Chapter 528: Chapter 537: Selene Larkin’s Death

She stared intently at Miles Sanctus, trying to read something from his face.

’Maybe he’s just saying that to confuse Stella Sterling.’

’He wants her to think I have no value, so she’ll let me go.’

But no matter how hard she looked, she couldn’t figure out what her so-called brother was thinking.

He hadn’t even glanced her way from the very beginning.

His gaze was fixed on the Human Body Warriors. As for whether she lived or died, he couldn’t care less.

In that moment, Selene Larkin finally realized it. She wasn’t important to this "brother" of hers at all. She held no place in his heart.

He truly didn’t care if she lived or died.

’He probably meant exactly what he said. He thinks I should just end it all right now instead of dragging him down.’

At this thought, Selene Larkin seemed to deflate like a popped balloon.

She had risked life and limb for him for so long, only to find she held no status in his heart whatsoever.

She had always considered Sanctyr Base her pride and joy, but now, before Stella Sterling, it had proven so fragile.

And Eldoria, whom she loved so dearly, had vanished at the critical moment, as if he had completely disappeared.

Suddenly, she had no purpose.

"Look. This is the ’big brother’ you serve. It seems your place in his heart isn’t so special after all!"

Stella Sterling watched her crestfallen expression and released her hand from the other woman’s neck.

Normally, Selene Larkin would have retorted, but at this moment, she remained silent.

She had been utterly defeated by this woman, Stella Sterling. She was a failure, so she couldn’t blame others for mocking her.

Seeing her in this state, Stella Sterling said no more, refraining from further taunts.

Stella Sterling didn’t have any strong feelings about Selene Larkin. The two had no prior grudges; from the beginning, it had simply been a matter of opposing sides.

In fact, Stella Sterling even admired the other woman’s abilities. Honestly, she was formidable. If not for her own rebirth, her ’cheat’ abilities, and her dimensional space, she might not have been a match for her.

For someone like that, she genuinely appreciated her skills.

Had it been anyone else, Stella Sterling might have even tried to recruit them into her Caeluna Base.

’She’s serving someone anyway. Since the master she’s loyal to doesn’t care about her, why not consider working for me?’

However, Selene Larkin’s unique position made Stella Sterling abandon that idea.

The woman was the second-in-command of Sanctyr Base and had a deep attachment to it. Even if she was disappointed in Miles Sanctus, she would surely hate the person who had destroyed her base.

Besides, she didn’t know yet that River Larkin was in Stella’s hands, and Stella would have to kill him eventually.

There was no direct feud between her and Selene Larkin, but their roles destined them to be enemies.

Keeping someone like that around would do her no good. Even if she fed her a Loyal Servant Pill to prevent betrayal...

...there was no need to keep someone who constantly hated her by her side.

So, without a word, Stella Sterling drew her gun, shot Selene Larkin, and finished it.

She wouldn’t let someone who hated her so much continue to live in this world.

She holstered her gun and glanced over at the Black Swan. Seeing they could handle themselves, she looked away and turned her gaze toward Miles Sanctus.

As she expected, Miles Sanctus showed no reaction to Selene Larkin’s death, his expression as cold and indifferent as before.

Stella Sterling let out a derisive laugh.

"Boss Saint, you truly are heartless. A sister who was so loyal to you, and you just cast her aside like that!"

Miles Sanctus didn’t get angry at her words. He simply said calmly, "A useless chess piece should naturally be discarded when the time comes. Miss Sterling, you’ve climbed this far; surely you understand that. We’re one and the same, so why bother with the mockery?"

Miles Sanctus didn’t believe he had done anything wrong. So what if he had some affection for Selene Larkin?

He couldn’t possibly order his men to stand down for her sake.

Besides, as his sworn sister, as the person most loyal to him, she should have been prepared to sacrifice herself for him at a critical moment long ago.

Not become a weakness for others to exploit against him.

Hearing this, Stella Sterling raised an eyebrow. "Don’t lump us together. I’m not like you!"

Miles Sanctus didn’t refute her. ’For Stella Sterling to say something like that now is probably just a way to secure the loyalty of her subordinates.’

’When it really comes down to it, I’m sure she would make the same choice I did.’

People like them were cut from the same cloth. If they weren’t ruthless, how could they have climbed so high?

He smiled faintly. "Miss Sterling, surely you don’t think your handful of subordinates can stop this. How about I give you one last chance? Surrender, and I’ll pretend today never happened."

"I genuinely like you. If you’re willing to be with me, I would never treat you as a disposable chess piece!"

Hearing this, Evan Sterling, who was standing beside him, showed a flash of surprise in his eyes, and even a hint of anxiety.

He had been completely absorbed in his research and didn’t know much about what had been happening at the base.

’Boss Saint actually likes that bitch Stella Sterling?’

’This can’t happen!’

He turned his head and said to Miles Sanctus, "Boss Saint, there are countless beautiful women in the world. Please don’t go soft on this one!"

Before Miles Sanctus could speak, Stella Sterling cut them off impatiently. "You two are overthinking things. There’s only one outcome today: I will be the victor!"

At that moment, Stella Sterling’s voice was filled with absolute confidence, exuding an air of dominance.

’Do they really think they’re invincible just because they’ve developed a batch of fearless Human Body Warriors?’

If that was what they thought, they were dead wrong.

"Confidence is a good thing, but blind confidence is just courting death. Stella Sterling, there’s only one end for you today. Go down and atone to Mom and Dad!"

Evan Sterling gave a cold laugh. Then, a dozen more Human Body Warriors appeared from behind him and charged toward Stella Sterling.

There was no one by Stella Sterling’s side now; all her people were already tied up.

So, these new warriors charged directly at her.

"Miss Sterling, look out!"

Zane Xavier shouted, rushing toward Stella Sterling and opening fire on the Human Body Warriors.

’My original plan was to hang back and not act rashly. If Miss Sterling were to be defeated, at least I would still be free to move.’
