Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 440 - 430: Sailing Carnival 32
The captain never expected this. He had only decided on a whim to take stock of his assets. After all, most of the things in the container were living creatures, especially rare cargo like the Merchild.
If it died, his losses would be enormous.
He also planned to take a few photos of the goods for the buyers to get them to pay the deposit quickly.
But when he opened the container, the space that should have been packed with goods was now completely empty.
The contents had vanished at some unknown time. Even their presence was gone, which meant they hadn’t disappeared recently.
The captain couldn’t help but connect this to the disappearance of his two first mates.
He had originally thought the two first mates were murdered, but now, it seemed that wasn’t the case.
The thing was, while he didn’t know their true identities, he had guessed they were poachers.
That was why he had agreed to let them rent his cargo ship and accompany the voyage as first mates, but with a condition.
The condition was that he would get thirty percent of the cargo.
Now, first the two first mates had gone missing, then their personal luggage, and now the contents of the container.
He had thought they were just missing, but with all these things disappearing, he was forced to consider other possibilities—for example, that he’d been played.
As for the adventurers on board, although the captain had their rooms searched, he didn’t actually suspect them.
The reason was simple. He didn’t think anyone on the ship had the ability to move so much cargo—including two combat-proficient adults—without anyone noticing.
’So, it definitely wasn’t them.’
After a brief commotion, the cargo ship returned to its usual calm.
After all, he had already ordered a top-to-bottom search of the ship long ago when looking for the missing first mates.
They found nothing then, and they found nothing this time either.
Some clueless players even went up to ask what was happening, trying to curry favor with the captain and see if they could get any benefits out of him.
Naturally, the result was getting a furious scolding from the captain.
For the next while, the entire ship was dead silent because of the captain’s foul mood.
It felt like being in school when the teacher walks in, and you notice the wrong expression on her face and the unfriendly look in her eyes. The whole class instantly falls into an eerie silence, with no one wanting to be the one to stick their neck out.
The bow of the ship had been severely damaged by the Gigas Crab, so the players weren’t just sitting around idle. They were busy hammering away, repairing the broken bow.
At first, they had no experience. Their repairs were always substandard and would break again before long. Gradually, over time, they finally mastered the technique.
One day, as the cargo ship was sailing along normally, a voice suddenly blared from the ship’s speakers.
[Attention! Attention! We are about to enter The Fog Zone. Please do not run around, to avoid any stampedes. We will pass through The Fog Zone as quickly as possible.]
Hearing this, Moira Lynch, who was on deck, looked ahead. Not far in front of the ship was a vast expanse of white fog.
Moira Lynch had planned to use her spiritual power to scout the situation inside the fog, but she was surprised to find that her spiritual power was completely ineffective within it.
She was a little stunned.
[Report! It is presumed that something within the fog is capable of blocking spiritual power.]
After hearing what Patience said, Moira Lynch realized this was no ordinary fog.
As the cargo ship officially entered The Fog Zone, everyone realized just how dense the fog was. It was so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. All they could see was a wall of white; everything else was invisible.
In such conditions, if any dangers were lurking in the fog, it would be impossible to spot them with the naked eye.
However, just because others couldn’t see didn’t mean Moira Lynch couldn’t.
Even without her spiritual power, she still had her eyes.
Her beauty contact lenses not only granted her night vision, but they also allowed her to see more clearly than others in the fog. It wasn’t as good as her night vision, but seeing her immediate surroundings was no problem.
Because of this, Moira Lynch wasn’t as tense. She even had time to observe the surface of the sea around her. Just then, a patch of blue on the water caught her attention.
’What is that?’
Moira Lynch wondered as she looked at the flowers blooming on the sea’s surface.
The petals of these flowers were a deep blue, yet they emitted a faint, ethereal blue glow. They looked beautiful as they swayed with the gentle rocking of the ship.
[Ghost Flower: A highly venomous flower that blooms on the surface of the sea. Their appearance is often accompanied by dense fog. Scientists have yet to discover their origin or how they propagate their pollen.]
[Although the Ghost Flower is highly toxic, it only affects land-based creatures. If a fish consumes a Ghost Flower, it will not die immediately. The toxins will seep into its body, turning the fish into a carrier for the poison until it is caught and eaten.]
[One point of caution: once a fish eats a Ghost Flower, it becomes addicted to it and will no longer eat any other food.]
[Therefore, fish that have eaten a Ghost Flower will typically only be found in the vicinity of the flowers.]
After listening to Patience’s explanation, Moira Lynch looked out at the sea, but unfortunately, the fog was simply too thick for her to see anything.
Just then, a powerful force suddenly struck her from behind.
Moira Lynch’s body pitched forward uncontrollably.
As she fell, in that critical moment, Moira Lynch was driven by a single thought: ’If I’m going to die, I deserve to know why!’ She quickly twisted around to look behind her.
She had to see who had ambushed her.
And then she saw a crazed face.
When she recognized the face, Moira Lynch had a feeling of, ’I should have known.’
Because it was none other than MoonlitTears.
Seeing the hatred in her eyes, so intense it was almost tangible, Moira Lynch was puzzled. ’I don’t think I did anything to her, did I? Why does she hate me so much?’
’Is it just because I didn’t become her stepping stone like she wanted?’
But regardless of the reason, Moira Lynch was not one to take a loss lying down.
In a Blink, a hook appeared in her hand.
The hook rapidly extended and, almost in a Blink, snagged MoonlitTears by the neck, pulling her down as well.
"AHHH!!!"
With a scream, MoonlitTears plunged down as well, sending up a great splash as she hit the water.
Moira Lynch, however, pulled a cloud-shaped Flying Device from her storage space a second before she hit the water.
Sitting on the Flying Device and watching MoonlitTears struggle in the water, she felt no pity.
