Chapter 512 Cooperation, My Ass

She reached the entrance and immediately spun around with the flatbed cart. A Space Barrier abruptly appeared before her, blocking a stream of superpower bullets that hammered against it with a series of THUDS.

The superpower bullets exploded one after another against the Space Wall. Some released clouds of steam, others burst like fireworks; it was quite a colorful display.

Xie Ning raised an eyebrow and pulled the cart full of mutated children a little further behind the door.

The snake-like girl suddenly raised her enormous head and hissed twice, looking as if she wanted to dash out.

Xie Ning casually pushed her large head back down, her spiritual power spreading out as she flicked out several Metal Knives.

The Metal Knives sliced through the swirling sand and stabbed straight into the chests of two hidden ambushers.

Only when blood began to spread in large patches did they look down in a panic, realizing the holes in their chests were bleeding uncontrollably.

Their dying gasps quickly faded into the wind, and silence fell once more.

Xie Ning was in no hurry to leave the lobby. She pulled the cart over to a nearby sofa and sat down, putting away her Metal Hammer and taking out a thermos for a couple of sips of water.

She turned her head and saw a row of children, big and small, all staring in unison at the thermos in her hands.

"Want some soy milk?" Xie Ning had no idea if this group of dazed-looking children could even understand human speech; she was just asking casually.

To her surprise, the little boy with fluffy fox ears nodded at her.

Xie Ning paused, stunned for a moment. Then, she pulled out a stack of disposable paper cups, took out a thermos of hot soy milk, and poured a small cup for each child.

The little child with a dog’s tail, who had been restless on the cart—straining against his leash and scraping against the metal plate—suddenly shot bolt upright and reached out with both hands to take the soy milk.

Xie Ning blinked, then turned to look them all up and down. "Who’s the leader here?" she asked suddenly.

The snake-like girl lifted her enormous head.

Xie Ning reached out to stroke it. "How about I ask you a few questions? When I’m done, I’ll give you all some cookies."

As she spoke, she pulled a bag of baked butter cookies from her Space.

Just as she’d expected, the children had no resistance to the sweet little cookies, which were embossed with all sorts of patterns.

All their eyes were fixed on the cookies in Xie Ning’s hands, their little paws reaching out for them.

These were the same cookies she had scavenged from the ship back when she rescued Cres.

Young Master Cres, who has a sweet tooth to die for, had stocked an entire ship with all sorts of desserts, almost all of which had ended up in Xie Ning’s possession.

She had been rationing the young master’s sweet intake ever since, keeping him on the constant verge of a tantrum.

Turns out the "I’ll-die-without-sugar" guy was still doing just fine eating his daily meals of vegetables, meat, and eggs. He had even gotten quite a bit taller.

"Do you know who the ambushers outside are?" The snake-like girl lifted her large head and hissed at her.

"So it was those big bad guys outside who brought you all here, wasn’t it?"

The snake-like girl hissed again, this time with a clear note of anger in her voice.

Xie Ning reached out and gently patted the child’s head. She didn’t press further, instead opening the bag of cookies and handing them out.

"You all stay here and be good. I’m going out for a moment, but I’ll be right back."

With those words, Xie Ning stood up, fastened a helmet on her head, and dashed out the door.

The children crawled around the snake-like girl, clearly agitated.

As Xie Ning dashed out the door, she suddenly heard an unfamiliar voice echo in her mind, ’Don’t go.’

Her steps faltered for a fraction of a second, but she was already standing at the entrance of the lab building.

A dense, colorful barrage of superpower bullets immediately converged on her position.

But Xie Ning was incredibly fast. She grabbed a superpower bullet sniper from behind his cover and crushed his throat.

Just then, two Metal Knives slashed out from the side, aiming straight for her back.

Xie Ning almost laughed at the absurdity of their actions.

She kicked one of them in the stomach, a cold smirk playing on her lips. "Trying to cut me with the Metal Knives *I* made?"

’What were they thinking?’

These were the exact same Metal Knives she had used earlier to kill the ambushers.

They had probably found the Metal Knives she made to be quite effective, so now several burly men were wielding them as weapons.

But these ordinary men had no idea just how refined a High-level superpower user’s control over their own superpower could be.

Using Metal Knives made by Xie Ning to attack Xie Ning herself—such a thing was fundamentally impossible.

The moment the knives got near Xie Ning, they dissolved into tiny metal fragments.

The burly men belatedly realized something was wrong, but in an instant, the specks of metal fragments reformed into metal nails the size of screws.

They hung densely in the air—a sight that would make anyone’s skin crawl.

Before they could turn and flee in terror, the metal nails shot whistling toward their bodies.

Before they could even register the searing, bone-deep pain, their bodies were riddled like hornet’s nests. All of them collapsed to the ground, dead.

Their comrades, hidden in the swirling sand, could only stare with wide, terrified eyes.

This was the terrifying power of a High-level Gold Ability User.

Xie Ning threw a Metal Knife backhanded, splitting the oncoming sandstorm as it flew straight toward a specific spot.

The sound of panicked footsteps and a few short, startled cries rang out. Xie Ning’s Spirit Capture detected faint red beams of light.

With lightning reflexes, she threw up a Space Wall to block the laser fire, then rolled on the ground to dodge several more shots.

Xie Ning’s eyes curved into a cold smile. She simply pulled several small metal throwing knives crackling with electricity from her Space and flung them out with a SWOOSH.

Guided by her concentrated spiritual power lock, her targets were hit on the first strike.

Seeing his best men getting cut down one after another by that madwoman, Chen Zhaowei’s heart bled.

"Base Commander, we need to get out of here," his deputy urged, both terrified and frantic. "Let’s live to fight another day, Base Commander!"

Chen Zhaowei stared intently at the madwoman outside the lab building through a pair of high-powered binoculars.

To be more precise, he was staring at the silver, ultra-low-temperature preservation case she was carrying.

"We have to get Zero back."

"Base Commander!" The deputy was on the verge of cursing.

’At a time like this, he’s still going on about Zero? We ran into a monster like her, and we’re about to lose our own necks!’

Chen Zhaowei took a deep breath, grabbed the megaphone someone handed him, and shouted toward Xie Ning in front of the building, "Stop! We’re relief personnel from the Capital! How about we talk?"

His response was a thrown Metal Knife, as swift as the wind, that cut through the swirling sand and flew straight for his heart.

"Base Commander!" several of his men shouted, rushing forward with shields to block it.

The Metal Knife slammed viciously into the shield, actually splitting the refined steel shield in two.

The sight was horrifying to all who witnessed it.

Chen Zhaowei roared, "I want to talk about cooperating!"

’Why is this madwoman so unreasonable? I said I want to talk! Is she incapable of understanding human speech?’

’Cooperate my ass!’

Xie Ning sneered inwardly. She wasn’t about to waste a single breath on him. She unfurled several Metal Wings, took to the sky, and flew through the swirling sand, closing in on Chen Zhaowei and his men.

"Base Commander!" Alarm bells screamed in the deputy’s mind.
