Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin
Apocalypse — Chapter 73: A Battle Out of Nowhere
The middle-aged man sighed, picked up his gun, and followed.
Led by Dong Haobiao, the eastern faction drove modified armored vans toward the western district in a vast column, carrying firearms and machetes.
At the same time, a young woman’s heart-rending sobs echoed through an ultraluxurious villa in the southern district, accompanied by Lin Chengxun’s furious roar.
“Bastard! Animal! Who did this? Who dares touch my daughter? I, Lin Chengxun, will kill him!”
“Master, we found a belt beneath the young lady’s bed,” an elderly white-haired butler reported coldly. “It is a globally limited gold Louis Vuitton edition. To my knowledge, Dong Haobiao is the only man in Jiangcheng who owns one. I’ve seen him wear it.”
“Dong Haobiao? That bastard is an animal!” said a middle-aged man in full SWAT gear. “I heard he has been capturing women for his son, sharing them with him, then killing and eating them once they grow tired of them. He’s capable of anything!”
He had despised Dong Haobiao for a long time.
“It must have been him! Commander, give the order. Let me lead our men and kill those animals!” another fully armed young man demanded, murderous intent blazing in his eyes.
His name was Song Junshuang, leader of the southern district’s youth guard.
Tall and handsome, he came from a wealthy family, possessed tremendous talent, and had trained in martial arts since childhood. Before the apocalypse, he had even been an elite SWAT officer.
He was gifted in both mind and combat, an elite among elites.
Song Junshuang had loved Lin Chengxun’s daughter, Lin Lanlan, for more than ten years. They had grown up together and shared mutual feelings.
Though Lin Lanlan was nineteen and extremely conservative, Song Junshuang considered her the only woman he would ever love. He adored and respected her so deeply that he had never even dared touch her hand for fear of harming his perfect goddess.
Recently, Lin Chengxun had personally promised their engagement on her upcoming twentieth birthday in order to secure Song Junshuang’s loyalty.
Song Junshuang had felt like the happiest man alive. Even the apocalypse seemed beautiful.
Yet just as Lin Lanlan was about to become his fiancée, another man had taken her first.
How could he endure that?
Whoever the culprit was, Song Junshuang would personally butcher him and deny him even a grave.
Lin Chengxun took a handgun from his drawer and slammed the desk with unquestionable authority.
“Junshuang! Guoyuan! Mobilize everyone in the district and arm them. Today, I will personally exterminate Dong Haobiao and rid society of that animal!”
Because of what had happened to Lin Lanlan, these social elites had completely lost their reason.
Their nerves, already stretched thin by society’s collapse, finally snapped. The anger and brutality suppressed throughout the apocalypse erupted at once.
Before long, Lin Chengxun, Chong Guoyuan, and Song Junshuang led a large force from the southern district toward the east.
Their strength was no weaker than Dong Haobiao’s. Most carried only machetes and clubs, but the men at the front wore full SWAT gear, possessed excellent weapons, and appeared highly trained.
Three modified police SUVs led the convoy, followed by converted civilian luxury cars.
The entire force surged forward with soaring morale.
By the time Lin Chengxun marched on Dong Haobiao’s stronghold, fierce fighting had already erupted in the western district.
Dong Haobiao’s sudden assault caught Ma Gang and the Crown Prince Gang completely unprepared. They lost nearly half their people in the opening clash.
With the gang’s main force already annihilated outside the City of Sin, the former strongest faction was no match for Dong Haobiao.
Dong Haobiao’s side quickly gained an overwhelming advantage and trapped Ma Gang and the remaining five or six gang members inside a villa.
Hiding on the balcony, Ma Gang looked at the corpses below and roared, “What the fuck is wrong with Dong Haobiao? He attacked me for no reason! They’re clearly here to fight to the death!”
Sweat poured from his forehead. No matter how hard he thought, he could not understand why Dong Haobiao wanted to kill him.
Dong Haobiao’s people grew equally confused as the battle continued.
The ambush they had expected never appeared. Instead, they had caught the Crown Prince Gang off guard and immediately seized the advantage.
They gradually realized that the gang had far fewer people and guns than expected.
This was not its main force.
Ma Chenbin had never appeared either.
“What is happening?” Meng Xiuwen, Dong Haobiao’s second-in-command and the man who had advised caution, became increasingly suspicious. “Why hasn’t Ma Chenbin appeared after all this fighting?”
“Why does the Crown Prince Gang have so few people?”
“Big Brother, something is wrong. How did they suddenly become so weak?”
Dong Haobiao finally began calming down. The Crown Prince Gang’s behavior was far too unusual. Not only had it failed to organize a counterattack, but it had retreated repeatedly.
Even the normally domineering Ma Gang had repeatedly requested negotiations.
And Ma Chenbin, a notorious warmonger, was still absent.
Everything pointed to something strange.
“Second Brother, use the loudspeaker and ask Ma Gang where his son is,” Dong Haobiao ordered uneasily.
Only now was he willing to talk. Earlier, hatred had blinded him to Ma Gang’s repeated requests.
“What’s the point of talking after all this?” a muscular tattooed man beside him argued. “We should use this opportunity to destroy Ma Gang and the Crown Prince Gang. Whatever is going on, taking their resources and women can’t be wrong!”
“Third Brother! Why are you always so impulsive? Ma Chenbin and the main force are both missing. We need to learn the truth!”
