Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 429 - 419: Sailing Carnival 21
Laina had just finished a delicious lunch and was preparing to go back to her room to rest.
According to their predictions before setting out, they would pass through Stonefish territory tonight, and the twenty-meter-long giant Stonefish was very likely to appear.
In addition to this information, Laina had also received a reliable tip from another source.
The twenty-meter giant Stonefish was accompanied by several other Stonefish, each over ten meters long.
The exact number was unknown, but it was speculated that these were females—the male’s mates.
Among Stonefish, larger size meant greater popularity, regardless of whether they were male or female.
In short, the strongest one could build a harem.
And it just so happened to be the Stonefish’s breeding season.
Stonefish roe was known as the Ocean Pearl, which just goes to show how precious it was.
Just as she lay on her soft, large bed, blissfully dreaming of the future, her expression suddenly changed.
Her once-rosy face turned pale with pain.
Moira Lynch was trying to stimulate her brain with spiritual power, hoping to knock her out directly.
As for whether she was being too rough and might cause some lasting damage, that wasn’t something she was worried about.
However, she had underestimated Laina Carlton.
Although the other woman was under attack, she didn’t just pass out as Moira had expected.
It seemed she had eaten something that gave her resistance to spiritual power, just like how Moira herself ate Ice Chestnuts.
’Well, this complicates things.’
Moira Lynch lay on her stomach on the bed, propping her chin on her hands.
Seeing that she couldn’t knock her out, Moira Lynch resorted to her old tricks. She disrupted the woman’s equilibrium, making it impossible for her to even stand. ’Let’s see her try to kick anyone now.’
Not only that, but she also cut off Laina’s optic and auditory nerves.
Her body was unstable, she’d lost her sense of balance, sight, and hearing, and her mind was in agony, feeling like it was about to explode.
Laina was now clutching her head tightly, letting out piercing screams that she herself couldn’t even hear.
The world before her was pure darkness, plunging her into endless terror.
Despite the attack, Laina didn’t lose her senses. She immediately deduced that her assailant was an expert in spiritual power.
’To be able to directly sever the nerves in the brain... that’s not something an ordinary person can do. It would require extensive medical knowledge.’
Laina racked her brain, trying to recall if there was anyone like that on the ship, but came up with nothing.
Moira Lynch’s medical knowledge was only skin-deep, let alone extensive.
However, while she didn’t have extensive medical knowledge, she believed in making her own miracles with brute force.
She spent a long time trying to identify her target but found no one, and the pain in her head grew more and more intense, to the point where she lost the ability to think and even wanted to smash her head against something to end it.
At that moment, Laina finally understood how Graham had disappeared.
’The attacker probably targeted Graham first, then noticed me after some observation.’
Meanwhile, Moira Lynch once again increased her output. Laina’s commotion had already attracted a lot of attention, and people were heading that way.
Working on the principle of "leave them barely breathing," a massive surge of spiritual power flooded into Laina’s brain.
"AHHHH!!!!"
With one last, bloodcurdling scream, Laina finally passed out completely.
Moira Lynch used the restraining device she had prepared earlier to tie her up securely. Still not feeling assured, she forced a bottle of Weakness Potion down her throat before pulling her into her storage space.
Laina’s luggage was taken along as well.
This woman had just as much stuff as Graham.
Once everything had settled, Moira Lynch finally let out a sigh of relief, rolled over, and lay down comfortably on her own small bed.
Now everything was ready; all she needed was the right opportunity.
Just as she was about to check on Laina’s condition again, she was instantly stunned by the scene before her.
’Where is she? Where did that whole person go?’
As Moira Lynch stood there in shock, she suddenly noticed that while Laina’s figure was gone, a strange creature had appeared on the ground.
’How should I describe this creature...’
Its head was like a donkey’s, and so was its body, but it had four long legs—really long legs—and a slender neck.
’Did a wild donkey have an affair, or did a giraffe cheat on its partner?’
Then she saw the familiar restraining device on it and confirmed it: this unidentified creature was Laina.
’The file said Laina’s race was Swift Leopard, didn’t it?’
’Could this be a Swift Leopard?’
’No way.’
When in doubt, ask Patience.
Soon enough, Patience provided an answer.
The creature before her was indeed not a Swift Leopard, but the child of two different races who had fallen in love.
After a scan from Patience, Moira Lynch was shocked. This was an eight-race hybrid.
She had only read about the Eight-Nation Alliance in history books and seen eight-nationality hybrids online. An eight-race hybrid was a first for her, and quite a novelty.
’If this were on Caelus, it would shock the entire biological world.’
According to Patience’s scan, Laina did indeed have Swift Leopard blood, but it was very rare—only about five percent.
After confirming there were no other surprises, Moira Lynch’s consciousness withdrew from the space. She still needed to figure out how to explain Laina’s identity to The Federal Government.
’What if they don’t acknowledge her? Wouldn’t I be stuck with her?’
Just then, a commotion erupted outside her door, followed by a series of sharp knocks. BANG BANG BANG.
The person’s actions were rushed and rude. Seeing that the person inside wasn’t opening the door, they bellowed, "The captain has an announcement! Everyone assemble on the deck now!"
Moira Lynch got up and unhurriedly went to open the door.
After opening the door, she met the person’s gaze, yawned, rubbed her eyes, and frowned. "Does it have to be right now? It’s so late. Can’t it wait until morning?"
The person at the door looked at Moira Lynch with a scrutinizing gaze. After a moment, they looked away and said, "This is extremely urgent. The captain requires everyone to be present. Sailing the seas is fraught with danger. We can wait until tomorrow, but danger won’t."
Perhaps seeing Moira Lynch’s exhausted expression, the person outside offered an explanation.
Moira Lynch nodded in understanding and followed the others outside.
After several rounds of the game, she had long developed the habit of sleeping fully clothed. It was tiring, but it gave her a greater sense of security.
Even if her clothes got dirty, she would take them off and change into a fresh set before resting.
Besides, it saved her the time it took to get dressed. She could be up and out in an instant, just like now.
As she passed by other players’ rooms, she saw some of the male players opening their doors wearing nothing but boxers.
Of course, most people were still dressed.
On the way, she ran into Hugh Finch. He gave her a look that asked, ’What did you do now?’
Moira Lynch just gave him an innocent look in return.
