Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts
Chapter 1409 - 51: The Important and the Unimportant
"Was it you who killed my entire clan?"
When Legas saw the Black River Sovereign in the cell, he had already understood the cause and effect.
However, the situation was beyond his control, just like when he faced the Black River Sovereign, he was powerless against Wen Yu as well.
Wen Yu did not answer Legas’s question directly. He simply pointed at the Black River Sovereign and began to speak slowly.
"He is not the Black River Sovereign; he is a Demon Spirit."
"Demon Spirit? Hah, there’s no need for you to fabricate such a clumsy lie to deceive me."
Legas was full of disbelief, and Wen Yu knew that just his words alone couldn’t prove anything. He merely opened his palm, and as the Creation Energy flowed, a moment later, a small light orb formed in Wen Yu’s hand.
"This is all the intelligence I’ve gathered about the Demon Spirit. Take a look first."
After finishing, Wen Yu presented the light orb to Legas.
Legas hesitated for a moment but eventually picked up the light orb and swallowed it in one go.
...
The memories began to flicker, and within the memories selected by Wen Yu, there only existed the history of the Demon Realm, the identity of the Demon Spirit, and the scene of the real Black River Sovereign’s possession.
Legas quickly digested the memories, and moments later, he opened his eyes and slowly furrowed his brows.
"I guess you’re probably not too familiar with the history of the Demon Realm, the existence of the Demon Palace, that sort of thing?"
"No! I am very familiar with these things! This was the primary information I studied after joining the Topmost 7-Member Council of the Demon Tribe... Of course, your version differs a bit from what I saw."
Upon hearing Legas’s answer, Wen Yu raised an eyebrow.
He initially thought that with Legas’s performance, he wouldn’t be deserving of such high-level information, but now, it seemed that being the former Demon Race Commander, Legas was somewhat capable.
He countered.
"What’s different?"
"The history of the Demon Realm is not much different from what I knew, that’s true... But on the aspect of the will of the Demon Realm."
"The information I obtained states that the will of the Demon Realm perished in the Battle of the Twin Kings, whereas your data shows it became the Demon Spirit. That’s the difference."
"Not much of a difference, right?"
Wen Yu said lightly, and Legas nodded straightforwardly.
"There’s indeed not much of a difference. From a certain perspective, it can prove that what you showed me is likely true."
Legas naturally harbored doubts, as this piece of possibly fabricated memory image couldn’t prove much, and Wen Yu hadn’t expected Legas to change his deeply held beliefs just from a memory image.
Even his recent words might have been mere lip service under the current circumstances.
It was just a thorn... Ultimately, it would depend on how Legas acted.
He might stir up massive waves in the Demon Realm!
Or maybe... he could do nothing at all...
But Wen Yu didn’t care about that from the start.
He surprisingly changed the topic instantly.
"Actually, after seeing the history of the Demon Realm, I’ve always had a question. After the Battle of the Twin Kings, the Demon Tribe was supposedly exterminated, so how did you Demons come about?"
Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Legas instantly snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Wen Yu, displaying a visibly troubled expression.
"A secret, isn’t it? But it doesn’t matter. It’s just a bit of inconsequential curiosity on my part. Whether you answer or not doesn’t really matter."
This was the truth—for the secondary origin of the Demon Tribe, Wen Yu was indeed curious, but that didn’t matter.
It wouldn’t change the adversarial relationship between the Demon Tribe and Earth, nor would it alter anything else.
After a moment, perhaps Legas realized the connection, and he looked at Wen Yu, finally giving an answer.
"The first batch of New Demons were artificial, the handiwork of the Demon Lord. Philip was one of the first Demons to walk from the Demon Palace to the Demon Realm. The rest were results of self-reproduction. That’s all I know."
Wen Yu nodded slightly; Legas’s answer didn’t differ much from what Wen Yu had estimated.
At that time, with the comprehensive extinction of the Demon Tribe, only a few led by the Demon Lord remained. The newly born Demons were surely created out of thin air by someone—it was akin to "Nuwa Creates Humans" or the "Soul Abiogenetic Creation Skill."
And the one with such capabilities could only be the Demon Lord without a doubt.
The New Demon Race was like the soul puppets Wen Yu created, though on a higher level. This was possibly due to the Celestial Gift Stone of the Demon Tribe, something Wen Yu had speculated about. Now receiving confirmation from Legas, it wasn’t unexpected for Wen Yu.
"However, there’s no denying that the Demon Lord holds the status of a deity, a creator in our hearts. I actually understand your thinking."
Up to this point, Legas also seemed to have opened up, speaking plainly.
"Your goal is just the Demon Spirit, right?"
"Exactly, the threat of the Demon Spirit is immense. In my eyes, it rivals the entire Demon Realm. I need to make some arrangements."
Wen Yu spoke frankly about this matter.
"So, you want me to cause some trouble for the Demon Spirit after I get out, or perhaps weaken the Demon Spirit, is that right?"
"That’s correct, that’s exactly what I want."
"I might not be able to do it. I might not even do it."
"Because I killed your family?"
"Partly, yes. There’s also another reason: I’m afraid of dying."
Legas was frank about his own cowardice—if Wen Yu’s words were false and he let Legas go, then Legas would have gained a life for free.
But if Wen Yu’s words were true, the implications would be significant—with the means of the Demon Spirit seen in the memory images, Legas could imagine how much influence the Demon Spirit had developed in the Demon Realm over the years.
Even to a ridiculous extent, the entire Demon Clan Army’s Topmost 7-Member Council, aside from himself and Philip, could all very well be avatars of the Demon Spirit!
Poor Philip, trying to recruit here and there...
Under such preconditions, Legas could envision the magnitude of the Demon Spirit’s power and influence; facing such an opponent, even if he got out, he might only meet a dead end.
It’s not that he didn’t want to do it—the respect and reverence for the Demon Lord still affected Legas’s decision, but he truly didn’t dare do it.
"It doesn’t matter... Whether you do it or not is your problem; whether I release you is mine."
"I’ve given you the intelligence; what you do with it is your business."
Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Legas frowned instead.
"Aren’t you afraid I’ll come out and cause you trouble?"
"Where would you go to find me?"
Wen Yu’s retort left Legas utterly speechless.
The Earth, he couldn’t go there. If he could, that would be just a self-destructive venture.
For Wen Yu, there was indeed animosity between him and Legas, but given Legas’s capability, it was an insignificant matter. The important thing was if Legas could bring even a tiny bit of trouble to the Demon Spirit, then this move by Wen Yu wouldn’t have been in vain.
