Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival
Chapter 454: Action
Chapter 454: Chapter 450: Action
Some people curiously linked their bracelets right away, crying out in surprise, “Whoa, it’s not a scam.”
“You get a Space just for linking the bracelet for the first time!”
“Huh? Is that for real??” Hearing this, the others nearby hurriedly linked their bracelets, eager to see for themselves.
“You have twenty minutes to familiarize yourselves with the bracelets.” Gu Chen pulled Xie Ning aside and muttered, “The Global Superpower Academy just won’t quit. They even custom-made a bracelet just for you. Ningning, maybe we should just throw it away?”
“Throw it away? Why? That would be a waste.” Xie Ning winked at him. “You forgot, I have Little Spider.”
“I’ll take the bracelet into my Space later and have Little Spider check it for me.”
“If there are no problems, I’ll try linking it. Who knows, maybe the Global Superpower Academy is trying to curry favor with me and gave me a super-large Dimensional Space?”
Gu Chen hummed softly. “In that case, you’d better have Little Spider check it several times. Don’t let your guard down and fall into their trap.”
“Don’t worry.” Xie Ning made an OK sign and glanced over at the excited crowd.
Her gaze landed on the fool, Li Xiang, who was yelling in excitement…
“I did it! Whoa, Bro, Bro, look! I opened my Dimensional Space! Can you see it? Bro?”
“I see it, I see it! Did you see my Space? Hahaha, from now on, we’ll have our own Spaces too! Hahahaha, we can finally store stuff!”
Standing behind the siblings, Ge Yan shot them a look as if they were a pair of idiots, pursing her lips. “It’s a Space the size of a cookie tin, and look how thrilled you are.”
“What would you know? Someone like you with a huge space could never understand how desperately normal people want a Personal Space!”
“Yeah, that’s right!” Li Xiang huffed. “It’s easy for you to say since you’re not the one affected! Even if we could only fit a single keychain in our Personal Space, we’d still treasure it!”
Uncle Ge Liang joined his daughter Ge Yan in rolling his eyes.
“Why are they here?” Xie Ning was exasperated.
‘It’s true, I can’t get rid of that leech Li Dawei no matter where I go, can I…’
Gu Chen suppressed a laugh. “Comrade Li Xiang’s visual superpower is quite useful. The higher-ups personally invited the Fierce Tiger Squad to join this operation.”
Xie Ning nodded silently. “Besides us and Li Dawei’s group, are there other teams this time?”
“Yes. Besides you, there are seven other Superpower Teams.” As he said this, Gu Chen’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
“The logistics department finalized the list. I only got it an hour ago myself. I didn’t expect the Swift Leopard Team to be on it.”
Xie Ning raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t they split up?”
“Yes, Zhuang Jia and his group left, but Zhuang Lei recruited a few new members for the Swift Leopard Team within days.”
“Lin Yiyi from their team seems to have some kind of Beast Taming Power. The higher-ups are placing a lot of importance on her this time,” Gu Chen said in a low voice.
“Ningning, if you don’t want to see them, I can…”
Xie Ning waved her hand dismissively, a nonchalant look on her face. “They’re just people I’ve beaten before. As long as they know to steer clear of me, I won’t cause them any trouble.”
“Boyfriend, relax. I’m magnanimous enough for that. Don’t you worry. With me here, we’ll definitely complete this mission successfully.” Xie Ning reached out and gave his chest a few playful pats, drawing a soft chuckle from him.
“Mhm, my girlfriend’s the best.”
The members of Team A stood in a line behind them, expressionlessly watching the couple’s public display of affection.
‘Are you trying to kill us? Have a little consideration for the feelings of us single people, will you?’
One of the members couldn’t help but remind him in a low voice, “Captain, the twenty minutes are almost up.”
Gu Chen turned his head, only to see his teammates, all with deadpan expressions, looking back at him innocently.
“All right, time’s up. Move out.”
At Gu Chen’s command, the members of the base’s official Superpower Team took the lead, moving toward the exit in a neat and orderly fashion.
Xie Ning took a quick glance and saw a massive sea of people.
Nearly seven hundred people were heading to Gushang Base—that was the number Gu Chen had given her.
The travel time to Gushang Base was uncertain.
The preparations for this trip were exceptionally thorough. Two armored vehicles led the convoy, followed by a fleet of military vehicles that had been expertly modified for the post-apocalyptic world.
Xie Ning and the other members of the Starfire Team were assigned to a modified and reinforced minibus.
Shortly after they were seated, Xie Ning used the commotion as cover to pull the two elders into her Space.
The group chatted and laughed amongst themselves.
Not even two minutes later, a driver came aboard and greeted them with a smile.
“Captain Xie, you can just call me Xiao Wu. The captain sent me to drive. I look forward to working with you all.”
“Xiao Wu, you’re in Team A too? We don’t see you around much,” Song You’ai asked curiously.
Xiao Wu chuckled sheepishly. “I don’t have much experience, so I don’t usually go out on missions.”
“Okay, okay, we’ll get to know each other better as we talk.”
“With so many vehicles and this huge dust storm, won’t we get separated?”
“Nope, we’ve all pre-set our navigation. Plus, we’ve been issued these blasted bracelets from the X Realm. The captain had us all join a location-sharing group. Oh, right, speaking of which, Aunt Song, Uncle Song, Captain Xie, you should all join the main mission group chat.”
As he spoke, the young man conjured an electronic panel out of thin air, revealing something that looked like a QR code.
“How do we join? By scanning it?” The group gathered around curiously. “What do we scan it with?!”
“No, no, you just have to come over and tap it with your bracelet.”
“Wow, that’s pretty advanced.”
“Right? The X Realm’s little gadgets are decent, but they pull a lot of shady moves too.”
“Everyone should still be careful about protecting your personal information. Don’t upload just anything to the X Realm’s system.”
“Okay, okay.” Song You’ai and the others found it all very novel. They lined up to tap the electronic panel Xiao Wu had conjured, and soon received a notification on their bracelets.
Xie Ning watched her family with exasperation, not moving from her spot.
Xiao Wu didn’t insist that she join the group. He also didn’t say a word about not seeing the two elders from the Starfire Team after boarding, just pretending he hadn’t noticed.
‘He remembered his older brother’s words perfectly: ‘Once you’re on the bus, just focus on driving. Don’t worry about anything else. You are not responsible for the Starfire Team’s safety.’
‘Eat whatever Aunt Song gives you. Do whatever Captain Xie tells you to do. And as for any strange things you might see or notice, just swallow it and keep it to yourself.’
Xiao Wu felt his brother was right. All he needed to do was ride their coattails and not overthink things.
Xie Ning turned her head to look out the window at the gray, hazy expanse.
The vehicles were parked not far from the shelter entrance.
But due to the sheer number of people, many had to walk a long distance just to board their assigned vehicles.
Li Xiang, covered in grime, wiped the dust from his forehead and spat twice. “Where are the people from the Starfire Team?”
“Yeah! Weren’t we supposed to be traveling with the Starfire Team?”
