Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 380: Selection Game 10
Once the mission progress reached eight percent, Perry Yates figured that the weaker Croupiers had mostly been killed by the Executors, while the remaining ones now possessed considerable combat power and survival skills.
That was why after hitting eight percent, the mission’s progress began to climb much faster than before, soon reaching fifteen percent.
Perry Yates unlocked two cards: Bicolor Rose and Yin Yang Balance.
Bicolor Rose was one of her most frequently used cards, so unlocking it was a given. As for Yin Yang Balance, it possessed no combat power on its own; its primary function was to balance the various attributes within Perry Yates’s body, allowing them to coexist peacefully.
"Have you guys noticed? None of the Executors we’ve run into lately have been coming for us," Amber Sheridan said.
"I noticed that too. They all seem to be heading in the same direction."
After speaking, Dylan Adler turned to Perry Yates. "Perry, do you have any way of knowing their intentions?"
Perry Yates blinked, wondering if she’d heard him right. "I’m not a mind reader. How am I supposed to know what’s going on? I’d need at least a clue to even make a guess, and right now I don’t have a single one."
’Does this guy think I’m some kind of god? That I can do anything?’
In fact, that was exactly the case.
Although it wasn’t always obvious, all the players from Drakonia had come to rely on Perry Yates—or more accurately, on the owner of The Card Tavern.
Over time, the owner of The Card Tavern had cultivated an image of being unfathomable and omnipotent. It seemed that no matter what difficulties they faced, she could always calmly produce a solution.
If Perry Yates knew what Dylan Adler was thinking at that moment, she would have told him to take a good look at their surroundings. She only had two item cards in total. ’What am I supposed to do?’
The only reason she’d seemed so composed before was because she had plenty of cards. Now...
’Wait, maybe there is a way after all.’
"001, can you hack into the Executors’ Sky Eye System?"
After a long pause, 001 gave an ambiguous reply: [I can try.]
"Then give it a try."
Perry Yates didn’t mention this to the others, lest she get their hopes up for nothing.
Just then, another Executor passed overhead. It had a massive body covered in silvery-white armor and looked very similar to the dragons of Western legend.
The three of them weren’t hiding, but the Executor showed no intention of attacking, flying straight over their heads.
’Did it not see us? Or did it see us but chose not to engage because it had something more urgent to do?’
Perry Yates felt the latter was more likely.
"Let’s go. Follow it."
As she spoke, Perry Yates applied Wargod Kai to the three of them, then activated the Silver Cross.
With the cover of the Silver Cross, they weren’t invisible, but it was even better. After its Ascension to level five, the item’s ability had changed from merely reducing their presence to completely erasing it.
However, because the erasure was so thorough, when the item was fully active—as it was now—enemies couldn’t attack them, but they couldn’t attack enemies either.
The trio followed the Executor, moving quickly in an unknown direction. Soon, they noticed more and more Executors appearing around them, all seemingly heading for the same destination.
After traveling for some time, they suddenly heard the sounds of a fierce battle up ahead.
Amber Sheridan saw a flash of blue light streak across the sky. The next second, two Executors lost their lives and fell, crashing to the ground and kicking up clouds of dust.
Seeing this, Amber Sheridan grew excited. "It’s Master Ford! He’s here!"
Perry Yates had the best eyesight of the three, and with the enhancement from 001, she quickly figured out what was happening.
"There’s a stone pillbox up ahead. That last attack came from inside it."
Hearing this, both Amber Sheridan and Dylan Adler looked surprised.
"A pillbox? Built by players?"
Perry Yates nodded. "Looks like it. I vaguely saw the silhouettes of people on it. It was just for an instant, but I’m sure they were people."
While the three of them were talking, Executors in the sky continued to die, but they weren’t completely defenseless.
The dragon Executor they had been following opened its mouth and spewed a torrent of blue fire, destroying half of the pillbox’s wall in the blink of an eye. Several players died in its attack.
Perry Yates sharply noticed that the dragon Executor seemed to be carrying something in its claws. After those players died, the object flashed a few times.
One thing flashed through her mind—a Point Counter.
’That was it. Since this was a hunting competition, the Executors, who were the Hunters, must have something to record their hunting scores.’
Perry Yates thought of the mission progress bar. ’Is this the players’ version of a Point Counter?’
’Whatever,’ she thought. ’I’ll stop overthinking it. I should deal with the dragon first.’
With that, Perry Yates gave a look to her two companions, who understood her intent instantly.
Once she saw they had both found cover, Perry deactivated the Silver Cross’s ability. The next second, several thorny vines as thick as water barrels erupted from the ground. They grew rapidly, quickly entangling the fire-breathing dragon Executor.
The vines continued to grow, gradually spreading over the dragon Executor’s entire body.
With a blood-curdling scream, blood trickled down the green leaves and dripped onto the roses below, making the already vibrant flowers even more brilliant.
Beneath the red sky, a colossal rose bloomed with abandon, its entire form exuding a deadly beauty.
Upon seeing this, the surrounding Executors showed no intention of helping their comrade. Instead, they began searching everywhere for Perry Yates.
But by then, her group had already used the Any Door to arrive inside the pillbox, where they finally met Ethan Fuller as they had hoped.
Besides Ethan Fuller, Reina Quinn was also here, along with several other powerful individuals who looked vaguely familiar to Perry Yates.
’I must have invited them to the auction before,’ she realized. ’That’s why they feel familiar.’
