bang bang…

Zhang Su floored the gas pedal, and the zombies at the entrance, like bowling pins, were knocked over and askew!

Thud!

Something unexpected happened to Zhang Su—the veteran van finally deployed its airbags during this collision, filling the cabin with white powder…

“Pff, huh huh… Dammit, Luezi, you owe me a car!”

Zhang Su spat out a mouthful, though the sodium azide was tasteless and non-toxic; in the mouth, it was still unpleasant.

He was about to turn around and hit the zombies again when he noticed they had mostly fallen to the ground, unable to move.

It turned out Zhong Xiaoshan saw Zhang Su driving into the zombies, so she mimicked his action and crashed into them too. Subsequently, the H6 and Prado behind followed suit, and the scene was quickly cleared.

“How in sync we are with our own people!”

Zhang Su grinned, and then furrowed his brows as he noticed Wu Lue, still curled up on the sign, hadn’t reacted at all?

“Dammit, my airbag went off and this guy is still daydreaming!”

He firmly braked the car to a stop, grabbed an axe, and jumped out.

Several people from the other three vehicles also got out, and everyone displayed great synchronization as they finished off any zombies not dead.

“Wu Lue! What’s wrong with you, hey!”

Zhang Su dealt with a zombie and waved to Wu Lue under the sign of the hot pot restaurant, but Wu Lue remained oblivious.

Seeing Zhang Su’s actions, the others realized he knew the man above, who was in a stupor.

They understood Zhang Su’s character; he wouldn’t rescue someone without reason. Since he specifically stopped to save Wu Lue, there must be some importance.

Sitting on the sign, Wu Lue’s eyes were empty, his face smeared with all sorts of dirt, and his hair and clothes unkempt. If Zhang Su hadn’t had regular dealings with him, he wouldn’t recognize the person.

“Brother Su… what’s wrong with him?”

Zheng Xinyu curiously asked.

“Scared stiff, maybe…”

Zhang Su glanced around, picked up a few stones from the ground, and hurled them toward Wu Lue.

Crack.

A stone struck Wu Lue’s head, and with a hiss, he looked down, eyes suddenly lighting up. He was about to speak but got so agitated he lost balance, tumbling straight down.

“Oh my god!” Zhao Dezhu, quick on his feet, stepped forward alongside Zhang Su to catch the falling Wu Lue.

The two supported Wu Lue to stand firmly on the ground.
