Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch
Chapter 252: Sonic and Kinetic
Down the long, muddy canyon trail they had just traversed, the fog was being torn apart by high-speed force.
Emerging from the gray mist were two high-powered, heavy-engine Apex combat motorcycles, their widened, spiked treads tearing through the deep slush at terrifying speeds. Instead of relying on heavy armor or treads, the bikes were light, sleek, and modified specifically for high-speed pursuit through treacherous terrain.
And standing on the footpegs of the twin bikes were two human figures radiating a suffocating surge of core power.
"It’s not heavy armor!" Zhou Ming yelled over the cab intercom, his knuckles white as he fought the spinning steering wheel against the sliding clay. "It’s two power-holders!"
The rider on the left wore an obsidian helmet, his dark tactical coat whipping in the freezing wind. As he accelerated along the muddy bank, a low, unnatural hum vibrated from his bare right gloved fist. He slammed his palm against the side of his bike’s fuel tank, sending a localized, deep-frequency shockwave surging straight through the earth.
BOOM!
The slush directly under the transport’s rear wheels exploded into a geyser of brown mud, the shockwave slamming against the side of the truck with enough force to throw Song Yan off his balance inside the cabin. The glass of the rear viewport shattered into a shower of dangerous shards, frigid wind and spray pouring into the interior.
"Brace!" Han Zheng bellowed, throwing his arm over his face as glass rained down around them.
The second rider, clad in sleek white tactical armor, didn’t even touch his handlebars. His body radiated a faint, distortive golden haze as his motorcycle glided over the deep clay as if skimming across smooth glass.
He raised his right arm, a long, crackling arc of high-density energy igniting along his forearm like an oversized energy blade. With a flick of his wrist, he altered the friction beneath the transport’s six massive tires, instantly hardening the melting slush into slick, frozen ice.
The heavy six-wheeler lost all traction, fishtailing wildly toward the sheer edge of the ravine.
"Song Yan, hold the chassis!" Han Zheng commanded, his voice cutting through the roar of the engines and the howling wind.
Song Yan lunged forward, slamming both palms flat against the steel floorboards. A shimmering, distortive ripple of gravitational force spread from his hands, artificially quadrupling the transport’s downward weight. The tires bit hard into the mud beneath the ice, stabilizing the heavy vehicle just inches from the drop-off.
"Ah Hua, Lu Feng, on the roof!" Han Zheng ordered, popping the latch of the upper hatch and hauling himself up into the rushing, freezing air.
Ah Hua and Lu Feng scrambled up right behind him, locking their boots into the roof railings as the transport barreled down the muddy riverbed trail.
"Rider on the right!" Lu Feng shouted, bringing his Power Core Rifle to his shoulder. He aimed straight at the white-armored Kinetic Rider and squeezed the trigger.
PFT-THUM!
A brilliant, ruby-red bolt erupted from Lu Feng’s barrel, streaking through the mist. But as the red bolt neared the rider, a fluid, shimmering barrier flared around the motorcycle. The plasma bolt splashed harmlessly against the barrier, dissipating into wisps of red steam.
"Tier One isn’t penetrating his field!" Lu Feng warned, racking his charge lever.
Ah Hua switched his selector to red as well, firing three rapid bursts at the obsidian-helmeted Sonic Rider on the left.
PFT-THUM! PFT-THUM! PFT-THUM!
The Sonic Rider didn’t even dodge. He raised his bare hand, unleashing a sharp, pressurized sonic pulse that shattered the incoming plasma bolts in mid-air before punching straight toward the roof of the transport.
"Watch out!" Ah Hua roared, stepping in front of Lu Feng and throwing his mechanical arm forward to shield them.
The invisible sonic pulse slammed into Ah Hua’s metallic forearm with the impact of a sledgehammer. The dark steel plating groaned under the immense pressure, micro-servos whining loudly as sparks showered from his wrist joints, but the mechanical arm held firm, absorbing the destructive shockwave.
"Man, that stung!" Ah Hua gritted his teeth, his metallic fingers twitching as hydraulic fluid dripped from the wrist seal. "These guys aren’t regular field infantry!"
Han Zheng stood tall against the biting wind, his eyes fixed on the white-armored Kinetic Rider who was preparing to jump his bike onto the truck’s side panel.
"They are probably elite enforcers," Han Zheng said coldly. His thumb clicked the selector switch on his rifle, moving it past the red notch to the glowing gold indicator.
The weapon let out a high-pitched whine as its internal capacitors drew maximum core energy from the fragment inside. The barrel housing glowed with a intense, sun-bright radiance.
"Let’s see your barrier stand up to this," Han Zheng muttered.
He locked his sights onto the front wheel frame of the Kinetic Rider’s motorcycle and pulled the trigger.
BOOM-CRACK!
A blinding, yellow beam of concentrated energy tore through the mist. The yellow bolt hit the Kinetic Rider’s fluid barrier, shattering the shimmering field like thin glass before punching straight through the motorcycle’s front fork and engine block.
The white motorcycle detonated in a violent shower of white-hot sparks, melting iron, and exploding fuel.
"Hit!" Lu Feng cheered.
However, before the wreckage could hit the ground, the white-armored Kinetic Rider launched himself off the footpegs in mid-air. He executed a graceful, gravity-defying flip through the smoke, landing cleanly on his feet in the deep slush twenty meters ahead. He drew two long, crackling energy blades from his hip sheaths, his white visor glowing with lethal intent.
