Apocalypse: I Can See Health Bars
Chapter 191 - 190: Starburst Terminal Slash
Chapter 191: Chapter 190: Starburst Terminal Slash
Lin Fan gripped the hilt and began dragging the greatsword toward the master bedroom, letting the two-hundred-pound slab of steel plow a deep furrow in the floor with a continuous, ear-piercing screech.
He had previously tried to remove the impact crystal from his spear, only to receive a notification that doing so would destroy its module and blueprint. He had decided to leave it be for the time being.
The spear was only really ineffective against ridiculously overpowered monsters; it was perfectly fine for everyday self-defense. If he removed the crystal, destroying the module and blueprint, the spear could no longer be stored in his inventory. To use it again, he’d have to waste another medium-sized module.
’It’s only a 30% crystal, after all,’ he thought. ’Best to just leave it.’
Conveniently, he had obtained another 10% impact crystal from the Giant-Armed Zombie earlier. With a thought, Lin Fan socketed it into the greatsword.
Only a crystal socketed into a weapon allowed him to control the precise location of its energy burst at will.
"A ten percent basic version should be enough..."
Lin Fan said to himself after socketing the crystal.
His previous battle with the Corrupted Giant Tree had shown him the weakness of pure energy attacks. Even an impact crystal that could instantly kill a Giant-Armed Zombie had failed to damage those two towering tentacles.
Furthermore, the weapon’s energy attack would annihilate the energy on the surface of the smaller tentacles, triggering explosions.
The same thing happened when he fought the Giant-Armed Zombie; a massive amount of energy had simply dissipated into the air instead of being properly utilized.
This was precisely the purpose Lin Fan had envisioned for the "deep bowl" on the spine of the greatsword.
To gather and focus the energy.
He dragged the sword by the hilt with one hand, then used the pommel to lightly tap the bedroom door, knocking it open.
Thanks to the near-universal interior design style in the country, every master bedroom had a double bed and a large wardrobe.
There weren’t many places for a banshee-type zombie to hide. Besides the bed was only a low chest of drawers, clearly too small to conceal anything. That meant it had to be in...
Lin Fan entered the room, took two steps to the right to give the greatsword some clearance, and turned to look at the farthest wardrobe door.
Just then, that door began to slowly swing open, and a crimson health bar gradually came into view...
Whether it was because the health bar was too conspicuous or for some other reason, the banshee-type zombie’s abilities weren’t very effective against Lin Fan. The door opening on its own certainly didn’t escape his notice.
He rolled his wrists, adjusting his stance. Learning his lesson from last time, he silently equipped his armor crystal. With a quiet exertion from both hands, a strange energy began to flow, bit by bit, through the invisible interface module and into the greatsword, gathering in the "deep bowl" on its spine...
Watching his energy bar slowly drain, Lin Fan suddenly wondered what would happen if he kept forcing energy into it.
He had only ever dared to channel ten points before, because any more than that felt uncontrollable. He’d been afraid of losing control and snapping the spear.
But this greatsword was thick and heavy, obviously not as fragile as the spear. So, while keeping his eyes on the slowly opening wardrobe door, Lin Fan assumed his stance, aimed the sword’s tip at the wardrobe, and forced his hands to keep pouring energy into the greatsword...
9, 10, 11, 12, 13!
As his Energy Value dropped past ten points, Lin Fan felt the hilt begin to tremble. In his peripheral vision, the energy gathering in the "deep bowl" became visible, like shimmering ripples of water. It started to overflow from the "bowl," its friction with the air kicking up faint sparks.
A high-frequency vibration began to spill from the mouth of the bowl, and the very air seemed to shudder before its power.
With each additional point of energy, the hilt trembled more violently, and the sparks grew brighter.
It wasn’t just the greatsword; even Lin Fan, despite having over a thousand health points, felt like he was clutching a live bomb that could detonate at any second.
The primal instinct to let go grew stronger and stronger.
By the time he reached thirteen points, the energy was no longer being "channeled" in; it began to surge back up the hilt in a backlash. No matter how hard he tried, Lin Fan could no longer suppress the raw power or the instinct to let go!
BOOM—!
A sound like muffled thunder erupted inside the room. A split second later, a torrent of violent energy spewed from the "nozzle" on the greatsword’s spine. The resulting shockwave completely shattered the bedroom door and its frame behind Lin Fan.
Propelled by this turbulent, violent energy, the greatsword shot forward like a rocket, instantly accelerating to a terrifying speed.
An unimaginable, torrential force slammed back through the hilt. It was as if he was no longer holding a sword, but a runaway rocket engine!
Even with his current constitution of [1810] health, Lin Fan had to strain with all his might just to "hang on" to the hilt and keep it from flying off in a random direction.
His hands, glowing blue under the effect of the armor crystal, fought against the force of the vibrations. He managed to guide the greatsword, pivoting on his feet to swing it in a breathtaking arc.
The banshee-type zombie had just opened the door and was widening its mouth to unleash a sonic attack on its "slow-witted" prey. The next instant, it was "vaporized" as the arc of the blade swept past.
Everything the blade touched was utterly annihilated.
The brick wall, the wardrobe, the reinforced concrete ring beam—all were as fragile as crackers before the terrifying kinetic energy.
Countless fragments of brick, dust, and furniture were violently ejected from the room.
Starting from the blade’s point of impact, a huge gash more than three meters in diameter was abruptly torn through the room. It carved a path from the wall opposite the door up through the ceiling at an angle, spanning nearly half the bedroom and exposing the adjacent guest room and the sky outside...
The thunderous roar only subsided when the greatsword finally vanished from Lin Fan’s hands. An instant later, the vacuum caused a violent backdraft, sucking all the dust and smoke that had been blown outside back into the room. The space was instantly plunged into a thick cloud of dust, so dense you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face...
The moment the muffled roar began, Su Qing, who was sitting on the sofa, heard it but had no time to process what it was. A hurricane of air, gravel, and plaster dust erupted from the master bedroom’s doorway.
She barely had time to raise her shield and protect her own and Chu Zhaozhao’s upper bodies before the blast hit them like a solid wall.
The violent blast, carrying countless bits of stone and debris that peppered them like buckshot, pinned them to the sofa. As Su Qing braced herself, Chu Zhaozhao reacted, using her ability to flip the coffee table on its side as a windbreak, helping to ease the pressure on Su Qing.
Xu Qian, however, was caught completely off guard. Standing near the door, he was sent tumbling out into the hallway by the force of the blast.
BANG! ℴ
The sound died down, and the patter of impacting debris ceased. Chu Zhaozhao lowered the coffee table, letting it fall to one side.
As the dust was slowly sucked out through the shattered window, Su Qing and Chu Zhaozhao peeked out from behind the shield. They stared at the master bedroom doorway, which had been blasted into a gaping, nearly circular hole...
