Apocalypse Online: Regression of SSS-Class Summoner
Chapter 241: Demons for War
Angelo honestly didn’t know how to react.
What he needed was a number of reinforcements, not his Guild Master and a bunch of other B-rankers.
However, recalling that his Guild Master was a Summoner, with his summons being capable of fighting on the level of B-rankers, Angelo was slowly convinced.
Now, he only needed to prevent the demons from taking over the entire Southern Frontier.
At the moment, nearly half of the Southern Frontier had been swallowed by demons. At this pace, they would eventually be able to extend all the way to the edge of the northern frontier.
The demons had gone all out.
Angelo could also perceive the presence of demons on the other side of the frontier, but what he was facing was far more terrifying than the forces attacking the other zones.
With the Demon Lord watching from beyond the southern border, the demons’ advancement seemed unstoppable.
If it were not for the Authority of Salvation, the Demon Lord would have long since conquered the entire Mirefall Province.
Though Angelo was simply exaggerating.
He was forgetting the presence of the High General.
Even so, the fact that he could entertain such a thought showed just how terrifying the situation had become.
Eventually, Angelo was forced to target Greater Demons due to the absurd number of them.
Every single one had the capability to annihilate a squad of demon hunters, even if one of those demon hunters was a B-ranker.
For instance, there were large humanoid demons with dark-red skin, thick muscles, oversized horns, and glowing orange eyes.
They possessed physiques comparable to Berserkers.
Whenever they continued fighting against warrior demon hunters, they grew stronger.
The stronger their rage became, the stronger their bodies became.
They were terrifying.
Angelo had to intervene before they could break through the frontline’s formation.
There were also lean, muscular demons with crimson-black skin and elongated claws. Their bodies were covered with blood-red markings that glowed whenever they wounded their enemies.
The illumination of those markings reflected what they gained by absorbing the blood of others.
If the large humanoid demons grew stronger through rage, these lean, muscular demons grew stronger by absorbing blood.
Truly, they were demons made for war.
Despite all the preparations the demon hunters had made, despite becoming fearless when facing demons, they were bound to struggle against creatures that had seemingly been born for warfare.
Even Angelo himself couldn’t personally take care of every Greater Demon due to their sheer numbers.
Unless he went all out.
But he didn’t want to accept what would happen once he became immobilized from depleting his mana.
There were also large, heavily muscled demons with four arms and wide, bestial faces.
They carried enormous weapons, such as axes, cleavers, and greatswords.
It would take three or four B-rankers to fight one of them under favorable conditions.
Every Greater Demon possessed a demonic physique suited for war.
Unlike Varkhaz’s legions, which consisted of demons closer to tacticians, manipulators, and other specialized roles, these Greater Demons were truly terrifying when it came to warfare.
Angelo found it difficult to keep up.
No.
His demon hunters were struggling to hold on any longer.
Fighting against demons from the Kingdom of Endless War was truly a terrible idea.
Even so, when faced with death itself, the demon hunters did not run.
Despite appearing completely exhausted and barely able to muster any strength, when death came for them, they simply shouted at it and attempted to fight one last time.
Seeing the fearless demon hunters, even when they were completely weary and had burned through everything they had—life force, mana, and strength—they continued to fight until their very last breath.
Angelo was inspired by them.
In fact, at that very moment, a C-rank Knight struggled to lift his anti-demon hammer after killing a Lesser Noble.
He was now facing a humanoid demon with dark crimson skin, four horns, black armor, and glowing red eyes.
The demon carried a massive greatsword.
A Wrathbound Demon.
A Greater Demon specialized in elite melee combat.
The first victim of the Wrathbound Demon was naturally him.
The C-rank Knight had come from the Shieldbearer path, with a hammer as his secondary weapon.
His greatest offense would always be his defense.
But even his one-handed shield had already been broken during the earlier battles.
Fighting against a Greater Demon was tantamount to suicide.
And the Knight was aware of it.
Even then, he raised his hammer.
His heart palpitated violently from fear, but strangely, that fear seemed to have the opposite effect.
An adrenaline rush surged through his body.
His heartbeat echoed like a drum, announcing the greatest battle of his life.
Then, he perceived another presence.
A C-rank Knight.
And another.
Every single one of them came from the Shieldbearer path.
Seeing them gave him more courage to stand against the Wrathbound Demon.
The Wrathbound Demon appeared to grin from ear to ear, seemingly enjoying the sight of enemies who continued to struggle even when death was already imminent.
But when it perceived Angelo’s terrifying presence, its expression changed.
It no longer hesitated.
If it was going to die, then it would kill the enemies in front of it first.
Indeed, demons from the Kingdom of Endless War did not fear death at all.
The Wrathbound Demon shouted at the top of its lungs and issued a challenge toward the first C-rank Knight.
The Knight’s hair stood on end as a chill ran down his spine.
However, he did not back down.
He shouted at the top of his lungs as well.
Though his voice was clearly forced and filled with fear.
The Wrathbound Demon charged toward the C-rank Knight.
For the first time since his battle against a demon began, the Knight raised his hammer with both hands.
Mustering every ounce of strength he could, he wanted to see for himself whether his hammer could at least inflict a slight amount of pain upon the Wrathbound Demon.
Unfortunately, when the hammer struck the Wrathbound Demon first, the latter simply smirked.
It raised its greatsword.
Then swung downward.
The C-rank Knight could only close his eyes, his entire body tensing as he prepared for the greatsword to split him in half.
But what he expected never came.
He opened his eyes.
And to his shock, a knight radiating brilliant golden light had appeared before him.
The knight blocked the Wrathbound Demon’s greatsword with a greataxe.
Evenly.
