Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts
Chapter 1223 - 177: Vigilance
Void Traversing has an effect, which was expected—the Sentinels, in the end, are just tools. Although they have a main control core that can control their movements, making these Sentinels appear less rigid, a tool is still just a tool. People have heard of the invincible, but never of an invincible tool.
The innate limitations are too great, and the attributes are too extreme and singular, leaving these formidable Sentinels helpless against Wen Yu...
However, this time, the Sentinels’ attack target includes only three—Wen Yu, the Faceless, and Bai. When both Wen Yu and the Faceless activated Void Traversing, the unfortunate one turned out to be Bai.
The Sentinels pursuing Wen Yu and the Faceless lost their target and all rushed towards Bai, who was already powerless against the Sentinels, and Bai was instantly out of luck!
...
In the Void, Wen Yu followed the Sentinels’ transfer route to find Bai.
What met his eyes was a mountain of steel!
The entire mountain was composed of Sentinels, overlapping, squeezing, and trembling incessantly, as if a beast was struggling underneath. Yet, as the Sentinels piled higher and higher, the mountain grew larger, and the struggle gradually weakened.
Human strength always has its limits, but the number of these Sentinels is seemingly endless. Even though their attacks cannot harm Bai at all, using the method of Buddha Tathagata suppressing the Monkey King, they still left Bai utterly helpless.
Wen Yu stood not far from the mountain in the Void, watching Bai being pinned down underneath, a flicker of brilliance gradually illuminating his eyes—he was waiting, waiting for Bai to come up with a solution.
Bai has many methods, and although his performance seems somewhat unbearable on the surface, Bai always manages to escape danger at crucial moments—whether it’s the Puppet Immortal Emperor or having devoured Ye Nan’s conceptual undying body, they all prove that Bai was already prepared for crisis. Wen Yu doesn’t believe that mere dead things could hold Bai.
Yet this waiting lasted for nearly an hour...
During the period, Bai’s spiritual fluctuations constantly transmitted to Wen Yu’s ears, words like "save me," "think of a way," making Wen Yu’s ears practically grow calluses. And Wen Yu merely replied casually, saying he was solving the problem, but in reality, Wen Yu was just hiding beside Bai, silently observing, until after an hour, Bai’s struggle weakened further—he grew tired...
It was then that Wen Yu finally spoke.
"Found a way... I almost forgot I have a skill called Void Traversing... Wait for me, I’ll first look for their source. Once I’ve dealt with them, then you can act."
This tone carried a sense of sudden realization and regret, with Wen Yu’s performance seeming quite authentic.
"Okay..."
Bai’s voice came from the bottom of the mountain, a bit stifled and powerless, yet devoid of pain. Upon hearing this, Wen Yu immediately turned and left.
Wen Yu was not at all worried about Bai’s safety—only Sentinels are here, their characteristics alone can eliminate all enemies, and Bai, with an undying body, cannot be wounded or killed by Sentinels. In other words, even if Wen Yu spent years searching, Bai could only starve or die of thirst, not be killed.
But the focus now is not on the Sentinels... Although they can be considered obstacles, they’re just tigers without claws and teeth. Wen Yu even reminisces about treasures like tiger whips and bones. Right from the first attack of the Sentinels, Wen Yu understood their attributes, and after Bai devoured Ye Nan’s conceptual undying body, neither of them paid attention to the Sentinels. Now, what Wen Yu is wary of is Bai himself!
This is not because he sees any malicious intent from Bai, but merely a self-preservation instinct—being used or harmed by others is something Wen Yu has experienced too often. Even though he harbors no intent to harm others, when facing these cunning individuals, Wen Yu has long become accustomed to keeping a trick up his sleeve.
He decided to venture into the depths of the vortex alone, trying to find the Sentinels’ manipulate core, while the Faceless stayed behind, monitoring Bai’s every move.
Before things concluded, Wen Yu thought it necessary for the Faceless to keep a close eye on Bai, in case Bai developed any bad ideas.
...
Only when flying close did Wen Yu deeply feel the magnificence and vastness of the Origin Pool ahead, the massive Origin Vortex constantly stirring the storm, with a colossal force erupting like a gale, roaring. Even standing in the Void, Wen Yu sensed a substantive pressure.
Origin Energy, the highest level in the energy hierarchy, can break through all energies, and spatial energy is naturally no exception. With the violent surge of vast Origin Energy, Wen Yu suddenly felt that even Void Traversing seemed susceptible to scattering.
Fortunately, the worst-case scenario did not occur. This Origin Energy was inherently chaotic and disordered; when Wen Yu used Chaotic Power to maintain Void Traversing, the situation immediately improved. Although the consumption increased, it was still within Wen Yu’s bearing range.
He continued forward along the direction from which the Sentinels surged, and without much delay, flew into a certain arm of the Origin Pool.
A great amount of Origin Energy around emitted a faint light, multicolored, forming vibrant beams. Yet beneath this seemingly beautiful appearance lay danger, capable of inflicting fatal harm on powerful Level 11 experts.
The external Origin Energy indeed posed no threat to Wen Yu, but as the concentration increased within the arm, these unordered Origin Energies intertwined, generating some unknown reactions. They rushed about wildly, and once any life form entered their domain, they would instantly shoot out like arrows, tearing the enemy to shreds!
The Origin Pool seemed to have only this one line of Sentinels as defense, yet the external environment of the Origin Pool itself was the best defense system—no weaknesses, infinite energy, capable of stopping gods and Buddhas alike, without a solid foundation, one couldn’t even touch the edge of the Origin Pool!
Wen Yu, too, didn’t wish to test the autonomous counterstrike power of this Origin Energy. He merely kept stimulating Chaotic Power to quickly replenish the consumption from Void Traversing, in order to maintain its effect. But at this moment, Wen Yu indeed pondered—how should Bai intrude into the Origin Pool?
This indeed poses a question...
But the doubt didn’t last long; soon Wen Yu found something within this arm.
...
That was a small mechanical device—only half a person’s height, its appearance resembling a rough Stone Platform. Without the occasional dull white glow it emitted, Wen Yu wouldn’t have found this inconspicuous thing in such an environment.
Dozens of Sentinels radiating colorful light hovered around it; the color matched precisely with the light waves emitted by the surrounding Origin Energy. These Sentinels’ designs didn’t significantly differ from Sentinel Type III, but their flight paths clearly showed more agility.
