Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 481 - 471: The Power of the Orange
It turned out that Moira Lynch’s suspicions were correct.
Late in the night, Moira Lynch suddenly heard a rustling sound. Immediately after, she sensed something was missing from her person.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Moira Lynch shouted, "Thieves! Everyone, wake up and catch the thief!"
Since they were out in the wild, everyone was a light sleeper, needing to remain vigilant at all times. So, the moment Moira Lynch cried out, they all woke up.
"What happened?" The group looked toward Moira Lynch, who had made the noise, and asked.
"Someone’s stealing things! Who stole my orange?"
Moira Lynch felt at her waist, only to find that the Super delicious orange she always carried with her was gone.
Hearing Moira Lynch’s words, Eri was the first to speak. "Maybe you ate it yourself and forgot? Moira Lynch, everyone is exhausted right now. Could you please not shout and make a scene?"
She finished with a look of utter disapproval, as if Moira were a thoughtless child.
Hearing this, Moira Lynch narrowed her eyes at Eri.
After spending so much time together, she and the orange had long since formed a very deep bond.
If the thief had taken the orange and run far away, she might have been helpless. But now...
Eri felt Moira Lynch’s gaze on her and a flicker of guilt crossed her eyes, but she quickly composed herself and continued, "What? Was I wrong?"
Moira Lynch smiled. "You’re absolutely right. But I should warn the thief that my orange isn’t something just anyone can take. It’s very headstrong. Be careful, or you’ll end up with nothing, and the loss will far outweigh the gain."
"Hmph. Who are you trying to scare? It’s just an orange. What’s it going to do, eat someone?"
Kent scoffed, clearly not taking Moira Lynch’s words to heart.
Moira Lynch said nothing, but thought to herself, ’Eat someone? That’s not entirely out of the question.’
The Super delicious orange’s ability allowed it to devour anything. Swallowing a person whole certainly wouldn’t be difficult for it.
It was just a pity that whether in the game or in real life, she had never encountered a situation where she could use this item, so she still didn’t know the full extent of the orange’s ability.
She might not be certain of the details, but she was sure of one thing: the orange was powerful. Very powerful.
After the commotion, everyone had completely lost the will to sleep, so they simply got up and continued their journey.
Because of what had happened, the once-harmonious atmosphere in the vehicle had become somewhat awkward. Everyone chose to remain silent, either resting with their eyes closed or gazing at the passing scenery.
Not that there was much to see.
Just as everyone was absorbed in their own activities, a panicked and urgent scream suddenly rang out.
"AHHH!!!"
The group looked up, following the sound, and saw Eri staring at the bag at her waist with an ugly expression.
Ever since they first met, Eri had worn an exquisite bag at her waist. All her luggage was stored inside it, which showed that besides being a decorative accessory, the bag was also a Space Button.
But now, a hole had been torn in the bottom of this exquisite Space Button, looking as if something had gnawed through it from the inside.
On top of that, everything that had been stored inside had vanished without a trace.
"Who did this?!"
Although Eri was asking who had done it, her eyes were fixed on Moira Lynch, clearly believing she was the culprit.
However, Moira Lynch was positioned very far from Eri. Anyone with half a brain would know she was innocent.
Moira Lynch acted as if she hadn’t noticed Eri’s glare, shrugging as she said, "Maybe you broke it yourself. After all, looking at the angle of the damage, it was clearly torn from the inside out. Besides you, who else could reach into your bag?"
Hearing this, the others nodded. "That’s right."
"Lady Eri, perhaps you put something inside that you shouldn’t have? Your model of Space Button is a limited edition, which means it’s quite fragile due to the manufacturing process. Add to that the harsh environment here on Pyralia, and it’s understandable that it might break."
Eri shot the speaker an angry look. Right now, she really wanted to say, ’Understandable my ass!’
Even if the Space Button was fragile, it couldn’t be *this* fragile. Besides, who said no one else could reach into her bag?
Eri thought about the orange she had taken yesterday.
Originally, she had seen Moira Lynch put the Red Rock Crystal and Fire Burning Grass into the Space Button at her waist. As it happened, her second ability was called Black Hand, which allowed her to stealthily steal one item from a person without them noticing. So, she had decided to teach Moira Lynch a lesson.
She just hadn’t expected Moira Lynch to be so cautious. More surprisingly, she didn’t know when the Space Button that Moira had been wearing at her waist had been swapped for an orange.
Moira Lynch had a habit of storing all her belongings in her personal space before sleeping. After all, no place was safer than her own space.
The orange was the exception; she had left it out because she was afraid Snowy would eat it.
You have to understand, Snowy had been coveting that orange for a long, long time.
Even though she knew the truth, Eri couldn’t say anything. The moment she did, the fact that she had stolen something yesterday would be exposed.
The thing about an ability like Black Hand was that, while stealthy, once it was exposed, she would be ostracized by almost everyone. After all, nobody wants their belongings to suddenly disappear.
Furthermore, from that point on, if anyone lost something, she would be the first person they suspected. When that time came, she wouldn’t be able to defend herself even if she wasn’t the one who took it.
That’s why she had always carefully hidden this ability, saving it as her trump card.
For all these reasons, Eri felt incredibly frustrated and wronged.
She shot Moira Lynch a venomous glare, an expression that seemed to say, ’Just you wait.’
’I’ve been knocking around this business for so many years,’ she thought. ’You think I can’t handle some wet-behind-the-ears rookie?’
That’s right. Even though she had lost all her luggage, Eri wasn’t worried in the slightest. She believed that with her connections, she could definitely get back double what she had lost.
Eri gave Moira Lynch a provocative look, as if to say, ’This isn’t over!’
However, Moira Lynch paid her no mind. In her eyes, this was just a mission. Once it was over, they would all go their separate ways, and it was unlikely they would ever meet again.
Seeing Eri sit back down instead of exploding, seemingly preparing to settle the score later, Moira was not only shocked but also a little confused.
After all, Moira Lynch had no idea about the convoluted schemes running through Eri’s mind, so from her perspective, Eri’s behavior just seemed pathetic.
