Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 181: Hide-and-Seek Challenge 3
Megatron’s death seemed to ignite the Hunter squad’s fury, making them launch another indiscriminate attack.
And yet, the final result...
Perry Yates herself was fine, and she hadn’t heard any system announcements about the other two players being eliminated. Instead, the Hunters had wasted another fifteen minutes of their own time. Now, less than fifteen minutes remained.
On the ground below, Megatron’s owner stood with bloodshot eyes, his gaze sweeping viciously around him like a vengeful specter.
"Sparrow, calm down."
Sensing that he was on the verge of madness, one of the others tried to reason with him, but it was clearly no use.
Sparrow turned to face the man and said, word by word, "I must avenge Megatron. None of you try to stop me!"
With that, a red card appeared in his hand.
It was a Tracking Card, capable of finding a person based on the user’s intent, regardless of their location.
Meanwhile, Perry Yates, who had been observing the situation through the surrounding flora, realized they were about to use a card.
She wasn’t sure what the card did, but her intuition screamed that she couldn’t let them succeed. Therefore...
Perry Yates silently channeled her power. Instantly, the plants around the Hunters began to grow wildly, completely encircling them in less than a second.
There weren’t many plants on the surface, but ever since the game had started, Perry Yates had been manipulating their root systems, making them grow rapidly and spread through every inch of the subterranean soil.
It was precisely because of this preparation that Perry Yates’s attack was so swift and precise.
"This is bad! They’ve been watching us from the shadows this whole time!"
The Hunters began to struggle violently.
They were only plants, after all. No matter how tough, they could be broken with enough strength. But that would take time.
And the time they needed to break free from the vines was more than enough for Perry Yates to make her move.
Any Doors materialized around them. Immediately after, countless sharp spikes formed from Obsidian emerged from within.
With a mere thought from Perry Yates, the Obsidian spikes shot out instantly.
SQUELCH! SQUELCH!
The sound of sharp objects piercing flesh echoed all around. Bright red blood splattered out, rapidly staining the ground and filling the air with a metallic stench.
’Originally, my only target was the one who just used the card,’ Perry Yates thought. ’But on second thought, if I’m killing one, I might as well kill them all. Why not take care of them all at once?’
’Most importantly, they’re already restrained and can’t break free anytime soon.’
As it turned out, Perry Yates’s decision was the right one. She had eliminated all the Hunters in one fell swoop.
The Hunters never expected Perry Yates to launch such a sudden attack. Perhaps her use of plants had given them a preconceived notion, making them assume this Croupier’s primary attribute was Wood.
As is well known, Wood Attribute Skills are generally milder compared to other attributes.
However, that single moment of carelessness cost them their lives.
[Hunter Sparrow has died]
[Hunter...]
[Current survivors: 3 Players, 0 Hunters, 1 Croupier]
Hearing the system prompt, Perry Yates breathed a sigh of relief. Now all she had to do was wait for this round of the game to end.
What Perry Yates didn’t know, however, was that the entire scene had just been broadcast live by one of the two remaining players.
Although speaking in-game was forbidden—it would give away your position—live-streaming was perfectly fine. It was a profitable business, too; the donations from a single game stream could equal a normal person’s yearly salary.
The viewers in the live-stream chat were in an uproar.
(Whoa, I tune into the stream and immediately see something this explosive!)
(An instant kill! Who was that just now?)
(All hail the master!)
(Just heard the system prompt. There’s a Croupier in this round! The streamer is getting a free carry!)
Everyone knows people have a love-hate relationship with Croupiers. When they’re your teammate, you have a high chance of coasting to an easy victory—assuming you don’t do anything stupid to get yourself killed. But if one is your opponent, you’d better pray they aren’t the bloodthirsty type.
(Now that all the Hunters have been dealt with, can the streamer get a closer look at them? I’ll gift you ten Constant Star Shinings if you do.)
(Wow, what a whale! Dropping ten Constant Star Shinings just like that. I’m in awe.)
(Yeah, yeah! Streamer, go take a look! You might be able to scavenge something.)
Goaded on by the one-sided conversation in the chat, the hiding player actually dared to show himself.
Just then, Perry Yates noticed his presence. But with all the Hunters eliminated, she didn’t pay him much mind.
’He actually turned into a puddle of water,’ she mused. ’No wonder he was able to dodge the attack.’
At the same time, the player Donovan Wyatt approached the area with the Hunters’ corpses but didn’t dare get too close. The ground was soaked in blood, and as a puddle of water, he couldn’t get near it.
He first scanned the area but saw no trace of any cards. He couldn’t help but sigh, saying to his viewers, "Just as I thought. Scavenging isn’t so easy."
He had known it from the start, but facing the reality of it, he still couldn’t help but sigh in disappointment.
At this, the live-stream chat absolutely exploded.
(Holy crap, that’s the Viper Squad! They’ve been making a name for themselves recently. And they got completely wiped out here!)
(Their bodies are riddled with holes like sieves. What a gruesome way to die.)
(That’s a Dealer Player for you. They either don’t make a move, or they make it this explosive.)
As a participant, Donovan Wyatt felt the impact even more deeply. He said slowly, "Actually, that master Croupier only killed the dog, Megatron, at first. But one of the Hunters got enraged and insisted on finding the attacker, even preparing to use a four-star card. I think that’s what triggered the Croupier to act."
"Otherwise, it’s impossible to explain why someone with the ability to instantly kill all the Hunters would silently endure a full forty-five minutes of them running wild and bombarding the area."
"As for Megatron... in a fight, if the enemy has a dog, you always take out the dog first. Only someone who’s been on the receiving end knows how much trouble they can be."
(Based on my analysis, that Dealer Player must have used more than one Card Ability to kill them. And the cards weren’t low-level either, at least three-star.)
(Mainly Wood Attribute, supplemented by Earth and spatial attributes. Tsk, another tough one.)
