Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One
Chapter 533 - 542: Those Who Came to Help Miles Sanctus
Chapter 533: Chapter 542: Those Who Came to Help Miles Sanctus
Come to think of it, she and Evan Sterling had never feuded in her past life. He was one of the few members of the Sterling Family who hadn’t mistreated her, simply because she had never even met him.
But in this life, her rebirth had changed many things. He had sought her out, and that whole series of events had followed.
And the Evan Sterling of now was also hell-bent on seeing her dead. He just wasn’t capable enough and was destined to fall at her hands.
She chuckled softly. ’Looks like I’m just not fated to have close family ties in this life.’
Her adoptive parents didn’t like her. When she returned to her biological family, not a single person there liked her either.
In fact, every last one of them wished she were dead.
In her past life, they had ruined her. But in the end, she had repaid the debt she owed them for giving her life.
And in this life, they were once again full of schemes against her, but ultimately, they all failed at her hands.
’This is fate...’
Stella Sterling stood up straight, her expression turning cold in that moment. "Finish the job. Make sure he’s truly gone. Then bury him."
He’d managed to escape by faking his death last time. Stella Sterling wouldn’t fall for the same trick twice.
Black Swan rarely saw such bone-deep coldness from her master. She froze for a moment, then nodded.
She dragged Evan Sterling to the side and put a few more shots into him for good measure.
After confirming he was well and truly dead, she and a few others buried Evan Sterling’s body.
’She couldn’t understand what her master was thinking. The master clearly had no feelings for this brother of hers, so why order them to bury him? Plenty of people had died at the hands of Caeluna Base, but they’d never been required to bury them before.’
Stella Sterling muttered to herself, "There. I’ve reunited your loving little family. In your next life, try not to run into me again."
The group rested for a while. Many of them were injured, so Stella Sterling directed the Caeluna Base personnel to treat their wounds.
Since she had taken these people under her wing, they were now her own. Stella Sterling wouldn’t be stingy with them.
She showed the Caeluna Base members how to bandage the wounds, then left them to it.
Once everything was taken care of, the group left the area and headed into Veridia.
After such a massive earthquake, there was no telling what condition Veridia was in.
’And...’
Stella Sterling glanced at the still-unconscious Hunter Night.
She shook her head. ’I wonder what happened to the others from the Three Tigers Corps.’
「Not long after Stella Sterling and her group had left」
A tall, heavily injured man emerged from the other side of the Sanctyr Base ruins.
The earthquake had now subsided. He sat in an empty clearing, staring back at the devastation with a dazed look in his eyes.
’It’s gone. Sanctyr Base is gone, just like that.’
Miles Sanctus’s expression was numb, his thoughts a complete blank.
He tore a strip from his tattered clothes and crudely bandaged his wounds.
Suddenly, his expression sharpened as he whipped his head toward a certain direction. "Who is it? Get the hell out here!"
"Impressive. As expected, you’re still on high alert even now."
A gentle, refined voice drifted from behind Miles Sanctus and to his left.
Miles Sanctus glanced back, his eyes full of surprise and suspicion. ’I heard something, but I couldn’t tell where it came from.’
He stared at the man standing a short distance away. The man was dressed in loose-fitting casual wear and had a gentle, jade-like temperament.
He was completely unlike anyone else in this post-apocalyptic world.
He narrowed his eyes, studying the man. For some reason, his instincts screamed that this man was extremely dangerous.
The man appeared harmless, but the moment Miles saw him, alarm bells started blaring in his mind.
He forced his aching body to its feet, took two steps back, and watched the man warily. "Who are you? What do you want?"
Seeing Miles Sanctus’s guarded stance, a flicker of amusement crossed the man’s eyes. "What a rare sight. It’s not every day one gets to see you in such a pathetic state."
Hearing the man’s tone, Miles Sanctus’s brow furrowed deeply. ’Who the hell is this guy? He talks as if he knows me well! But I’m certain I don’t know him.’
He gave the man a cold, wary look. "Who are you? I don’t know you."
He was injured and his movements were hindered. This man, however, gave off an extremely dangerous aura. If they were to clash now, he would be at a clear disadvantage.
Miles Sanctus’s expression soured. ’I thought I’d finally escaped with my life, only to fall into someone else’s clutches?’
He refused to accept it. Sanctyr Base may have been destroyed today, but he wasn’t finished. He still had other trump cards to play.
As long as he could get through this, he would be back on his feet in no time.
But the appearance of this man was something he had not foreseen at all.
Seeing his defensive posture, the man chuckled. "Don’t be so tense. I mean you no harm. I’m here to help."
Miles Sanctus didn’t believe a word of it. ’We’re strangers. Some guy I’ve never met suddenly appears, seemingly looking specifically for me, and claims he’s here to help?’
That didn’t make Miles Sanctus feel fortunate; it only made him feel like he was in even greater danger.
Seeing his reaction, the man shook his head and said with a hint of resignation, "I was planning to find you and propose a partnership, but I didn’t expect this... incident. It’s odd. According to the original trajectory, this shouldn’t have happened. Could there have been an unexpected variable?"
"But it doesn’t matter. I’ve found you now, so the outcome remains the same."
Miles Sanctus found the man’s words utterly baffling. He couldn’t make any sense of them.
He watched the man with a mix of anxiety and suspicion. ’Has some lunatic escaped and decided to spout nonsense at me?’
The man wasn’t annoyed by his expression. He continued, "As I said, I’m here to help you. But you seem a bit resistant right now. So, to ensure things proceed smoothly... my apologies."
With that, he waved his hand.
Then, two figures appeared from out of nowhere and rushed toward Miles Sanctus.
The moment he saw the two figures, Miles Sanctus’s pupils shrank in disbelief. "Impossible!!!"
He was no stranger to these two. They were just like the batch of Human Body Warriors that had been developed at his own base.
’But weren’t those developed by Dr. Quinn? How does this man have Human Body Warriors too?’
