Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin
Apocalypse — Chapter 62: Kill Them All
Du Zhiming charged toward the warehouse’s iron doors like a madman.
“Du Zhiming! Have you lost your mind? If you open those doors, everyone will die!”
The two young men closest to him leaped up in terror and desperately wrapped their arms around him.
Xiao Yi’s expression turned cold. He drew the Blade of Sin and severed both men’s arms with a single slash. Blood splattered across the faces of everyone nearby. The thick stench of blood and their heart-rending screams whipped the zombies outside into a frenzy, and the pounding against the iron doors grew louder and louder.
Holding the Blade of Sin, Xiao Yi’s face flickered in and out of the shadows.
“Pick up your brooms and wooden poles. Fight the way I had to after all of you threw me outside. You might still have a chance to survive.”
His words sounded like well-intentioned advice, but only Xiao Yi knew they were meant as mockery.
With the courage these people possessed, they should have died long ago in an apocalypse like this.
CLANG!!
With a deafening crash, Du Zhiming finally opened the iron doors.
Drawn by the fresh blood, a vast horde of zombies surged into the warehouse like mad.
Du Zhiming bore the brunt of the charge. After one heart-rending scream, he vanished beneath the zombie horde.
“Don’t be afraid! If we find our courage and stand together, we can fight them! Xiao Yi could face the zombies alone, so with all of us, we can definitely—”
A young man found courage from somewhere. He rose, raised an arm, and brandished his broom as he tried to rally everyone into fighting their way out. Before he could finish, a lunging zombie bit straight through his neck.
The others did not even have the courage to stand and fight. They only clutched their heads and ran in every direction. The zombie horde swallowed them in an instant.
Only the space around Xiao Yi remained untouched. Not a single zombie dared approach him.
Xiao Yi glanced at Ling Xueya, who had collapsed on the floor and was trembling from head to toe.
“Weren’t you always so proud? Didn’t you look down on poor losers like us more than anyone? Didn’t you say you would rather die than be with a loser like me? Come on, then. Stand up! Dying proudly might mean more than dragging out your miserable existence. Show me your goddess’s pride! Come on!”
“No! No, please! Master! I don’t want the zombies to eat me! I’ll do anything! Please save me!”
Ling Xueya crawled to Xiao Yi’s feet and desperately kowtowed as she begged him.
Xiao Yi tugged on the iron chain and sneered. “Then get up and follow me. If you want to live well, learn your place and stay in it.”
“Before the apocalypse, plenty of rich people kept dogs. Those dogs lived more comfortably than most poor people. If you perform well, you can too.”
...
After returning to the City of Sin, Xiao Yi chained Ling Xueya inside a room in the Dark Castle. Then he went to the Slave Dungeon again.
Ma Beili had already awakened. The mental torment made her moan weakly and writhe without stopping.
The moment she saw Xiao Yi, she clenched her teeth and glared at him like a little she-wolf, her eyes filled with hatred.
This delinquent was surprisingly stubborn.
“You’ve got quite the backbone.” Xiao Yi picked up a whip and smiled. “Was that guy I killed earlier your boyfriend?”
The question seemed to strike Ma Beili where it hurt. The young woman, who had remained strong until now, suddenly burst into tears.
“Your devotion truly moves me! I’m beginning to admire a woman like you. In an apocalypse like this, someone like you could be called a heroine. If you hadn’t been unlucky enough to run into me, perhaps the two of you could have lived happily ever after.”
After speaking with great emotion, Xiao Yi raised the whip and lashed Ma Beili several times.
“I’m so moved that I want to whip you even harder.”
Leaving Ma Beili behind, Xiao Yi walked to Ma Chenbin’s cell.
“Where’s the map?”
Ma Chenbin handed him the map he had drawn. “This is all I remember. Other groups control the remaining areas, so I’ve never been inside them.”
Xiao Yi examined it. Ma Chenbin truly did come from an elite family. Though he had spent his days fooling around, his family background remained, and he had received an excellent education from childhood.
The map was clearly organized, and even the handwriting was elegant. It did not look remotely like something drawn by a gang boss.
After looking it over, Xiao Yi was quite satisfied with Ma Chenbin’s performance.
“You did well. I’m a man who rewards merit and punishes failure.” Xiao Yi smiled. “So I won’t kill you for now.”
Ma Chenbin let out a long breath, then eagerly tried to ingratiate himself.
“Boss! Boss, I’m willing to follow you! I’ll be your subordinate! I can even persuade the Crown Prince Gang to come over and join you. We’ll be your dogs. Just point, and we’ll attack!”
