Chapter 256: Chapter 223: Collecting a Debt (3)
But every time a fat raindrop landed on his lips, it was gently yet firmly repelled by a faint violet halo, barely visible to the naked eye. The drops trickled down his body to the ground, leaving him to suck at the moisture clinging to his soaked collar.
’A medium Screaming Potion... God, that hurts.’
He reached up to rub his throat, watching the man before him still frantically waving his handgun around. The chamber was long empty, but he just kept pulling the trigger, producing a series of futile CLICKS.
It was the same for the gunman behind him. His rifle was also empty, but he was calmer, merely staring coldly at Lin Fan instead of pointlessly pulling the trigger.
’A quick glance at my remaining energy,’ he thought. ’492. It’s dropped by a little over ninety points...’
’Each rifle round from the gunman in the back cost me about seven or eight energy points. The pistol rounds were only two.’
After unleashing his ability, Lin Fan had stood perfectly still for two reasons. First, his throat really hurt. Second, he’d wanted to test the strength of his armor crystal, which had turned a pale violet.
As it turned out, it was more than strong enough.
’Looks like simple rifle or pistol fire isn’t enough to reach my Superpower’s overload threshold.’
As for the shooter in the back, he might have looked calm, but out of twenty-something shots, he had only landed twelve. More than half his bullets had gone wide. His composure wasn’t all that great after all.
His figure finally emerged, walking slowly out of the lingering cloud of white mist. The rain had plastered his black tracksuit to his body, outlining the explosive lines of his muscles.
He strode unhurriedly through the mud and water, his empty hands swinging at his sides. He stepped on a hollow paving stone, and a gout of filthy water splashed onto his foot, only to be immediately washed away by the rain.
But to Li Xun, still dizzy and disoriented, the man emerging from the white mist was nothing less than a demon crawling up from Hell.
He couldn’t hear or see clearly, but he could feel the palpable, oppressive killing intent from ahead. He let out a hoarse cry, the whites of his eyes showing. Driven by a final shred of instinct, he once more raised the handgun—which appeared to him as a dizzying array of overlapping images—and aimed at the approaching shadow, pulling the empty trigger again and again. CLICK. CLICK. CLICK.
"Don’t bother."
Lin Fan’s voice wasn’t loud. Then, with a casual flick of his wrist...
CRACK!
A sickening crunch echoed out. The handgun was wrenched from his grasp, and Li Xun’s index finger, still hooked inside the trigger guard, was instantly snapped backward, bent at a grotesque ninety-degree angle!
"AHHH!!! DIE!!"
The searing pain, however, only ignited Li Xun’s last bit of ferocity. As an Awakened One, his physical strength was far beyond that of a normal person, even without his Superpower! He roared, his left hand balling into a fist that whistled through the air as he swung viciously at Lin Fan’s face!
Smack.
A soft sound. The fist that whistled with power was effortlessly enveloped by another, larger, and steadier hand.
Lin Fan watched him, his face devoid of expression, and then his five fingers clenched tight!
CRUNCH—
The sound of densely cracking bone traveled up Li Xun’s arm and into his brain—the sound of his metacarpals being brutally crushed into splinters.
"You... what are you..." Li Xun’s body convulsed in agony. The madness in his eyes finally faded, replaced by endless terror.
But Lin Fan didn’t give him the chance to finish.
He released Li Xun’s crushed fist and clamped his hand around his throat.
’Sharpness Crystal!’
SWISH—
A white light flashed!
In that instant, a perfect cross-shaped incision appeared on Li Xun’s neck.
The horizontal cut severed his cervical spine and trachea, while the vertical cut sliced upward through his skull and downward through his chest and organs.
[-999]!
In that instant, Li Xun was nearly quartered. Warm arterial blood gushed from the cross-shaped wound like a fire hose, only to be washed away by the downpour, staining the ground in a spreading pool of crimson.
"I’m here to collect a debt."
Lin Fan flicked his hand, shaking off blood that wasn’t there. He slowly raised his head, his cold eyes piercing the curtain of rain to lock onto the young gunman hiding behind a wrecked car, petrified with fear.
"And there’s one for you, too..."
