Chapter 557 - 547: Revealing Her Identity

"The system didn’t specify what the trial would be. Judging by his reaction, it seems the Cosmic Consciousness wouldn’t allow it. However, from his tone, I’ve determined it’s likely related to the games. Our next three games will probably send us to extremely dangerous places, so we’d better prepare ourselves mentally."

"Also, I’ve performed divinations on both choices these past few days. In short, neither outcome looks good. We have to be extremely careful."

Regarding Hugh Finch’s words, they had already braced themselves for this when they decided to face the situation head-on.

Besides, looking on the bright side, while Hugh Finch had said the outcomes weren’t good, he hadn’t said it was hopeless. This meant they still had a chance of survival.

Then, the three of them turned to look at Moira Lynch in unison.

"Um, I think I need to confess a secret to you all. But before I say it, you have to be mentally prepared. Please don’t freak out."

Moira Lynch’s words were directed mainly at Shane Rhodes and Kai York.

"What is it? Why so serious?" At this point, Kai York still hadn’t grasped the gravity of the situation. "But, speaking of which, why is it the four of us and not five? SoySauceDrunkard is way stronger than we are. At least *we* haven’t accomplished the grand feat of wiping out an entire country."

Moira Lynch: ...She felt a little offended.

"Because I am SoySauceDrunkard."

...

The moment she finished speaking, both Shane Rhodes and Kai York froze instantly, their arms hanging in mid-air. Only Hugh Finch, who already knew the truth, remained composed.

Their expressions shifted from initial confusion to sheer horror and shock as they met Moira Lynch’s steady gaze.

Kai York shot up from his chair and pointed a trembling finger at Moira Lynch, unable to utter a single word for a long moment.

Shane Rhodes was slightly more composed than Kai York. When he caught sight of the completely calm Hugh Finch out of the corner of his eye, he asked, "You’re so calm. Don’t tell me you knew all along."

Hugh Finch’s smile looked a little guilty. He then pinched his thumb and forefinger close together. "I only found out a tiny bit earlier than you."

After saying that, Hugh Finch decisively threw her under the bus. "She was the one who wanted to keep it a secret, so I didn’t tell you. Besides, I only found out by accident. If not for that, I’d probably be just like you, kept in the dark this whole time."

Moira Lynch was thoroughly disgusted by Hugh Finch’s shameless act of selling out a teammate and shot him a resentful glare.

Hugh, in return, gave her a look that said, ’You’re on your own,’ before quickly averting his gaze.

’As they say, better you than me. Moira, I’m sorry. I’ll be praying for you in my heart.’

’The boss and Kai won’t kill you, but if it were me, it’d be a different story.’

Facing the stares of Shane Rhodes and Kai York, Moira Lynch lowered her head guiltily and mumbled, "You can’t blame me entirely. With a secret this big, the fewer people who know, the better. Besides, we weren’t close when we first met, and after we got to know each other, I just didn’t know how to bring it up."

Because she didn’t know how to bring it up, and also out of concern for her own safety, she had simply kept it a secret all this time.

The reason she chose to reveal it now was, for one, her intuition told her that her identity couldn’t be kept secret for much longer. It was better to confess voluntarily than to have her cover blown later.

After all, they were facing a true life-or-death situation this time, and something like a revealed identity could seriously damage the trust between teammates.

Also, she knew that the persona of SoySauceDrunkard had been practically deified. She hoped using this identity could give the others a bit more confidence.

After a brief silence, Hugh Finch was the first to speak. "You two shouldn’t blame Moira Lynch. With such a huge secret, what she did was only human. And, thinking about it now, she’s already pulled strings for us who knows how many times before."

As the actual beneficiaries, they didn’t really have the right to blame Moira Lynch.

"The boss and I don’t blame Moira. It’s just... this is too shocking. I can’t process it right now. Just give me some time to recover."

Kai York’s expression was strange. Moira Lynch was SoySauceDrunkard, and SoySauceDrunkard was Moira Lynch. Didn’t that mean all those messages he’d been sending to SoySauceDrunkard for so long had all gone to Moira Lynch?

Thinking about the content of those messages... although there was nothing indecent, if the recipient was Moira Lynch...

Kai York now wanted to find a hole in the ground and crawl into it without a second thought.

This was what they called social suicide. Today, he was truly experiencing it.

Beside him, Shane Rhodes nodded in agreement.

He hadn’t sent any messages to SoySauceDrunkard himself; he had mainly left that task to Kai York.

But the shock of Moira Lynch being SoySauceDrunkard was still immense for him, so he also needed time to process it.

For a moment, the living room fell into silence.

Perhaps feeling the atmosphere was a bit oppressive, Shane Rhodes asked, "Besides this, is there anything else you need to tell us?"

"Anything else?"

Moira Lynch thought for a moment. She had quite a few secrets. Rebirth was absolutely off-limits. She planned on taking that secret to her grave.

’The space?’

’Better not for now.’

Moira Lynch’s silence made the hearts of all three men, including Hugh Finch, leap into their throats.

’He had only asked casually, but there was actually more?’

After a moment, Moira Lynch spoke up. "Well, there is one thing, actually. You know how I went to save someone earlier? Well, after I saved them, the patient’s grandson proposed to me."

Shane Rhodes & Kai York & Hugh Finch: ...

"But I turned him down. He told me that if I agreed to be his fiancée, it would be just the two of us for life. What a joke. Even if he agrees to that, I don’t."

Shane Rhodes & Kai York & Hugh Finch: Huh... HUH!!??

Hearing the first sentence, the three of them breathed a sigh of relief. But when they heard the next part, their eyes widened instantly.

Wait, they really hadn’t expected Moira Lynch to have such ideas. Are high school students these days all this open-minded? Or had their own thinking just fallen behind the times?

They remembered just going to college, not becoming hermits in the mountains.

Also... could it be that the three of them were being kept around by Moira Lynch as her harem?

At this thought, the three of them swallowed nervously in unison. A trace of terror colored their gazes as they looked at Moira Lynch, and they couldn’t help but take a few steps back.

Seeing their expressions and sensing their emotional turmoil, Moira Lynch guessed they had gotten the wrong idea. She stated flatly, "You’re not my type."

The implication was that she wasn’t interested in them.
