Chapter 1223 - 933: What a Coincidence, Isn’t It?
Chapter 1223: Chapter 933: What a Coincidence, Isn’t It?
No possibility for negotiation left, nor any room for the old man before his eyes pretending to be embarrassed.
When Huai Shi sat at the negotiation table, no, even earlier than that.
When the old ghost in front of him offered these ’goodwill’ smugly, even when Luo Su accompanied Huai Shi off the plane to this city, it was all destined.
What happened afterward, whether attitude was hostile or polite, made no difference.
There were only two choices left for the other party.
Yes, or no.
This represents the fundamental stance of the Ivory Tower as the orthodox legacy of Utopia, and also marks the crucial first step in the reconstruction of the Heavenly Kingdom Genealogy!
If there’s a setback here, then what’s to follow would be a joke. Just as if Huai Shi did not make the first step for the Ivory Tower in the Current Circumstances, everything afterward would be nonexistent.
Rome, the Russian Federation, Dongxia, Egypt, even America... the Five Constants and Five Great Genealogies as well as the whole world, or even the remnants of the former Utopia, are all watching their actions.
Holding chips, witnessing their deeds.
And if the Heavenly Kingdom Genealogy can’t even handle a Las Vegas rogue, is there even any necessity for reconstruction? Wouldn’t it be better to wash up and go to sleep early?
Absolutely cannot retreat.
Huai Shi’s only choice was to win.
Must win.
Must win beautifully, win so that no one has anything to say!
Otherwise, even if they get more money, it’s no more than fare home for the defeated.
But Luo Su wasn’t afraid at all, seemingly not worried, just sitting beside him quietly, appreciating his performance.
Full of confidence and anticipation.
In the silence, only Douglas’ hoarse breathing.
"Seems like Ivory Tower wants to have at us first?" He seemed to finally understand it all, couldn’t help but sneer: "Aren’t you afraid of breaking your teeth?"
Huai Shi grinned, unsure if it was mockery or simply wanting to show two neat rows of white teeth: "It’s not the Ivory Tower, it’s the Heavenly Kingdom Genealogy."
"Las Vegas will not be butchered—"
"Then rise and resist."
Huai Shi solemnly suggested: "Mobilize your contacts, squander your money, hire your private army, recruit your minions, prepare your forces and stay alert.
Before that, shut your cities, close your shops, stop your business, tell every resident here what they’ll face, and tell everyone coming here what’s here."
"Destroy all you have before we come for it?"
Huai Shi laughed softly: "That counts as burning together!"
Just like the bubble Luo Su once mocked.
Even if Huai Shi genuinely desires prosperity, he never thought of making Tanbo like this.
Casinos, sex services, luxury goods... Never satisfied desires and never enough money...
This isn’t a city, but a giant adult amusement park, built to satisfy human desires, a fantasy factory.
Relying on its unique location and seizing an unprecedented opportunity, this City of Desire was never a place where people could feel belonged from the start.
Wanting to destroy this city is too simple.
Simple enough that no war is needed, just the signal of impending war is enough.
No need for external forces or a single soldier, this city gathered by desire will collapse due to desire.
Indeed, in the Current Circumstances, the Ivory Tower struggles to perform.
But once Huai Shi pushes them to the cliff’s edge, they’ll understand that once the war starts, lose or win, they’ve already lost.
Even if they are rich, even if their treasury is abundant.
"Seems like you understand this better than I do, right?"
Huai Shi stared at the old man, looking at the people behind him: "You do not want to bear consequences, nor face the result, unable to pay what you owe, nor face the tragic outcome.
Combined by wealth and profits, you assume you are allies, but you’re just grasshoppers on the same string, once the flames ignite, you’ll run with the burning string..."
"Luo Su refuses to negotiate with you, because there was never any difficulty in this negotiation from the start. You think mutual destruction will make us hesitate, but from start to finish, we were just using you to express our resolve!"
He paused for a moment, telling them.
"Now, everyone can give their answer—"
He coldly asked: "When does the war between us begin? A month, a week? Or—now?"
In the dead silence, Douglas’ expression twitched, finally seeming to make a decision after a long time.
Closed his eyes.
"There will be no war coming, Huai Shi."
As the doors burst open, a familiar voice sounded: "As long as America still exists for a day."
At that moment, Douglas’ tense body relaxed, letting out a long breath.
And Luo Su tilted his head to light his third cigar of the day, having no surprise about the development in front of him, rather he expected it. After all, there’s no Genealogy brave enough to let them jump repeatedly at their gate.
Only Huai Shi’s expression froze.
His gaze complex beyond words.
After a long while, he rubbed his brow and sighed softly.
"Long time no see, Liz."
