Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 487 - 477: Delicious Cake
The damaged mechas and spaceships she had sold before were studied by scientists. Afterward, they dismantled all the ones that were completely beyond repair.
Not wanting to waste the dismantled spaceships and mechas, they repurposed all the parts for the construction of the new city.
As Moira Lynch walked along the street, she mostly saw the figures of children and teenagers.
Since there were no cars on the road, they didn’t have to worry about sudden traffic. Everyone was playing around freely.
Some of the children even had Flower Sprites flitting about beside them.
As she walked, Moira Lynch’s gaze suddenly landed on an open shop.
"It’s a cake shop!"
Moira Lynch went over for a closer look. The shop owner was a kind-faced, plump, middle-aged woman with a full, round face.
Inside the shop, several Flower Sprites were also busy at work.
Hearing the sound of the door being pushed open, a Flower Sprite immediately came forward to greet her.
The Flower Sprites recognized Moira Lynch. They were incredibly grateful to the person who had taken them in, provided them with a safe and comfortable home, and even brought them the Elf Tree.
Even the people she had sent to help were very friendly to them, which made the Flower Sprites feel a sense of respect they hadn’t experienced in a long time.
After seeing Moira Lynch, this Flower Sprite’s eyes instantly lit up. Just as she was about to call out, Moira Lynch stopped her.
"Shh."
Moira Lynch put a finger to her lips, signaling for her to be quiet.
The Flower Sprite clamped a hand tightly over her mouth, trying not to make a sound out of sheer excitement, but her eyes continued to sparkle as she looked at Moira Lynch.
After a long moment—so long that the busy proprietress called out, "Flora, what flavor of cake does the customer want?"
"Just a moment, the customer hasn’t chosen yet."
"Is there a menu? I’d like to take a look," Moira Lynch asked.
"Yes, yes." The Flower Sprite nodded like a chick pecking at rice and quickly produced an exquisitely bound menu.
Upon opening it, she saw page after page of exquisitely designed cakes that looked delicious at a glance.
Moira Lynch could even seem to smell the sweet aroma wafting from the pictures of the cakes.
’Wait, an aroma?’
She took another careful sniff. There really was a fragrance, and it was coming from the menu itself.
In the end, Moira Lynch chose a cake called "Blue Dream."
After receiving the order, the proprietress immediately got busy. The Flower Sprites all scurried over to help, while Moira Lynch quietly drew closer, her eyes fixed on the proprietress’s hands as she worked.
Ever since she was little, Moira Lynch had loved watching cakes being made. She found the process of a plain sponge transforming into a beautiful, delicious cake to be magical.
She had even worked part-time in a cake shop just for the experience.
Noticing Moira Lynch’s gaze, the proprietress generously made space for her, giving her a clearer view.
"You’re just like my daughter. She loves to watch me make cakes, too. Every time I start, she just stares without blinking," the proprietress said with a warm chuckle.
Moira Lynch smiled, unsure how to respond for a moment, as she hadn’t seen a little girl anywhere in the shop.
Then, Moira Lynch shrewdly noticed that there was no sadness in the proprietress’s tone. This suggested her daughter was fine. With this guess in mind, Moira Lynch asked, "Then why isn’t she here today? Did she go to school?"
That was right. Although the city was still under construction, the school had already opened.
"Yes, she’s at school. Thank goodness I chose to trust the base and sent her here. Otherwise, I don’t know if the two of us would have survived until now." The proprietress’s voice was filled with immense relief.
Moira Lynch seemed to sense something and asked, "Are you a player, too?"
She could feel a faint magnetic field from the proprietress, the kind only players possessed.
However, the field around the proprietress was very weak, almost gone.
Hearing this, the proprietress nodded. "Yes, I am a player. But I only passed two rounds of the game before I was eliminated in the third. My talent isn’t for combat; I couldn’t even manage a support role."
Hearing her say that and watching the cake rapidly take shape in her hands, Moira Lynch thought about the takeout food she had eaten before. A guess began to form in her mind, but she still asked, "What is your talent?"
"Pastry chef. I can turn any food into a delicious dessert, and it will taste amazing."
’Just as I thought.’ She had guessed correctly.
Ten minutes later, Moira Lynch walked out of the cake shop holding a beautiful, stunningly crafted blue cake.
Before she left, the proprietress gave her a thoughtful reminder to eat the cake quickly, or the texture wouldn’t be as good.
Heeding the proprietress’s advice, Moira Lynch headed straight back without stopping.
Half an hour later, she finally returned to the Elf Tree House.
At that moment, Shane Rhodes and the other two had also just gotten back to the Elf Tree House. Their faces were flushed from recent intense exercise, and their clothes were soaked with sweat.
Kai York was the first to notice the cake in Moira Lynch’s hand, his eyes instantly lighting up. "Did you get this from the ’Don’t Miss It’ shop? Is the date fresh?"
Moira Lynch: "..."
’What’s that supposed to mean? Why would you ask if the date is fresh?’
’Even though I used to sell food that was close to its expiration date, it was all non-perishable stuff. A fresh cream cake like this was obviously just made, okay?’
Moira Lynch said irritably, "It’s not fresh. It expired two weeks ago. For your own safety, you shouldn’t have any."
"No, wait! Moira, I was wrong! Please forgive my foolishness," Kai York pleaded with a grin. "But speaking of which, don’t tell me you actually bought this cake in the city."
Moira Lynch just "hmphed" without denying it.
After returning to her room, Moira Lynch cut the cake and gave everyone a slice.
The moment the cake entered their mouths, an indescribable deliciousness filled their senses. It melted on the tongue. In short, it could be described in one word—heavenly.
While eating the cake, the group started talking about the next round of the game.
"If things go as expected, the next round is definitely going to be a step up in difficulty."
Moira Lynch nodded. After all, the system had said so itself.
But they would cross that bridge when they came to it. When it came to the system, they were in a reactive position. To this day, they didn’t even know what the system truly was.
Moira Lynch had asked Patience about it once, but the result was that it nearly caused Patience to crash. She hadn’t asked again since.
