Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 584 - 574: Sound Source Pollution 26
They drove down the road, drawing a lot of stares along the way.
When a third person tried to rush in front of their car to stop them, Moira Lynch realized something was wrong. She pulled out a bottle of disinfectant from behind her and sprayed it all over the car seats.
Then, she took out a bottle of floral water and sprayed it liberally on herself and Hugh Finch.
After she did all that, the unsettling stares finally vanished, and no one tried to stop their car anymore.
Just then, Moira Lynch noticed a familiar figure in the distance being dragged into an alley.
"Stop the car!"
With a screech of tires, Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch jumped out of the car and rushed into the alley.
Inside the alley, a group of about a dozen people were each clutching something that looked like a chunk of meat, gnawing on it.
This was the bizarre scene that greeted Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch when they arrived.
"Young Lynn, Mr. Finch, help me!"
A familiar voice came from a corner.
At the sight, Hugh Finch immediately drew the Gun of Destruction, taking the attackers down one by one, while sharp spikes began to form in Moira Lynch’s hands.
In less than a minute, the battle was over.
The chunks of meat they had been gnawing on seemed to gain a will of their own, moving toward a certain spot.
After a few minutes, a naked young man appeared in the corner. He was covered in bite marks of all sizes and in a completely wretched state.
It was none other than Barry Wallace.
"How did you end up here?"
He curled up, trying to cover his private parts. "Young Lynn," he said plaintively, "can we skip the questions for now? Could you get my clothes for me?"
Hearing this, Moira Lynch glanced at the tattered shreds of cloth tossed to the side. They were completely unwearable.
In the end, Moira Lynch took a bath towel out of her Space Button and gave it to him.
And so, Barry Wallace stumbled along behind them back to the car.
Back in the car, Moira Lynch looked at the grisly marks on his body. There were dozens of bite marks, to say the least.
Moreover, these weren’t love bites. Each one was deeper than the last, clearly made with the intent to tear off flesh.
The wound on his arm was a case in point—it was obviously a bite, and the teeth marks were still clearly visible.
Human teeth are covered in all sorts of bacteria. A wound like that would definitely get infected if not treated immediately.
A ball of white flame appeared in Moira Lynch’s hand.
The flame detached from her fingertips and wobbled through the air toward Barry Wallace.
As the flame entered his body, Barry Wallace, who had been in unbearable pain, suddenly felt a warm current spread through him, and the pain vanished instantly.
By the time he came to his senses, the wounds on his body had disappeared, without even leaving a single scar.
Moreover, he wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he felt his skin had gotten much fairer.
"Your Healing Talent seems to have gotten a lot stronger," said Hugh Finch.
"It hasn’t gotten stronger. I’ve just become more proficient with it," Moira Lynch explained.
Just then, certain that he had fully recovered, Barry Wallace said gratefully, "Thank you. You’ve saved my life again."
"Don’t mention it. Can you tell us what happened just now?" Moira Lynch asked.
Barry Wallace said, "After we parted ways the other day, I went home. Once I was there, I suddenly realized my sensitivity to noise was completely gone. I figured it might be related to awakening a talent, so I decided to sell off the stash of headphones I’d collected to make some cash. I finally got in touch with a buyer today. I was just heading to the meeting spot to scout it out first. But as soon as I stepped outside, a group of people surrounded me, saying I smelled delicious. At first, I thought they were just looking for trouble, but I never expected..."
If Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch hadn’t appeared, he would have been eaten alive.
Thinking about it now, he was overcome with belated terror.
Even though he’d been torn apart, he could still feel the pain. The sensation of teeth biting down, piercing his skin and sinking into his flesh—the memory was seared into his mind.
"Young Lynn, do you guys know why those people are acting like that?" Barry Wallace asked.
Moira Lynch shook her head. "We’re not sure either. The only thing we can be certain of is that to those people out there, we must be like... an antidote."
Her mind flashed back to the person who had suddenly blocked their car a few days ago.
"An antidote? What antidote? Are these people poisoned or something?" Barry Wallace asked in confusion.
"It’s not poison. It’s an apocalypse. Your planet is undergoing an apocalypse, and if this goes badly, your entire race could be wiped out."
At first, Barry Wallace thought they were joking. But then he thought about everything that had happened recently, and he couldn’t help but believe that they might be telling the truth.
Thinking of this, he quickly realized that Moira Lynch had consistently used the word "your."
His eyes went wide. "You guys... you’re not actually aliens, are you?!"
Then he let out a laugh, talking to himself. "How is that possible? You look exactly like us. How could you be aliens?"
"Oh, but it’s true. And we only look similar. We’re not actually the same."
This time, Moira Lynch’s voice resounded directly in his mind.
Barry Wallace froze on the spot for several minutes, so long that Moira Lynch started to wonder if he’d been scared witless.
After a long while, he finally came to his senses and screamed excitedly, "You guys are actually..."
Before he could finish speaking, Moira Lynch stuffed a wad of tissues in his mouth, muffling the rest of his words.
"Do you have to be so loud? Do you want the whole world to know?"
Barry Wallace clamped both hands tightly over his mouth, but he couldn’t hide the excitement and thrill shining in his eyes.
After another long while, Barry Wallace finally calmed down completely, but his voice still trembled a little when he spoke.
"Sorry, I was just too excited. I never thought I would actually meet aliens in my lifetime."
And at such close range, too.
"Oh, right, what are you guys doing here? Are you on a secret mission? What is this apocalypse you mentioned? Does it have something to do with you? What’s your planet like? Is it like in the movies?"
Barry Wallace asked several questions in one breath.
Moira Lynch answered his questions one by one. "First, we are here on a mission, but it’s a survival mission, not a secret one. Second, an apocalypse is an apocalypse. To be honest, I don’t really know what it is either, and it certainly has nothing to do with us. Our planet is just as unlucky as yours—it’s also going through an apocalypse, but we’ve already found a solution. Third, I haven’t seen any of the movies here."
