Chapter 104: Chapter 89: Student Squad (End of the 10,000 Daily Updates—No Chapter Today)_2

Zhang Su raised his hand to signal.

Kuang Miao quickly called to the people around him, “Hurry, everyone take out the stuff from your bags and let Brother Su pick; hurry up.”

With a swish, the four of them took out the contents of their backpacks, but the result left Zhang Su and the others very disappointed.

“Seriously, is this all you brought for escaping? Hahaha…”

Zhang Su squatted down and rummaged through their stuff, which made him laugh.

“Phones, chargers, tablets, headphones, another set of headphones, a Polaroid camera, a notebook… and damn, a makeup bag? This is… well, this at least is somewhat useful.”

The four backpacks were completely devoid of anything edible, only items that might come in handy in specific situations but were mostly useless.

“Brother Su, this… this Apple notebook is newly bought, worth ten thousand bucks; can I trade it for some food and water? Can’t I?”

The girl squatted down, picked up a notebook computer adorned with pretty stickers, and handed it to Zhang Su, looking pitiful.

“Little sister, the value of items isn’t calculated like that now,” Zhong Xiaoshan shook her head helplessly and said, “Can you guess what I exchanged for two packs of instant noodles and two packs of river snail rice noodles? A Haranda, just collected early this year, costing over three hundred thousand once it hit the road.”

Zhong Xiaoshan answered herself, hoping this group of students would quickly understand the world they were in, though she deliberately didn’t mention with whom she traded to avoid leaving a bad impression of Zhang Su.

“This…”

The four students were instantly stunned. The exact value of a Haranda might not be clear, but they understood three hundred thousand perfectly well!

“Which bastard is so wicked? Is this still human?”

Chen Hanzhou clenched his fists with righteous indignation.

Zhang Su felt awkward, while Zheng Xinyu nearly burst into laughter with puffed-up cheeks.

“Hey, hey, hey, don’t mention unnecessary stuff; the person she traded her Haranda with was me. At that time, she was just two hours away from fainting from hunger. What is a Haranda worth? Now she’s entirely mine!”

The four students looked at each other in shock; this was a real eye-opener for them. Little did they know that even more shocking things were yet to come.

Zheng Xinyu, refusing to back down, looked at Zhang Su and asked, “And what about me? What about me?”

Usually, she and Zhong Xiaoshan got along peacefully and helped each other in dangerous times, but she would never yield an inch in certain matters.

“You’re mine too!”

Zhang Su smiled and pinched Zheng Xinyu’s cheek. If anyone in this world was still close to him, besides Zheng Xinyu, it was probably the two convenience store employees whose fates were still unknown.

He treasured this rare familiarity.

“Wha…what!?”

The four of them nearly screamed but managed to restrain themselves, knowing that loud noises would attract zombies.

The three boys exchanged glances, showing complex emotions like shock, disbelief, and envy.

The girl, Pei Lan, blinked her wide eyes repeatedly, her small mouth agape.

“What, what, don’t make a fuss; honestly, your electronic products aren’t entirely useless, but you absolutely can’t trade them for food!”

Zhang Su patted his backpack and said, “I have over twenty phones of all brands just in my bag! But I now have a way to get you a full meal. First, let me ask: have you ever killed a zombie?”

Their spirits lifted immediately upon hearing the prospect of a full meal from Zhang Su, though the last question left them momentarily speechless.

Kuang Miao sheepishly said, “Uh, Brother Su, we’ve sort of killed a zombie—bashed its head a few times and stabbed it in the stomach; it shouldn’t have survived.”

“Brother Su, just tell us what to do. We’ll do anything as long as we can have a full meal!”

Chen Hanzhou wiped the tears from his face and said.

“Hey, you’ve got some spirit. What’s your name?” Zhang Su looked at this boy, who was both tearful and brave, quite amused.

“I’m Chen Hanzhou! If we need to kill zombies, we can do it!” Chen Hanzhou gritted his teeth and said.

“If you can kill zombies, finding food outside should be easy; why stick with us then?”

Zheng Xinyu asked curiously.

Kuang Miao sheepishly scratched his head and said, “Just my gut feeling that you guys are very experienced and awesome; following your lead seems safer than us blindly trying ourselves.”

Zhang Su smirked slightly, thinking that the mindset of students was different from people in society, simple and direct, making for a pleasant conversation.

“Safety is something I can’t guarantee; death is a constant risk. Aren’t you afraid I’ll just sell you guys out?” Zhang Su asked playfully.

“No way!” Kuang Miao shook his head firmly and smiled, “Brother Su, you seem like a really upright person; it’s impossible you’d screw us over! Right?”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“Of course, no doubt about it!”

“Pffft.”

“Hahahaha…”

Finally, Zheng Xinyu and Lu Yubo couldn’t hold back their laughter.

Tan Huajun and Zhong Xiaoshan pressed their lips tightly, their bodies slightly shaking as they tried hard to suppress their laughter.

“See, see, see how cultured people think I’m so great and righteous. You lot should take notes!” Zhang Su said fiercely to the people around him.

“Yes…”

They replied with a sarcastic tone.

“Cough, cough! Enough with the jokes,” Zhang Su said seriously. “Kuang Miao, right? Are you their leader?”

“Well, not really a leader; I just love to direct in team games, so they picked me as captain.” Kuang Miao habitually scratched his head, smiling shyly.

Zhang Su nodded and said, “Good, having a commander is key! Did you see the gas station across the street on your way in?”

The four of them nodded in unison.

“This Sister Pang used to work at the convenience store in the gas station; the supplies in there are plentiful: food, drinks, you name it. There are over a hundred packs of cigarettes alone. If we can take over the gas station, you can grab anything you can carry from the store!”

Zhang Su drew a dazzling and colorful picture for them.

“Actually… we thought about going to the gas station convenience store before, but Brother Su, the place is crawling with zombies, you can’t even count them all!”

Kuang Miao expressed with a face full of expressions and gestures.

“Nonsense!” Zhang Su clicked his tongue. “You don’t think the convenience store would just be wide open, waiting for us to take stuff, do you? If it were that easy, it wouldn’t be our turn! Of course, we need to think of ways to get in!”

“Let’s do this, this, and this…”

Then, Zhang Su explained his previously drafted plan to them.

“What? Luring the zombies away?”

When Kuang Miao and the others learned of Zhang Su’s plan, they were instantly dumbfounded.

The previously deceased companions were killed because they provoked the zombies… they were scared of the zombies, but now they are asked to lure them away?

“Brother, Brother Su, it’s not a matter of whether we can do this; it’s a matter of sending us to our deaths!”

Kuang Miao’s face showed a constipated expression, feeling like the other side was joking.

Zhang Su scoffed: “You call this a death sentence? Then there’s no need for cooperation between us; it’s a wide road, so go your own ways, please.”

Without courage or strength, they’re just dead weight.

Lu Yubo cooperatively gestured toward the door with a standard see-off posture, as he had often done in the pool hall for big shots.

The four students looked grim; they thought they were brave for escaping the university, but never imagined the outside world could be this insane.

“Sigh, little juniors and sisters, in times like these, you risk your life to fill your belly. Without you, we’d still go to the gas station, but then you would miss out!”

Zheng Xinyu spoke arrogantly, as if she were an upperclassman since she’d be a senior in college if not suspended.

Zhong Xiaoshan nodded and said, “Survivors are no different from primitive people now; we have to be wary of being hunted by zombies and also hunt for food, which is very precious!”
