Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 451 - 441: Sailing Carnival 43 (End)
After recovering some of her spiritual power, Moira Lynch submerged her consciousness into her space.
Upon seeing the full size of the Xisuo Vine, Moira Lynch was thankful her space was large enough.
If it hadn’t been, a Xisuo Vine that big would have likely smashed everything she kept inside.
A long time ago, Moira Lynch had once gone to see The Bastion. These Xisuo Vines gave her the same feeling she’d had back then.
"Something this big must have taken many years to grow."
Moira Lynch lamented to herself.
[The oldest of the Xisuo Vines is estimated to be one thousand five hundred years old.]
Hearing that number, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but gasp. No wonder it was so enormous.
"By the way, Patience, what about the Xisuo Vine’s Life Energy? They won’t just dry up and die if I leave them out here, will they?"
The game would be over soon, but if she was being precise, there were still several hours to go.
[The Xisuo Vine’s Life Energy is quite resilient, but it’s best not to let them stay out of water for long periods. Otherwise, it will affect the texture of the noodles.]
Hearing that the texture would be affected, Moira Lynch started to worry. ’What am I going to do?’
’These Xisuo Vines are so massive, even the mini-ocean in my space can’t fit them.’
Fortunately, Patience continued:
[As long as they are not out of the water for more than twenty-four hours, they will not be affected.]
Twenty-four hours. Moira Lynch did a quick calculation. ’That should be enough time.’
...
Meanwhile, in the cockpit, an assistant sounded perplexed.
"How did it just disappear?"
Just moments ago, he had seen a huge obstacle on the radar monitor not far away.
In a situation like that, a detour was unavoidable.
But in the blink of an eye, the obstacle had vanished. How bizarre.
"You probably saw it wrong," Hugh Finch said with a smile. He knew Moira Lynch had already taken care of the problem.
"Really? Could I just be too tired?"
The assistant took another uncertain look, only to see the radar monitor was completely clear.
’Did I really see it wrong?’
With that thought, the assistant glanced at Hugh Finch behind him and said, "You’ve learned a lot during this time, and we’re about to reach our destination. Why don’t you take over here for the rest of the trip? I’m going to get some rest."
Hugh Finch nodded. He would never pass up an opportunity for hands-on experience.
"Are you all right?"
While operating the radar, Hugh Finch didn’t forget to check on Moira Lynch.
After a long pause, Moira Lynch’s weary voice came through. "I’m fine. That thing was just unimaginably huge. My spiritual power is a little depleted."
Moira Lynch wasn’t the type to do a good deed and not take credit. She believed you had to let people know how difficult things were for you, so they would be more considerate next time.
Besides, Moira Lynch wasn’t exaggerating; her spiritual power really was depleted.
"That must have been tough on you," Hugh Finch said.
"Not at all. You can just do my chores for a month when we get back," Moira Lynch replied, seizing the opportunity.
Hugh Finch: "...Fine."
"Hee hee... Oh, right, can you guys speed things up over there? We have to finish this game within twenty-four hours." Moira Lynch’s voice suddenly turned serious.
"Twenty-four hours? Did something happen?"
Hearing Moira Lynch say that, Hugh Finch’s first instinct was that something was wrong.
"Not exactly. It’s just that the obstacle you had me deal with was actually a type of plant called Xisuo Vine, and you can eat it..."
"So you’re saying that after the Xisuo Vine is removed from seawater, its texture will get worse, and its survival rate will be affected?"
Moira Lynch nodded emphatically and hummed in agreement. Then, she brought up the situation on Caelus.
"Besides, the situation on Caelus isn’t looking good. It’s best we get back as soon as possible."
A few minutes later, everyone on the ship began to feel dizzy and nauseous.
While it wasn’t as extreme for Moira Lynch, she also felt a little unwell.
"Is it just me, or does it feel like the ship got even faster?"
A female player clutched the railing, dry-heaved a few times, then looked up and spoke, her face pale.
Hearing this, Moira Lynch thought to herself, ’You’re not imagining it. The ship definitely sped up.’
As mentioned before, the ship had been modified. Don’t be fooled by its dilapidated exterior, covered in patched-up repairs—that was just a facade.
In reality, the freighter’s internal structure was in no way inferior to any other vessel currently on the market.
The only difference was that the captain had cobbled it together from salvaged parts, like some kind of fusion monster.
It integrated the best parts from other ships, which made it seem more powerful, but in reality, it was also incredibly fragile.
[Based on projections, the probability of this ship being scrapped after reaching its destination is as high as eighty-nine point nine-eight percent.]
Hearing Patience’s data, Moira Lynch breathed a sigh of relief. ’As long as it doesn’t fall apart right now, we’re good.’
Moira Lynch never expected that because of that one sentence from her, they had managed to arrive a full half-day ahead of schedule.
By now, the sky was completely dark. At a pier, a freighter slowly pulled up to the dock.
As Moira Lynch and the others stepped off the freighter, they finally had the feeling of solid ground under their feet again.
Just then, a few people who seemed to glitter with golden light, even in the darkness of the night, walked over.
"We’re here to receive you. We didn’t expect you to arrive so quickly," one of them said.
The man sized up Moira Lynch’s group. "Is it just you? Where are the others?"
Moira Lynch pointed to the ship behind her. "The freighter was probably going too fast. The others couldn’t quite handle it, so they’re resting now."
Hearing this, the man just nodded, not pressing the matter further.
"We’ve already received the data you transmitted back to us. As the first to arrive for this mission, we thank you for your contributions. You’ve worked hard."
As soon as the man in front of them finished speaking, the system’s voice finally sounded in the ears of Moira Lynch and her companions.
Hearing that familiar, mechanical voice, Moira Lynch’s eyes instantly welled up with tears.
[Congratulations to player SoySauceDrunkard for completing the advanced test. In addition to completing the main mission, you have also completed a hidden mission: capturing two A-rank wanted criminals.
In the next game, you will be automatically teleported to a more advanced game. It is filled with danger, but also with opportunity. We hope the player will be prepared.
Rewards have been distributed.]
As the system’s voice faded, Moira Lynch’s vision went black. When she opened her eyes again, she was already back in her room.
Realizing this, she didn’t hesitate for a moment. She said to Patience, "Quick, send the Xisuo Vine to Cloudsea Planet, and those fish too. While you’re at it, send the Ghost Cat Owl over as well."
After all, the Ghost Cat Owl was a sea-dwelling creature. She was worried it wouldn’t acclimate to life inside her space.
