"You! How are you not dead?!"

Hearing someone curse Xie Ning and Xiao Gu, Song You’ai and Song Youzhi were instantly fuming.

"You’re the one who’s dead!" Song Youzhi roared.

"Hah, if even *you’re* not dead, how could anything possibly happen to my Ningning?" Song You’ai chimed in.

Even though they had no idea who this woman was, their first instinct was to fire back an insult.

Xie Ning glanced at the woman who had called out her name.

It was a thin, small girl, her face caked with mud and grime, looking incredibly weathered.

Her voice suggested she was about the same age as Xie Ning, but her face was old and coarse...

She was wearing a tattered, blue-and-white-trimmed tracksuit. Looking closely, Xie Ning did find her a bit familiar.

"Shijun? Is that really you, Shijun?"

Just then, several more men and women with messy hair and the appearance of beggars ran out, staring in utter shock at Song Shijun in the crowd.

Song Shijun looked toward the source of the voice in astonishment. He stared at the man, who was now just skin and bones, and pondered for a long moment before crying out, "You? Gao Dapang? Chubby? Is that you, Chubby?!"

’Damn, just over a year ago, Chubby was a roly-poly—so fat he couldn’t have even fit through a ventilation duct.’

"Sob... Shijun, it’s really you." The boy named Gao Dapang took off, running straight for Song Shijun.

Xie Ning racked her brain for a good half-minute before it suddenly hit her. "It’s you!"

She looked at the girl in the blue and white-trimmed tracksuit. "You’re from... Su City? Su City Second Middle School?"

Chen Jiajia was glaring at Xie Ning, her eyes filled with rage.

’If looks could kill, my X-ray vision would have already burned countless holes through Xie Ning by now.’

’How is this fair?!’

’After more than a year of the apocalypse, this woman hasn’t changed a bit. In fact, she looks even better-off than before.’

’Meanwhile, she and her dad have been running around like stray dogs. They’d just managed to settle down in Gu Shang for half a year when the damned sandstorms swept in.’

Xie Ning curiously sized up Chen Jiajia.

’This girl looks so much older than she did a year ago...’

’Looks like life has really worn her down.’

’But her ridiculous personality hasn’t changed one bit.’

’Logically, after more than a year of this apocalypse, even a dog should have had its rough edges smoothed out by the harsh climate and constant hardships.’

’But apparently, this young lady hadn’t.’

Xie Ning had long forgotten the girl’s name. All she remembered was that her father had awakened a Power-type Superpower.

As for anything else, Xie Ning really couldn’t recall.

’Besides, she had considered them all irrelevant people back then, not worth the effort of remembering.’

"Who is she, Sis?"

"Some people we ran into at the competition venue, back when Mom and I went to Su City to get Junjun at the start of the apocalypse."

"Oh, right, right."

"Then who’s this old hag? A parent?" Song Kexin’s use of the term "old hag" immediately infuriated the woman.

"Who are you calling an old hag?! Who?! Are you blind?! I’m Li Shasha’s mother! My daughter is about your age!"

Xie Ning vaguely recalled a mother and daughter who had been with the father of the girl in the tracksuit.

They were a small group of their own.

’If I remember right, her dad slept with both the mother and the daughter. The memory alone had been enough to thoroughly disgust me.’

"Jiajia."

Hearing the man’s voice, Xie Ning finally remembered: the girl in the blue and white tracksuit was named Chen Jiajia.

’So Chen Jiajia and her father are still alive...’

’It’s been over a year, but it doesn’t look like they’re doing too well.’

"Jiajia, who did you run into?"

Xie Ning looked up, sizing up the dark-skinned, stocky man.

Chen Jiajia’s father, on the other hand, hadn’t changed much from how he looked over a year ago. Xie Ning recognized him at a glance.

"Dad, come look! I found Song Shijun’s sister! The woman who stabbed my arm with a Metal Spike and pointed one at my neck."

Chen Chong looked surprised. He walked over, met Xie Ning’s gaze, and froze on the spot.

In reality, Xie Ning was still wearing a mask and goggles...

Xie Ning was honestly surprised that after more than a year, both Li Shasha’s mother and Chen Jiajia could recognize her at a glance.

’Just how much must they hate me to remember my voice so clearly?’ *Cough, cough*.

"And this young lady is...?"

"Dad, it’s that vicious woman! I’d recognize her even if she were burned to ashes!"

"That’s right, I remember her voice. It’s her—the woman who makes Metal Spikes," Li Shasha’s mother chimed in with a nod.

’Her voice is so soft and gentle, the kind you only hear in Jiangnan, but she’s more ruthless than anyone when she makes a move.’

Chen Chong gave an awkward smile and, showing some sense, pushed his daughter behind him.
