Apocalypse: Rebirth With An Infinite Storage System
Chapter 319: Get lost.
It’s alright, Aunt Clara. You’re safe now,” she reassured her in a warm voice. “You don’t have to be afraid anymore. Nobody is going to take you away from us again.”
Fuck! What kind of gun is that?” one of the fleeing soldiers murmured under his breath, his face pale with terror as he glanced back at the battlefield. “It’s blowing people’s heads off instantly! What the hell are we supposed to do against something like that?”
“Run! Just run!” another soldier . Nobody is going to take you away from us again.”, abandoning any thought of rescuing his commander. “We’re all going to die if we stay here!”
The surviving Kforce soldiers scattered, desperate to escape with their lives.
Meanwhile, their commander remained on the ground, bleeding heavily from his injuries. His face had become pale, and his breathing was growing increasingly labored as he struggled to endure the unbearable pain.
“Please, don’t leave me!” he cried, stretching out a trembling hand toward his fleeing subordinates. “Come back here, you bastards! Where the fuck are you going? Come back and help me!”
However, none of them turned around.
The very men who had laughed alongside him when he threatened Ivy were now abandoning him without a second thought. Their own survival had suddenly become far more important than their loyalty to their commander.
“Come back, you bastards!” he screamed again, his voice cracking with desperation. “You can’t leave me here! I’m your commander!”
His cries gradually faded into painful groans as he watched their figures disappear into the distance.
The survivors Ivy had rescued, on the other hand, could barely bring themselves to look at the gruesome scene unfolding before them. They had already endured more suffering than they could have imagined, and the sight of so much blood only made their hearts sink further.
Some had quickly covered their eyes with their hands, while others turned their faces away, unable to stomach the sight of the fallen soldiers. A few of the women pulled the children close to their bodies, shielding them from the horrifying scene as best they could.
They had witnessed enough cruelty during their captivity. The last thing they wanted was to keep watching people die in front of them.
“Chase after the fleeing soldiers and make sure you catch them!” Ivy announced, her voice ringing with authority as she turned toward her men. Her expression had become serious again, and the playful mockery she had shown moments earlier was nowhere to be seen.
“Don’t let any of them escape. Once you catch them, kill them all!”
She paused briefly, allowing her orders to sink in before continuing.
“I’ll reward anyone who brings their heads back with sacks of rice. Yes, you heard me correctly. I want to see their heads, so make sure you bring them back to me!”
“Yes, Captain Ivy!” her soldiers chorused in unison.
Without wasting another second, they immediately took off in the direction the Kforce soldiers had fled. Their footsteps gradually faded into the distance as they pursued the escaping enemies, determined to carry out their captain’s orders.
Once the soldiers had left, Ivy turned her attention toward the rescued survivors. However, before she could say anything, a familiar voice suddenly rang out beside her.
“Captain Ivy? You’re Captain Ivy?”
Aunt Clara stared at her with wide eyes, as though she had only just begun to understand what she was hearing. Her expression was filled with disbelief, and for a moment, she seemed unable to find the right words to express her emotions.
The next second, she stretched out her hands toward Ivy.
“I found you!”
Seeing the woman’s reaction, Ivy immediately bent down and knelt to her height. She gently placed her hands on Aunt Clara’s shoulders, a warm smile spreading across her face as she looked into the older woman’s tear-filled eyes.
“Yes, it’s me, Aunt Clara,” Ivy replied softly. “I know it’s been a while since you last saw me. And, of course, you don’t normally see very well without your glasses, but it’s really me.”
She chuckled lightly, reaching out to hold Aunt Clara’s hands.
“I’m right here, Aunt Clara. You’ve found me, and you’re safe now.”
“Oh, my goodness, Ivy!”
Aunt Clara burst into tears the moment she heard those reassuring words. She immediately pulled Ivy into a tight embrace, wrapping her arms around the younger woman’s shoulders as though she were afraid that Ivy might disappear if she loosened her grip.
“I can’t believe it’s really you!” she cried, her voice breaking with emotion. “I thought I would never see you again. I thought I was going to die without ever getting the chance to see you again!”
She continued sobbing as she held Ivy close, gently patting her back while trying to release the overwhelming emotions she had kept bottled up for so long.
Ivy returned the embrace, gently rubbing Aunt Clara’s back in an attempt to comfort her.
