Chapter 120 97: The Shadow Is Everywhere
The car drove less than two hundred meters away from the gas station before Zhang Su stopped in front of a relatively intact pharmacy, calling everyone to get out and gather medicine. They quickly filled several large boxes, which made the already limited space in the car even more cramped. They even had to tie two boxes of snacks onto the roof rack of the Prado.
Out of the four vehicles, only Zhang Su was driving alone, while the other cars were filled with people, making interaction inevitable.
The atmosphere inside the Haranda was the warmest and most harmonious. Pei Lan was sitting awkwardly in the back with all sorts of supplies piled around her. She glanced at Zheng Xinyu, who was petting a dog in the front seat, with a somewhat strange expression.
“Sister Xinyu, Sister Shanshan, actually, I’ve always had a question…”
Pei Lan began nervously.
Zhong Xiaoshan, who was driving, brushed her messy hair and said, “You’re wondering about our situation with Zhang Su, right?”
She knew very well that when women talk, it’s always about gossip. Even with zombies running rampant outside, women’s passion for gossip couldn’t be stopped.
Sure enough, hearing Zhong Xiaoshan’s words, Pei Lan smiled somewhat naively and asked, “Are you really that kind of relationship with Brother Su?”
“What’s so strange about that?” Zhong Xiaoshan turned the corner with the van and said casually, “But Sister Xinyu came first, so I can only be Brother Su’s lover.”
“Actually, it’s not by much. I’ve been renting with Zhang Su for almost a year, and it wasn’t until the disaster broke out that I realized he was the actual owner of the house. He pretended to be a tenant to rent with me, and I strongly suspect he kept his distance from me just to collect rent.”
Zheng Xinyu’s big eyes shone mischievously.
Pei Lan was dumbstruck. What a bizarre situation. What’s with men these days, preferring rent money over a beautiful girl?
If she realized that beautiful girls were even more worthless in the apocalypse, she would probably break down.
“Oh my, Sister Xinyu, I can’t believe it…”
“Don’t believe it? Humph, let me tell you, before the disaster, the landlord—Zhang Su—pretended to be the landlord and texted me that rent was going up by ten percent the following year, just because I mentioned I had gotten used to living there and didn’t want to move, even if the rent increased. It made me so mad!”
Zheng Xinyu was frustrated in her heart, kneading the Corgi’s head vigorously, the poor little thing enduring undue pressure while unconscious.
“Oh my, Brother Su is really… Well, no wonder someone his age already has his own house. His mind is indeed not ordinary!” Zhong Xiaoshan laughed, shaking her head.
Pei Lan also covered her mouth to chuckle, then sighed and said, “I really envy you, sisters. You’re amazing. You’re not afraid of fighting zombies at all. How do you do it? Can you teach me?”
“Oh, speaking of that, we really have to thank Zhang Su…” Zheng Xinyu shrugged and said, “On the first day, he was like a madman taking me to kill zombies. I was so scared I vomited, almost hurling my entire stomach out!”
Zheng Xinyu vividly recounted her past experiences, filled with joy from not having chatted openly with someone for so long.
Zhong Xiaoshan also shared some of her experiences, and the atmosphere inside the car was very harmonious.
However, inside the H6 driven by Tan Huajun, it was a completely different story. As soon as they got in the car, Chen Hanzhou and Song Yijun began a heated argument, and Kuang Miao’s efforts to mediate had no effect; the atmosphere was somewhat tense.
Song Yijun thought Zhang Su was too authoritarian and ruthless, crossing the basic moral line, and urged the others to leave when they found the chance. He even persuaded Tan Huajun to leave with them.
Chen Hanzhou had completely changed his perspective, believing Zhang Su’s principles were perfectly fine. He thought they were now back in a survival-of-the-fittest primitive society and that they should abandon their old morals and values to establish new ones and live better.
Kuang Miao didn’t express any opinions at all, merely urging the two to say less…
Tan Huajun drove the vehicle without glancing sideways, the road conditions were extremely complicated, not allowing for any distractions. However, she kept all their conversations in mind, planning to find a time to secretly tell Zhang Su.
The most interesting of all was the inside of the Prado driven by Lu Yubo, where he chatted with the Fish Slaughterer, Zhao Dezhu. The two got along well, their conversation ranging wildly from the South Pole to the North Pole, and from the Mariana Trench to the top of Mount Everest.
“Zhuzi, you wouldn’t believe it. There was this idiot who told us this disaster was caused by aliens. Isn’t that brain damage, hahahaha.”
“Gee, young man, don’t say that. I’ve thought about it too, and I also think it might be related to aliens. These things happening can’t be explained with Earthly knowledge, can they?”
“Well, true, it can’t be explained. But you can’t just throw it onto aliens’ heads when science doesn’t have answers.”
Yuwen supported Yu Qing and couldn’t help but join in the conversation, saying, “Gentlemen, have you ever paid attention to the news about space?”
“Space? No…” Lu Yubo only cared whether women were in the nude, not outer space.
Zhao Dezhu also shook his head in disapproval.
Yuwen adjusted his glasses and said, “Some time before the outbreak, I don’t remember the exact date — about a week or so, I saw some space news on a reputable overseas website. It talked about a cigar-shaped celestial body leaving the Solar System, causing a stir among experts.”
“Damn, experts like to get startled over nothing. Even if there’s nothing, they can still be shocked. There are so many stars in the sky. What’s so strange about something leaving the Solar System?” Zhao Dezhu shook his head dismissively.