He said, "How have you been?"
The teenage girl walked grandly into the vault with an indifferent expression, draped in red robes symbolizing noble blood, as if patrolling her own territory, arrogantly overlooking everything before her.
"I’m very well," she said sincerely, "but I hope you’re doing terribly."
"Life is unpredictable, isn’t it?"
Huai Shi shrugged, glanced back at Luo Su, suspecting this was also within that Old Turtle’s expectations. Yet Luo Su had turned into a Polar Bear, looking innocent, as if this big bear didn’t understand what you were saying, making people grind their teeth in anger.
"America respects the principles and decisions of the Ivory Tower but will never allow anyone from the Astronomical Society to violate amendments or interfere in Current Circumstances politics."
Liz sat down at the opposite end of the long table, naturally taking the negotiation position, telling Huai Shi, "We won’t give up any rights in our own territory."
This was Douglas’s lifeline.
Reinforcements from the American Genealogy.
After lobbying numerous legislators and nobles, and promising various benefits and rewards, a sanctuary was obtained!
By a twist of fate, the person Huai Shi least wanted to face was invited.
This was truly the worst outcome.
In Liz’s chilling gaze, Huai Shi guiltily averted his eyes.
Bow to the victim.
But before Douglas could be pleased by Huai Shi’s display of weakness, he heard a voice from the other side, "We’ve known each other for ages and been through so much together; aren’t you going to avoid the topic because of a conflict of interest?"
In an instant, the old man’s smile froze on his face.
Flabbergasted, he turned to look at Liz beside him, then at Huai Shi’s helpless expression, the more he looked... the more something felt off.
That composed cad-like gaze tinged with guilt, and that grave look laced with resentment.
These two people seem, perhaps, maybe... have some issue?!
"Avoid the topic?"
Liz sneered, "Huai Shi, do you actually need to avoid anything when you do things?"
"I do have a conscience after all; when avoiding is necessary, it should be done." Huai Shi sighed, spreading his hands, "Consider this my plea for mercy, can we have someone else talk?"
"Dream on."
Liz leaned back in her chair, gazing up at him, "Do you want me to change your mind? I recommend a hospital run by a Skinner, skilled enough to turn your head into a goblet within five minutes, a long-stemmed one."
"That impressive? If there’s time, we could all share experiences."
Huai Shi chuckled, observing the teenage girl before him, curiously asking, "So, who am I negotiating with, Liz? If I represent the Heavenly Kingdom Genealogy, then who do you represent? The Ivy League?"
He paused, teasingly saying, "Or perhaps... the American Genealogy?"
"As American noble blood, I’ve been fully authorized to handle this matter," Liz said calmly, "What I say is equivalent to what the American Genealogy says—"
"See, isn’t that convenient?"
Huai Shi spread his hands, shrugged.
Gave a meaningful glance towards Luo Su behind him: Old Turtle, does this look familiar to you?
These days, everyone’s plans and tactics are identical; such a significant matter handled by a proxy instead of directly?
Just so casually entrusts a task that could define the future relations between the American Genealogy and Heavenly Kingdom Genealogy to two new generations.
It seems overly carefree.
And Luo Su remained in his bear form, smoking, drinking beer, and had somehow found a bucket of popcorn, already eagerly watching the drama unfold.
As if enjoying the commotion: ’Let them fight, let them fight!’
Counting on this old guy is truly unreliable.
Huai Shi shook his head, sighed, and then said to Liz, "In that case, it seems I can bypass you and talk to someone higher up."
"There’s no higher level, Huai Shi," Liz refuted indifferently, "The only person who will talk to you is me."
"Oh, yes there is."
Huai Shi shrugged, his finger supporting the illuminated phone screen, where a phone number spun with Huai Shi’s fingertip.
He said, "For me, there is someone more suitable..."
Liz’s expression froze, then grew colder.
Because above the number page, a face that looked way too young was smiling through the screen with pride.
"Is your Uncle Iz doing well?"
Huai Shi asked with concern, "We’re old acquaintances... Come to think of it, I didn’t expect the High Priest of the living God Mamakiria to stoop so low as to become my friend.
Look, Liz, we always seem to have some fate in strange places."
"Well then, that should disappoint you, Huai Shi," Liz scornfully said, "My uncle may like to fool around, but matters like this, he can’t just act recklessly."
"But he’s easy to talk to!"
Huai Shi spread his hands and exclaimed, "That’s where the difference lies, Liz; since we’re both negotiating with the American Genealogy, why wouldn’t I talk to Mr. Iz? Whether the negotiations succeed or not, our relationship can only improve."
He paused, his smile mischievous, "However, conversely, you probably won’t be too pleased, right?"
