Chapter 382: Chapter 201: The Might of the Ion Laser Cannon, Retreat and Street Fighting
After all, at such speeds, sonic and hypersonic velocities seemed no different from standing still.
Dealing with the Samurai Hunter Zergs, which had relatively weak Armor and Defense, was practically effortless. One shot, one kill. There was no need to use the charged Ion Light Cannon; a simple, instant shot with one thousand Basic Damage was enough.
The only thing Lin Feng had to worry about was whether his own reaction speed and the cannon’s lock-on tracking could keep up with the enemy’s evasive maneuvers.
But as it stood, aside from the incredibly fast Tier Two Wind-winged Zergs, no other Zerg Race could reach the extreme speed of a thousand meters per second.
Once Lin Feng himself advanced to Tier Three, his neural reaction speed would certainly improve further under the enhancement of his Spirit and Physique Attributes. At that point, even the Wind-winged Zergs would have a hard time escaping the Laser Cannon’s attacks.
After all, when it came to dealing with high-speed targets, the Laser Cannon never missed. It was the ultimate counter.
Even though Lin Feng had yet to step into Tier Three, he had descended upon the battlefield like a War God. Wielding his Laser Cannon, he rained down heavenly punishment, eliminating the Zerg Race’s top combatants in a matter of seconds...
...single-handedly changing the course of the entire battle!
Having lost the cover of the Tiger Spine Zergs and Tank Flame Beetles, the dozen or so remaining Samurai Hunter Zergs fled the battlefield. The Zerg Race Mother Empress, controlling the battle from behind the scenes, realized the sudden shift in the situation and immediately ordered the Swarm surrounding the fleet to accelerate its retreat.
In an instant, the entire battlefield turned into a one-sided, large-scale rout for the Zerg Race.
The Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs were fleeing in such a panic that they stampeded blindly back toward Hai City’s territory. This caused a massive trampling incident, with at least a thousand Black Spine Zergs being crushed to death under the feet of the Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs.
Lin Feng had intended to fly forward and lead the Tier Two Battle Group to press their advantage and completely wipe out the Tier Two Zerg Race, but the slow approach of the Dreadnought Battleship from behind halted his steps.
Chen Yanyan’s familiar voice came from the bow of the ship:
"Don’t give chase! We have to fall back and defend!"
Lin Feng froze for a moment, his figure hovering in mid-air.
He then flew to the exterior of the bow, where he saw a haggard-looking Chen Yanyan, who began to explain the reason:
"The other half of the Hai City Zerg Race’s Swarm isn’t here. While the fleet was surrounded, the Mother Empress had them take a detour to attack the second defense line."
"Li Ran sent a message. The Swarm has breached the defense line in multiple places. We need to send reinforcements back as soon as possible!"
Lin Feng’s brow furrowed. ’This is a great chance to cripple the Hai City Mother Empress. If I just let these several hundred remaining Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs get away, the defensive pressure on Jin City will undoubtedly increase severalfold in the future.’
But when Lin Feng looked back, he saw that most of the Tier Two Battle Group on the front line, whether they were Genetic Warriors or regular members, were already exhausted from the prolonged battle.
Aside from the twenty or so members of the melee group he had brought with him, who wielded Chainsaw Swords, the rest of the troops, including the Tier One Awakeners on the battlefield, had been fighting bitterly for hours, from morning until noon.
Not only were they physically weak and mentally drained, but the breakfast in their stomachs had long since been digested. Awakeners, more than ordinary humans, needed to replenish their food and water to sustain their bodies’ immense energy consumption.
Hunger affected one’s combat State no less than an injury; it could cause a direct drop in fighting capability by a whole level.
On top of that, chasing the Zerg Race deep into their territory meant they would likely have to face the Hai City Mother Empress herself.
A single level 32 Jiangbei Mother Empress had already inflicted immense mental Damage on Lin Feng, nearly causing him to fail.
As the only Tier Three Mid-stage Mother Empress in the entire Jiangnan Region, even if Lin Feng reached level 30, it would be difficult for him to stand a chance against it.
Not to mention the Genetic Warriors in their ranks—ticking time bombs who were susceptible to the Mother Empress’s Spirit Manipulation.
Considering all these practical factors, after a moment of hesitation, Lin Feng decided to follow Chen Yanyan’s advice. It was time to fall back and save the camp. With that, he issued the order to retreat.
But before that, he had the fleet clean up the battlefield to recover as many losses as possible.
From his vantage point in the air, Lin Feng could see at least a dozen Tanks that had been destroyed or disabled in the decisive battle. Some had been ambushed by Tiger Spine Zergs, their massive Giant Mandibles tearing the Tanks clean in half and killing more than half the crew on the spot.
The devastated battlefield was a gory mess of flying flesh and blood. The limbs of both Zerg Race and humans were scattered everywhere, and the agonizing cries of the wounded, missing arms and legs, filled the air.
After calming down, Lin Feng immediately arranged for Chen Yanyan to tend to the wounded first. He would then lead the members of the Tier Two Battle Group who were still in decent condition to the second defense line, twenty kilometers to the rear.
「A few minutes later.」
Lin Feng and his group arrived below the defense line.
The high-walled fortifications built along the opposite bank of the Ring River were now in ruins.
Nearly a hundred Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs were leading tens of thousands of remaining Tier One Black Spine Zergs in a ferocious assault on the ten-kilometer-long second defense line.
The twenty-meter-wide Ring River was choked with the corpses of over a thousand Zerg Race that had died storming the defenses.
A dozen main fortresses and bunkers had been completely destroyed by the attacks of the Tiger Spine Zerg Giant Mandibles. A breach several hundred meters wide had been torn open in the defense line, where the entire wall had collapsed, leaving behind a ground littered with the bodies of Zerg Race and humans.
Hearing the continuous sound of cannon fire from within the city, Lin Feng couldn’t help but worry about the safety of Liu Yueqi and the others.
Beside him, Shen Jie, who had just disengaged his Winged Tiger Frenzy Form, transformed into a streak of light, spread his wings, and charged into the city.
The Tier Two members behind them followed, entering the city one after another under Lin Feng’s lead to clear out the remaining Zerg Race.
After quickly dealing with several Tier Two Tiger Spine Zergs, Lin Feng found Li Ran in front of the University City, organizing a defensive line to resist the Swarm’s attack.
