Chapter 577 - 567: Sound Source Pollution 19

A man came down the stairs. Seeing the three people in the stairwell, his eyes were fierce and his tone was vicious. "Which one of you was just talking so damn loud?!"

The man pointed a finger at the three of them, looking as if he would rush over and beat someone up the second he got an answer.

Seeing his reaction, Moira Lynch realized he likely had an extreme sensitivity to noise. Just as she was about to speak, Luna Morgan beside her piped up first. "It wasn’t me! It has nothing to do with me. They were the ones who couldn’t control their volume. I tried to tell them, but they wouldn’t listen."

The more she spoke, the more aggrieved she sounded, until her voice was even tinged with tears.

’Such acting,’ Moira thought. ’If I wasn’t the one being framed, I might have actually believed her.’

"It wasn’t me," Moira Lynch stated, her face expressionless.

Hearing this, Luna Morgan said excitedly, "You’re lying! It was obviously you."

The moment the words left her mouth, she realized her mistake. Feeling the man’s gaze land on her, Luna Morgan swallowed hard and instantly deflated. Still, she denied making the noise and remained determined to pin the blame on Moira Lynch.

"Fine, let’s say it was me. What was the reason? Why would I be shouting here?"

Seeing Moira Lynch actually admit it, Luna Morgan couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. A sense of smugness welled up inside her. ’Young people these days are so proud,’ she thought. ’She actually admitted it just like that.’

’But this is good, too. Saves me the trouble.’

Her eyes landed on the things on the floor, and a plan instantly formed in her mind. "Isn’t it obvious?" she said. "You bought too much stuff and wanted my help carrying it. I didn’t want to help, so you flew into a rage and started shouting."

"It’s not my place to say, but you look young, little girl. Don’t take other people’s help for granted, or you’ll end up learning the hard way."

Luna Morgan adopted the posture of an elder lecturing a junior.

Hearing this, Moira Lynch nodded in complete agreement. "You’re right. I’ll take that to heart."

Moira Lynch’s reaction wasn’t what she had expected.

Not only was she not flying into a rage, but she didn’t seem to have any intention of refuting the claim at all. Luna Morgan was taken aback. For some reason, a bad feeling suddenly rose in her heart.

Sure enough, as she watched, Moira Lynch first gave the man a very apologetic smile and said softly, "I’m truly sorry about what just happened. I’ll be mindful of my volume in the future so I don’t disturb your rest again. As for this time, please accept these noise-canceling headphones as my apology."

Moira Lynch’s voice was like a pair of gentle hands, softly soothing the man’s agitated mood and restoring his frayed sanity.

With his reason returned, the man quickly noticed the holes in Luna Morgan’s story. His gaze toward her turned hostile.

But seeing the noise-canceling headphones Moira Lynch was offering, the man chose not to expose her lie.

"In that case, don’t let it happen again."

The man said, taking the noise-canceling headphones.

Seeing this, Luna Morgan, who was standing to the side, wanted to step forward and stop them. After all, those things were hers! How could this person just give them away without her permission?

Just then, Hugh Finch suddenly appeared in front of her. A faint smile was on his face as he said, "Miss Morgan, what do you think you’re doing? My sister has already apologized."

Meeting Hugh Finch’s narrow, upturned eyes—though they held a hint of a smile—sent an instantaneous chill down Luna Morgan’s spine.

"Alright, brother, don’t scare Miss Morgan. She was only looking out for us. We should handle our own business. Let’s go back."

With that, Moira Lynch deftly picked up the two large bags from the floor and started up the stairs, taking them two at a time.

Hugh Finch followed close behind.

By the time Luna Morgan snapped out of her daze, the two of them had already vanished up the stairs.

Only then did she remember to give chase. After all, she had spent a fortune on all that stuff.

Just as she was about to run after them, another obstacle appeared out of nowhere.

The man from before reached out an arm to block Luna Morgan’s path.

Luna Morgan stared at the noise-canceling headphones in the man’s hand. Those were the latest model, which she had spent a hundred thousand on, and that little brat had just given them away.

And now, because of what she’d said earlier, she didn’t even have an excuse to take them back.

"Sir, could you please let me pass?" Luna Morgan said, forcibly suppressing the rage in her heart.

"No." The man’s tone was flippant. "I’m only just now noticing how beautiful Miss Morgan is. How about we go to my room for a drink?" As he spoke, he dangled the headphones in his hand. "Don’t you want these back?"

Hearing the man’s words, a conflicted look appeared in Luna Morgan’s eyes.

From her current position, there were still ten floors above. She had no way of knowing which floor those two were on. Besides, from the twenty-sixth floor up, it was all presidential suites. Not just anyone could go up there—only those with a key card.

’And even if I did find them,’ she thought, ’could I really get my things back from them?’

She thought about what had just happened.

There were security cameras in the stairwell, but the one on their floor was broken, which was why she had dared to tell such a barefaced lie.

’But now, without any evidence, they can just pretend they don’t know me.’

For the first time, Luna Morgan truly understood what it felt like to be hoist by her own petard. It really hurt.

"Fine, I’ll go with you!"

Luna Morgan made her decision and said to the man.

But what she was really thinking was, ’I’ll get back what I can. Besides, this man can also serve as a witness for me.’

Meanwhile, Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch returned to their room with the goods.

After closing the door, neither of them could hold back their laughter.

"Our luck is pretty good today. We got all this stuff for free," Moira Lynch said excitedly.

"When you walked off with her things, the look on that Luna Morgan’s face... she was about to explode," Hugh Finch said.

Moira Lynch snorted. "Serves her right. That’s what she gets for twisting the truth and framing me."

After speaking, she went to the sofa and opened the two bags.

The bags were huge, like the woven plastic sacks used for moving.

After opening the first bag, she found it was packed to the brim with all sorts of food—all of it high-calorie and easy to store.

Moira Lynch gave it a cursory look before setting it aside.

It was the second bag that interested her.

The noise-canceling headphones she’d given the man had come from this bag.

And inside the bag, there were several more pairs of the same model of noise-canceling headphones.

Moira Lynch counted them—five in total. Besides those, she also saw some other very familiar items.