Simultaneously, the Sonic Rider on the left accelerated past the transport’s cab, slamming both fists onto a jutting granite outcrop along the upper canyon wall.
BOOOOOOM!
A massive, earth-shattering shockwave ripped through the granite cliff face. Tons of razor-sharp boulders, frozen mud, and uprooted pine trees sheared off the mountain wall, crashing down directly into the narrow trail ahead.
"Obstacle! Heavy rockslide!" Zhou Ming screamed over the cab intercom, stomping on the brake pedal with both feet.
The six-wheeled transport skidded violently through the brown clay, its tires smoking as it came to a grinding, forced halt just ten feet short of the massive pile of fallen granite, completely blocking their escape path back to the Research Center.
"They forced us to stop," Han Zheng said, his voice dropping into a low, dangerous growl. He unlatched the roof hatch and looked down into the cabin. "Song Yan, Zhou Ming, stay inside with Ye Lin and his mother. Keep the doors locked and the engine idling."
"Be careful, Commander," Song Yan said, his face pale from maintaining the gravitational anchor.
Han Zheng, Ah Hua, and Lu Feng unlatched the side doors and stepped out into the freezing, water-logged riverbed. The thaw water rushed around their combat boots, swirling with dark mud and chunks of melting ice.
Through the cracked rear window of the transport, Ye Lin pressed his blood-stained face against the glass, his eyes wide with recognition as he looked at the two figures standing in the slush. He grabbed the internal comms mic, his raspy voice crackling through Han Zheng’s earpiece.
"Han Zheng! Be careful!" Ye Lin warned frantically. "I recognize them from the high-clearance security files! They aren’t regional patrol leaders—they are Dr. Sterling’s personal Vanguard Enforcers! The one in white is code-named Vector, and the dark one is Resonance!"
Twenty meters down the muddy clearing, the two Apex enforcers stood side-by-side, blocking the narrow pass.
Resonance, the Sonic Rider, slowly removed his obsidian helmet, tossing it into the slush. He was a pale, scar-faced man with cold, sunken eyes and silver rings embedded along his jawline. Next to him, Vector raised his twin kinetic blades, the crackling golden energy casting long, eerie shadows across the melting snowbanks.
"Hand over the fugitive and the data core," Resonance said, his voice carrying a strange, unnatural metallic resonance that made the water around his boots ripple. "Commander Lu has granted us full authorization to terminate anyone who tries to stop us."
Han Zheng stepped forward, raising his Rifle with his right hand while his core energy began to hum beneath his skin. "You came into my valley, attacked my people, and blocked my road. You aren’t taking anything back."
"Then you die in the mud," Vector stated coldly.
In a blur of blinding speed, Vector lunged forward, his feet barely touching the slush as he glided across the riverbed. He swung his right kinetic blade in a sweeping horizontal arc aimed straight for Han Zheng’s neck.
Han Zheng brought the stock of his Power Core Rifle up, blocking the glowing energy blade with a sharp, shower of yellow sparks. The sheer kinetic force of the blow drove Han Zheng’s boots two inches into the clay, but he didn’t yield an inch.
Using his immense physical strength, Han Zheng shoved Vector back, delivering a swift, heavy front kick straight to Vector’s chest plate that sent the white-armored enforcer skidding backward across the mud.
"I’ve got the loud one!" Ah Hua roared, charging straight toward Resonance.
Ah Hua raised his dark steel mechanical arm, bringing his heavy metallic fist down in a brutal, overhead smash. Resonance smirked, raising both hands to cross his forearms above his head, unleashing an instantaneous point-blank sonic wave.
CRACK!
The collision of mechanical steel and compressed sonic energy created a localized shockwave that blew the slush twenty feet into the air. Ah Hua was forced back two steps, his boots churning through the clay, but he laughed fiercely, flexing his hydraulic fingers. "Is that all you got, scar-face?!"
Lu Feng stood on the transport’s running board, providing high-angle fire with his Rifle, squeezing off precise red-tier bursts to keep Vector from flanking Han Zheng. The plasma bolts forced Vector to constantly deploy his kinetic shields, breaking his offensive rhythm.
Han Zheng stepped fluidly into Vector’s guard, flipping his rifle selector back to the yellow notch. The weapon hummed with terrifying power as the barrel housing flared gold.
Vector’s eyes widened behind his visor as he recognized the lethal threat of the point-blank energy charge. He crossed both kinetic blades in front of his chest, channeling every drop of his core energy into a concentrated, dense barrier.
"Take it!" Han Zheng growled, pulling the trigger at point-blank range.
BOOM-CRACK!
The yellow beam slammed directly into Vector’s kinetic barrier. The sheer force of the explosion shattered the barrier instantly, the kinetic recoil blowing Vector backward through the air. His armor cracked violently as he slammed into the granite cliff face, collapsing into the muddy slush in a heap.
However, before the squad could press their advantage, Resonance let out a guttural roar.
Furious at Vector’s defeat, Resonance slammed both bare palms flat into the water-logged riverbed, dumping his entire core reserves straight into the earth beneath their feet.
THUUUUUUM!
A massive, terrifying seismic vibration ripped through the canyon floor. The ground buckled violently, throwing Han Zheng, Ah Hua, and Lu Feng off their feet as the mud liquefied into a chaotic vortex. High above them, the massive granite cliff wall, already destabilized by the melting thaw, groaned under the sonic vibrations, giant cracks spreading across its face as tons of rock prepared to slide down and bury the entire ravine.
