Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 580 - 570: Body Source Pollution 22

"Why?" the police officer asked curiously.

"Because you’ll get tired of even the best perfume someday. But you only use a spritz or two each time, and every bottle has several hundred milliliters—when would you ever finish it? That’s why for perfume, it’s better to buy testers or samples. They’re cheap and you don’t waste any. Of course, if you’re rich and don’t mind wasting it, then just ignore what I said."

After arriving at the police station, nearly everyone they passed stared at them.

Moira Lynch kept hearing people mutter the two words, "Smells good."

"Something’s not right," Moira Lynch whispered to Hugh Finch, growing wary.

Amidst all the compliments of "Smells good," a different voice suddenly cut in. "The scent on those two is just like yours. Are you all using the same perfume?"

"I’ve told you so many times, I’m not wearing perfume. You must be smelling things."

"Right, right, we’re smelling things. It’s your natural body scent, happy now, my Fragrant Consort?"

"You..."

Moira Lynch followed the voices and saw two female police officers joking around.

The officer being teased was blushing, and a very subtle fluctuation emanated from her body.

「Two hours later.」

The two of them walked out of the police station.

Inside, they had met the man’s family. They were deeply apologetic for the trouble the man had caused them and promised to cover repair costs and compensation for emotional distress.

But the two of them refused.

After leaving the police station, they returned to their car.

"Find anything?" Hugh Finch asked.

"I want to go to the mall and buy perfume," Moira Lynch said suddenly.

"Perfume? You think there’s something wrong with that officer just now?"

Moira Lynch shook her head. "It’s not the officer. I think there’s something wrong with *everyone* who thought we smelled good. One person thinking we smell good could be a mistake, but if everyone thinks so, then there’s definitely a problem."

"And that man from before... I don’t know if it was my imagination, but I felt like he wanted to *eat* me. And what he said as they took him away—’antidote.’ Are we the antidote? An antidote for what? And how was he so sure we were it?"

The original plan was to go to the mall.

But on the way there, they passed a supermarket, and Moira Lynch suddenly changed her mind.

She went into the supermarket and bought out their entire stock of floral water and 84 Disinfectant. This stuff was way more potent than perfume, and a lot cheaper, too.

"I remember... didn’t we have some hazmat suits among the things we brought back?"

Back in the car, Moira Lynch started rummaging through the items in her Space Button.

A moment later, she pulled a silver-white rectangular case from the Space Button. Inside were the hazmat suits.

According to the description, the suits had the latest air filtration systems, capable of completely isolating the wearer from the outside world.

Most importantly, they didn’t hinder movement.

Moira Lynch took out all the hazmat suits, divided them evenly between the two Space Buttons, and then handed one back to Hugh Finch.

"Just in case."

The two didn’t abandon their original plan. They drove their car, cruising down every single street.

When they came across a small road not marked on the map, they would occasionally stop the car, walk in to check it out, see if it was a dead end, and then mark it on their map.

By nightfall, they had only covered less than a third of the roads.

Looking at the markings she’d made on the map, she couldn’t help but sigh. "I never realized the roads in Portmire were such a maze. It would be really fun to play hide-and-seek here."

Back at the hotel, the receptionist suddenly called out to them.

"A guest on the twenty-fifth floor was asking about you two."

"Asking about us? What did she ask?" Moira Lynch inquired.

The receptionist answered honestly, not holding anything back. "She said she was a relative of yours and had something very important to discuss, so she wanted your room number. May I ask what your relationship is with this Ms. Luna Morgan?"

"Don’t know her."

"Not acquainted."

Just as the two were about to leave, the receptionist called out to them again, asking shyly, "Um, can I ask what brand of body wash you use? I’d love to try it myself."

Hearing this, Moira Lynch just smiled faintly, named a random brand, and added, "When you use it, just add a little Liu Shen Floral Water."

"Add Liu Shen Floral Water to body wash?"

Clearly, the receptionist had never imagined such a bizarre combination.

But Moira Lynch said with a completely straight face, "That’s right, Liu Shen Floral Water. It’s my secret recipe. Not only will you smell amazing, but it also repels mosquitoes."

The receptionist nodded, half-convinced.

On the stairs back up, Hugh Finch said, "Aren’t you worried she’ll try it and then come looking for you tomorrow to settle the score?"

"Why would she? I wasn’t lying. It really does smell good. I used to add Liu Shen Floral Water to my body wash every summer. It works great."

Back in their room, the two washed up quickly and went to bed. They had covered a lot of ground today, after all.

「Day 11 of the game.」

As usual, Moira Lynch turned on the TV to watch the morning news.

[#This Morning, Man Commits Arson in Public, Injuring Eleven, Subdued by Two Teenage Girls#]

The still image on the news showed a girl who looked to be thirteen or fourteen, dressed in a school uniform with her hair in two pigtails, giving the arsonist a shoulder throw.

Beside her stood another girl with a fierce expression.

The main point was that the arsonist was a burly, barrel-chested man who looked incredibly strong.

If she hadn’t seen this picture on the news, she would have assumed it was photoshopped.

She might have even complained that they didn’t even know how to make a photoshop look realistic.

’It’s almost certain. Those two girls must have awakened their talents. Probably some kind of strength-type talent.’

Today, the two of them planned to continue what they started yesterday: covering the remaining two-thirds of the Portmire map.

To finish this goal sooner, they set out early today.

Before leaving, one of them doused himself in Liu Shen Floral Water, while the other drenched herself in 84 Disinfectant.

"Isn’t this a bit overkill? Besides, based on just a few comments from those people yesterday, we can’t even be sure it’s really about the scent," Hugh Finch said, sniffing himself and making a disgusted face.

Honestly, he didn’t even want these clothes anymore.

"Better safe than sorry. Just deal with it," Moira Lynch said.
